A P O C A L Y P S E
Cringe Factor: 2
Starring: Leigh Lewis (Helen Hannah), Richard Nestor (Bronson Pearl), Sam Bornstein
(Franco Macalousso), David Roddis (Len Parker)
Director: Peter Gerretsen
Synopsis: WNN newsanchors Helen Hannah (Lewis) and Bronson Pearl (Nestor) must decide what
to think when millions around the globe mysteriously vanish and European Union president
Franco Macalousso (Bornstein) starts acting more like the Messiah than mere man.
I don't know what this is, but it's more interesting than the movie!
Review: Apocalypse starts out okay, but as soon as the opening credits end, its
low budgetness starts screaming at you almost as loud as its badness does. The supporing cast
can't act, making the movie difficult enough to watch, but since the whole thing was shot with
a cheap camera, it looks like one long newscast, even when there isn't a long, stock
footage montage on the screen. The movie is full of unintentionally funny moments, like when
people suddenly vanish, leaving behind neatly folded stacks of laundry. Macalousso (Bornstein)
provides some laughs, partly because he's short and funny-looking, but mostly because he
talks like a Bible prophet and acts stoned. And who could forget the Antichrist's right hand
man, Len Parker (Roddis)? Not only does he do the stereotypical, over-the-top villian thing,
but he does it with a Canadian accent. Not exactly the sound of ultimate evil. But hey, when
Jack Van Impe is the hero, it can't be all bad, right?
Favorite Scene: Bronson Pearl, with just a shovel, digs up his father's
grave and opens the casket, only to find...a stack of neatly folded clothing!
