Rivendell
Westernmost of the Elven strongholds, and occupied by the High Elves under Elrond's rule, Rivendell is noted for its hospitality to travelers.
No longer is it the stronghold that it once was, though, for the time of the Elves is fading by the time the Lord of the Rings Trilogy starts. Few
remain on the shores of Middle Earth, and they can no
longer field armies or prvide military support. Rather they maintain havens, such as
Rivendell and Lothlorien, within which evil cannot long endure.
