Speed Comparison Graph

Click Here to see a demonstration of the speed difference between a 56K dial-up connection vs a Cable High Speed Internet connection.

If you have ever experienced the speed of a dial-up connection to the Internet, you probably think that WWW stands for "World Wide Wait". With Valley Cable Vision high-speed Internet you will quickly learn why it is actually called the World Wide Web as you will see that the world of information will immediately be at your fingertips.

Cable Internet access vastly outperforms most other common means of connecting to the Internet and will enable you to experience the best of what the web has to offer at the speeds it is designed to utilize.

Modem speeds are measured in kilobits per second (Kbps). To convert to kilobytes per second (KB/sec.), divide by eight - note the spelling "bits" vs "bytes". In the table below, each modem speed is shown along with the theoretical time required to download a 1 MB file, assuming the full transfer speed was achieved. Please keep in mind that these speeds are the theoretical possible speeds. Regardless of your Internet Service Provider, overhead and other natural inefficiencies of the Internet (such as web site server lag and general Internet congestion) often reduce actual performance by 5 percent to 20 percent for all users. What Web browsers are supported by the CableRocket High Speed Internet service?

Cable Network:

Can I watch TV and use the Internet at the same time?
Yes. You can surf the Web, watch TV and talk on the phone, all at the same time.

If I don't subscribe to cable, can I still get high speed Internet services?
Yes. Contact our customer service department for details.

Will Valley Cable Vision install new cable in my neighbourhood to provide the high speed Internet services?
No. high speed Internet services use existing cable lines.

I want high speed Internet and I already have a cable outlet. Is it still necessary to install another line?
Yes. You'll still need a second cable outlet. The cable connection to a cable modem is a dedicated outlet wired from the box outside your house to the modem. The outlet has been carefully tested by the cable installer for any possible problems that would interfere with your Valley Cable Vision service but would never affect your normal television reception.

How does the cable modem connect to my computer?
The cable modem is an external device that connects to your computer's 10-base T Ethernet port.

How can I get cable from the TV in my living room to the PC in my bedroom?
Since both data and television signals travel on the same physical cable, you require a cable splitter to provide multiple connections. To avoid the potential of introducing noise to the system, a cable technician will install the splitter and cable outlet in the second location. If you've already installed splitters or cabling, a technician will perform quality assurance tests to make sure it's operational.

Network Architecture:

Will speed suffer as the Valley Cable Vision membership increases?
No. The Valley Cable Vision Network is shared, however, since it is scalable, we add extra capacity as more members join.
