The formerly knownSilver Lake Archaeological Site is 2.86 acres and is believed to have been part of a 30-acre Kumeyaay village that prospered along Poway Creek approximately 300 years ago.
In 1987 the City of Poway purchased the Silver Lake site to preserve archaeological features located on the knoll.
The City of Poway and the San Pasqual Band of Kumeyaay Indians are working collaboratively to preserve the Silver Lake site.

acquisitions, opens great opportunities for revitalizing
consciousness of history and culture, as well as spreading
this knowledge to the broader San Diego County community."

The Site will be designated the KUMEYAAY-IPAI INTERPRETIVE CENTER
Through community involvement several improvements to the site have been made to restore the area to resemble a Kumeyaay village.
Improvements have included:
Removal of non-native plants, trash, and graffiti
Planting of 12 oak trees by the Poway High School Boys’ Lacrosse team
Placement of bark by the Poway High School Girl’s Lacrosse team
Construction of trails by Boy Scout Troops and through Eagle Scout projects
Construction of an 18 x 18 foot replica Kumeyaay house (e wa’a), seen above
