Latest Keep Boredom At Bay Activity: List of people I like. Fictional or otherwise.
Plus mostly melancholy song lyrics of the moment. Depressed.
July Boredom Interests: Dragonball Z's Vegeta and Tomoyasu Hotei, the Japanese guitarist/actor/whatnot. I wish I had Samurai Fiction on tape, one of my favourite movies and not least because of Hotei's music, totally loved it and want to hear more. One of my old IRC friends, Sistance, downloaded some of his music from the Net to burn me a taster-cd but then he never got around to sending it to me so I still haven't heard anything else really, just very interested. If I ever got a chance to make an English cover version of that Save Me at the end of SF, I'd jump at it. No idea what the lyrics actually say but after I saw the film I wrote feeling-based English lyrics for it practically straight away and could see what I wanted in a video for it, under ideal situations, made a major impression on me. The best guitarist I ever heard.
And we return to our regularly scheduled program...
But on to actual Fact One. I don't like ice hockey. I grew up with hockey, ski-jumping, cross-country skiing and athletics shoved down my throat from all sides living in Finland, plus all the dorks (well, the so called elite to most other ppl, that is) in my school seemed to play hockey so it kinda turned me off the sport. It's the same as football in England, can't get away from it so you can't stand it after a while. Not that I mind football (or soccer to you English-challenged Americans ;) ) but then I didn't grow up with it the same way either. Quite a fan of Newcastle United for one, although that's probably more to do with Alan Shearer than serious fandom...
Another slightly amusing fact is that in a survey of who's the proudest of their country the Top 3 nations were Australia, Canada and Finland. The sad buggers who seem to praise their countries to everybody else that is. I'm sure everybody's met Aussies and Canucks who do it (London's full of them for one) and I bet the only reason you've avoided Finns doing it is because there are only 5 million of us in the first place. I'm more or less embarrassed by the whole thing but also can't help but point out that Finland just topped the Least Corrupt Country in the World charts. ;) I'd also like to point out that I moved out of Finland and that I don't own a mobile/cell phone, don't drink coffee, don't like Formula 1 and don't watch ice-hockey on TV, all very Finnish activities apparently. I had a bigger culture shock going back there than anything I had when I came to London.
But since it seems I'm influenced by the KD-info, alright then. I'm a huge sucker for comedians as I think I mentioned elsewhere already. Hockey no, humour yes. So much so I'd probably shag my fave comedian, Eddie Izzard, without much hesitation if given the chance. The man is hilarious and sexy, a good combo. The following test results may be taken as either a good or a bad omen, according to taste. I DID originally get KidIzzard (shown on the pointless test page) as my Eddie but that changed very fast. Only pity is he's only 5'7, though I suppose his 4 inch stiletto heels remedy that quite nicely... *Tum te tums off, grinning widely*
Slut Izzard: You'll crawl into any duvet any time of the day. You get to shag everyone, and wear all their clothes. You're concerned with appearances, whether anyone will shag you, or whether you'll shag anyone else. Rejoice!! For you are a fashion queen.
To top it off and go totally over the top, here's three quotes from his stand-up routines, from The soon to be Infamous Eddie Pick-up Page, namely a bit of French, the quick aside and how to accept a yes subtly.
A bit of French
A cup of coffee?
"Let us go and shag in my treehouse"
No one's obviously noticed my test mania yet, right? Anything to timewaste in a fun way? Pretty boring for the most part though, me, as far as I'm concerned. *shrugs*
I personally haven't reached a higher level than the Queen of Lame Jokes which may be related to my iconoclastic tendencies, too. I may adore KD's characters but on some level I'm knocking them down with parodies or something else. The more you like something the more fun you can make of it as far as I'm concerned. Though the tendency is more of a bother when you're trying to be seriously heartbroken and your sense of humour kicks you around mercilessly because of it. Ouch. Ow. Yeeps.
I've adored fictional villains for as long as I can remember, by the way. My ultimate favourite was always Cobra Commander from the cartoon/comic G.I.Joe. Picture nicked from http://user.netomia.com/Legacy/cobracommander.html. Couldn't resist, had to have it. I don't care if he was camp (as in the cartoon) or got turned into a snake (to quote Monty Python's Holy Grail: "She turned me into a newt! -- ...I got better.") in the movie (I like snakes. I could always have him around as a pet), I still get shivers down my back when I hear that hissing raspy voice, combined to the uniform and Cobra logo. *longing nostalgic sigh* It's probably very easy to see why I'd like Zipacna/Goa'ulds if you know anything at all about the Commander. CC was constantly peeved about anything and everything, same as the other snakes. Totally my childhood idol. Silly? Of course it's silly, whoever said anything I did wasn't silly?
