Why?

Many new visitors to the Nature Area have asked, why aren't you open more often? They wish to have more access to this beautiful place.

The answer is always the same. As stewards of the Nature Area, we are required to monitor the flow of visitors. The gate needs to be locked for security reason. The Federal government owns this property and the Grosse Ile airport is adjacent. Without a reliable source of steady volunteers at this time, GINLC is not able to provide more open hours. We regret this inconvenience. Tours are always available for groups by appointment.
