First Stage

To Convert The AVI File To Mpeg.

1.        This is by far the most complicated and time-consuming process. Also your computer will find it hard work too so it’s best not to do anything else while TMPGEnc is running and be prepared this process can take up to 8 hours to complete, so if you can it’s best to leave it running overnight.

2.      Open TMPGEnc, cancel the project wizard that pops up and go to file new project.

3.      In the Video source box click browse and find the d2v file e.g. D:\Scooby Doo\scoobyd2v (see diagram below)

4.      Next go to load point to where you installed TMPGEnc (e.g. DVD copying\TMPGEnc) Click on TMPGEnc folder and then Template and select Video CD (pal). Mcf (see diagram below).

5.      Now click on settings and click on the advanced tab and set the source aspect ratio to 16:9 625 line (PAL) then click the audio tab and check the sampling frequency is on 44100Hz and the bitrate is on 224 kbits/s (see diagram 2 below).

6.     In the audio source box click browse and find the audio file for the movie you have just copied (e.g. D:\Scooby Doo\scooby AC3 T01 3_2ch 384Kbps 48KHz.wav).

7.       Next click on Option and go to environmental setting click on the external tool tab check the layer 2 box (see diagram 3) and click browse find where you installed toolame (e.g. DVD copying\Toolame) and click open.

8.      Click start and leave to run the first stage all you will see is in the bottom left corner is a message saying creating temporal wave file ??% complete. Next the toolame box will open and will encode the audio. Finally the Mpeg conversion will begin as I’ve already explain these processes can take 4-8 hours.

Second stage

To Split The File Ready For The Next Process.

1.        After restarting your PC open TMPGEnc again and cancel the project wizard that pops up.

2.      Click on file and go to MPEG tools select the Simple De-multiplex tab.

3.      In the input box click browse and find the Mpeg you have just created (e.g. D:\scooby.mpg). The video output should be filled automatically with the m1v file (e.g. D:\scooby.m1v) likewise the audio output box should be filled with the mp2 file (e.g. D:\scooby.mp2) (see diagram).

4.      Leave the process to complete this process takes about 10-15 minutes.

5.      Don’t worry that Video and Audio output size doesn’t match, if you are worried then open the files and play them in media player and check that the playing times are the same.

When you download the software you need it is advisable to make a new folder (e.g. DVD copying) and save each program in its own named folder (e.g. C:\DVD copying\Smartripper etc.) for ease of use in the later stages of the processes.
