Based on the direct-to-video film that was spawned from the TV-series, this GBC title is one of the three ''Beyond'' games released by Ubi Soft. This Game Boy Color game is not great, but this ''small'' version is certainly a lot better than the two ''big'' versions. G RAPHICS: There are some Game Boy color games that push the limit of 8-bit gaming, but Batman Beyond is certainly not one of them. It looks like an old black & white game with colour. The sprites are small and blocky, the backgrounds average, the choice of colour a bit poor. They are much inferior compared to the game's ''sister'' title, Ubi Soft's ''Batman: Chaos in Gotham'' for Game Boy Colour. What I liked a bit are the many cut-scenes between the levels and the graphics of the third level, Arkham Asylum. |

S OUND: Poor. The music of the film was exciting, but be prepared to hear some ''cool'' bleep-bleeps from this game. Better turn off the volume (to save some battery) if you really decide to play the game.G AMEPLAY: Do you remember the three Double Dragon games for the black & white Game Boy? The game plays a lot like them. Batman runs, jumps and uses his fists to defeat his enemies. There are also some special weapons. I haven't seen the movie to know what exactly is about, but Joker (obviously) returns and the new Batman (not Bruce but Terry) has to stop him through 4 different levels divided in several ''rooms'' each. The game is a bit challenging, but there is a password system.O VERALL: The game is very mediocre and has not much to offer. It is simply a replica of GB Double Dragon with coloured graphics and the ''new'' Batman (or Batfake as the Joker calls him) as the main sprite. If you have a GBC and you want to play a Batman game prefer Batman: Chaos in Gotham or even the late Batman: The Animated Series (for B&W) by Konami. |
