G O N E (2002)

Cringe Factor: 3

Starring: Dirk Been (Dean), Joel Klug (Bill), Bianca Lapus (Helen), Tim Chey (Jay)

Director: Tim Chey

Synopsis: High-powered laywers Jay, Dean and Bill are sent to Manila to defend a corporate client, but after a run-in with a street man prophesying the end of the world, the disappearance of millions across the globe and all of the water turning to blood, they team up with a local woman, Helen and try to get out of the country. Along the way, they spend time speculating on Biblical truths and the existence of God. There is a twist ending. I guess.

Church of the street crazies.

Review: "Gone" is a reasonably good-looking film with high production values, including crane shots, and was filmed on location in the Philippines.

However, "Gone" is a perfect example of why the Cringe Factor was created. This movie is probably one of the worst the industry has ever produced. Most of the dialogue is completely unnecessary, the acting is just bad and the combination of the two leave the story so convoluted that I wonder if Tim Chey did any directing at all. These guys don't act like lawyers at all, and the whole thing is an incoherent mess.

Bad as it is, there is still some unexpected humor, as when after all the water has turned to blood, Jay buys a bottle off some street hoods. When he finds out it came from a toilet, he spews it out. No more pure, refreshing Dasani for our hapless lawyer!