Cobra Commander: "Clearly the world is not taking me seriously..."Anyway. To get back on track....
Let's change colour for a while. Not that I particularly like or dislike green, just livens it up. Anyway. Currently living in England, the promised land of car insurance and mortgage ads on TV. I still don't know why marketers think you'd spend what you've saved on your insurance fighting to pay for your friends' coffee, specifically, like in the Currently Most Inane Ad Out There ("Diamond-Created for women". Avoid like the plague ;) ), but apparently that's the done thing this season.
I LOVE London for its theatres though I have to be selective in what I go see because of limited funds. It mostly gravitates toward going to see fave actors if I can. In 2002 I recall seeing Eddie Izzard (+Victoria Hamilton, Prunella Scales) in A Day In The Death of Joe Egg, Alan Rickman (+Lindsay Duncan, Adam Godley) in Private Lives, David Warner and Philip Glenister in A Feast of Snails, Ben Cross and Sanjeev Bhaskar in Art, Kyle MacLachlan and Woody Harrelson in On An Average Day and other than that, I've managed to miss Philip Quast twice. First in South Pacific (and he got the Laurence Olivier Award for that, too. Dammit) and on my birthday week in the sold out Diva-sessions at the Donmar. Dammit #2. I've got tickets to see Sean Bean, Julian Glover and Samantha Bond in Macbeth 28th November, something I'm more than thrilled about. I love the play and can practically see how Bean might do it already, half afraid of front row-witnessing the intensity. In other words, I love it already. Miscellanious/theatre related photos of the gang 2003: Bean was inadequate as Macbeth, by the way. Okay enough but he lacked a lot of the necessary depth, seemed to go through it mostly on one gear alone when I saw it. Not complaining as such, I just expected a lot more, knowing he can do emotional depth as well (Boromir's anguish in Lord of the Rings as a good example if nothing else). He looked very sexy, not saying that, drool-worthy if you're into him at all, but not perfect otherwise. Their Macduff was brilliant though, Mark Bazeley if I recall. And Julian Glover is naturally always very good in whatever he does, as the king or the porter, who got big laughs. |
So yes, I love it. I love movies, too, front row girl in both if possible. Shut the world outside. I would loved to have seen some of Durand's stagework, whether in the theatre, rapping or doing stand-up. Though all of a sudden I'm not at all sure he ever did any stand-up, if I've read anything about that or if I'm just imagining it. Need to check, again. Just because he was one of Canada's funniest new comedians in '94 doesn't mean it was for stand-up. *frowns* My memory's a sieve. (Yes, stand-up's listed on one of the Dark Angel sites, tho I forget which one right now...)
I'm basically a total actor fanatic in any case. Some people go nuts about rock or pop stars whereas I can drone on endlessly about actors and what they do.
I have absolutely no idea what I want to be when I (hopefully don't) grow up (or any bigger for that matter). Lately the option of comics writer has seemed the most feasible but I've got some time to go before I'll be good enough in that. What I'd be absolutely perfect for with my Analyst/INTP/Evokateur personality though is continuity person for some SF series. I remember obscure details naturally and love keeping up with things from my fave shows. I CANNOT believe somebody actually gets paid to do something like that. Gahd. |
Enough irrelevance? Nobody told you to read all this, I shoo'd you back to Durand ages ago. Anyway. If someone can tell me why I get an urge to call Durand a shortie when I've got my heels on (~6'1, still shorter than him so technically I shouldn't?) do let me know, by the way. *grins* Realized a while ago that 6'6" isn't quite as tall as could be (Why can't you people learn to use the more accurate metric system, anyway?). But, a few more things and then I'm done. *shrugs*
As to weird pics of me...
Fuchsia and blonde hair... The so called "Before" look, Pink look that some friends have asked to see for ages now, considering it's from May 2001.
The "During" look ie. the one "Dyeing your hair" pic every girl needs in their photo album
All the photos make it seem as if I had practically black eyes but they're actually blue-grey. My hair's also long for the moment again, burgundy in colour. I always feel most at home with red hair I guess.
