Old Testament Prophecies & Foreshadowings Regarding “One to Come”

Old Testament References Prophecy <verses of interest regarding fulfillment>
Gen 3:15 A descendent of Eve would “crush” the serpant’s (Satan’s) head

Gen 12:3,
Gen 22:18 All the nations of the earth would be blessed through Abraham's descendant. <Matt 1:1, I Cor 15:22, Rom 10:13>

Gen 49:8-12 Judah will be the ruling one of Jacob (Israel’s) sons.  The role of leadership role will eventually pass to the one “to whom it belongs”.   <Matt 1:3-16>

Isaiah 53 Speaks of this person being pierced for our sins (transgressions) (vs. 5) <John 19:18,34>, of this person’s wounds bringing about our healing (vs. 5) <Matt 27:26>, speaks of person being silent as he goes to be killed/slaughtered (vs.7) <Matt 27:12-14>, speaks of person being assigned a grave with the wicked but with the rich when he died (vs. 9) <Matt 27:57-60>, speaks of person seeing his offspring and having his days prolonged (vs. 10) after his death (vs. 9) <Luke 24:4?6>, speaks of person justifying many by bearing their iniquities <Rom 3:23-24>, speaks of person being numbered with the transgressors (vs. 12) <Mark 15:27>, and speaks of the person making intercession for the transgressors (vs. 12) <Luke 23:34>.

Isaiah 11:1,2 A descendant (Branch) of Jesse (David's father) would have the Spirit of the Lord rest on Him.  <John 1:32-34>

Jer 23:5,6 A righteous descendant (Branch) of David would come being wise and just. <Matt 1:1, John 18:36>

Micah 5:2 A ruler would come from Bethlehem.  One who had existed in the past.  <Luke 2:4-7; John 8:58>

Isaiah 7:14 A virgin will give birth to a son who will be called Emmanuel which means God with us <Matt 1:18-25>

Isaiah 9:1-7 The region of the Jewish tribes Zebulun & Naphtali, the region of Galilee, will be honored, a light will be seen there.  A child will be born that will fulfill this prophecy. <Matt 2:19-23>

Isaiah 40:3 Someone would come to prepare people for the Lord's coming.  <John 1:23; Matt 3:1,2>

Isaiah 35:4-6 God will come. The blind, deaf, lame and dumb will be healed.  <Matt 9:35; John 5:5-9>

Zech 9:9 A king would come riding on a young donkey (a colt).  He would be just and would offer salvation. <Luke 19:28-35>

Zech 11:13 The Lord told Zecheriah to throw his thirty pieces of silver to the potter.  He threw them into the house of the Lord to the potter.  <Math 26:14-15; Matt 27:3?7>

Psalm 22 The speaker says "My God, my God, why have you forsaken Me?" (vs. 1) <Matt 27:46>, the speaker notes that the people around him are saying, "He trusts in the Lord; let the Lord save him" (vs. 8) <Matt 27:43>, the speaker says, "I am poured out like water, all my bones are out of joint" (vs. 14) <John 19:34>, the speaker says, "My strength is dried up and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth" (vs 15) <John 19:28>, the speaker notes that his hands and feet have been pierced (vs. 16) <John 19:18; 20:25-27> and the speaker says, "They divide my garmets among them and cast lots for my clothing" (vs 18) <John 19:23-24>.

Daniel 9:25-26 Says that from the command to rebuild Jerusalem (this occurred ~444 B.C)  to the time that the Anointed One (Messiah) is killed (cut off) will be 7 plus 62 "sevens". Adding 69x7 360 day years to 444 B.C. comes out to 33 A.D.

Zecheriah 12:10 The people of Israel will one day mourn for the one they have pierced.  <John 19:34>

Isaiah 60:3 The nations or the Gentiles will come to Israel’s light <Acts 13:47,48> The existence of us, as non-Jewish believers, is fulfillment of this prophecy

Psalm 41:9; Psalm 55:12-14 Betrayed by a close friend <Matt 10:4>
