Angelfire Chronicles Timeline 2005 - 2052
2005- Planet Earth Discovery project (P.E.D.) announced. It is a joint project of the United States and the European Union. Using newly developed super low frequency scanning technologies a complete three dimensional map of the Earth, from surface to core, will be made using a network of satellites which will encompass the globe. With a scanning resolution of half a meter nothing will be left undiscovered.
The United States has Military forces stationed in 15 nations throughout Eastern Europe, Western Russia, and the Middle East to ensure the uninterrupted supply of oil to the worlds industrialized nations. The world situation is tense but stable.
2008- P.E.D. satellite network completed. Two months later the first complete scan of the earth is completed. It takes another seven and a half months to sort through and organize the data into a presentable form. Thousands of new discoveries are made within the earth itself. Most are listed as ancient, unexplainable, or both. The most important public discovery is in defining the total volume and locations of fossil fuels beneath the earths surface. The total remaining world oil supply is estimated to last a maximum of 60 years. This fact is presented to the world by the General Assembly President of the United Nations on November 17 2008.
World tensions escalate over the next three weeks. Troops from around the world are staged in and around the Arab nations and western Russia as the battle for control of the worlds remaining oil reserves is set to begin. On December 12th the President of the United States announces a complete world wide recall of all United States Military forces and Embassy personnel to the mainland United States, effectively isolating it from the rest of the world.
On December 21st the President of the United States announces the United States economic and industrial base will be overhauled and refitted to operate using nuclear fusion based energy technologies. These technologies have existed for decades but have been suppressed and hidden to safeguard the world economy and the overall stability of the world as a whole. The changeover is expected to take almost ten years to complete during which time the United States will use only the oil reserves it has inside its own borders.
2009- With the worlds biggest importer of oil no longer buying the world economy is shattered. Hardest hit are the Arab nations whose economic life depended on the export of oil. Suddenly in economic ruin the Arab nations unite and wage a savage war for survival throughout the eastern hemisphere of the world.
The United States defends its own borders and leaves the rest of the world to sort itself until a new stability is reached - in whatever form it may take.
2010 to 2040- The changeover of the United States industry and economy is carried out successfully. The volume of material and industrial waste generated by the changeover is beyond the ability of the government to dispose of.
The Arab nations sought out the many mysteries within the Earth in the hopes of obtaining and maintaining power over the eastern hemisphere of the world and did meet with some measure of success. They uncover ancient ruins from ages long past when angels and demons walked the earth side by side with man and fought their eternal struggle openly. Ancient demons are awoken and alliances are formed. Other nations around the world follow suit and soon make their own discoveries and alliances.
As the world situation becomes ever more unstable, Mexico and Canada sign non-aggression treaties with the United States. The borders between the nations are opened once again, the fusion technologies are shared, and the industries and economies are refitted.
Having the truth of their existence discovered, the forces of Heaven and Hell no longer have any need to hide their existence and begin to operate openly throughout the world. The debate over if angels and demons were integrated into world society or if they took it over remains unresolved to this day.
2040-2044- Starting in the year 2040, the U.S. Federal Government contracts private corporations to dispose of the vast amounts of old industrial waste and unusable items that could not be adapted to an atomic energy based economy. The corporations bought up massive tracts of land in the American Southwest to dispose of the waste. Unknown to the government, these corporations shipped the vast majority of the waste into Mexico.
2044-2047- When the Mexican government found out about the numerous toxic poisons and other wastes being dumped in their country, they protested via diplomatic channels. The United States government ignored the cries of the Mexican government as they were reassured by the corporations they had contracted the work to that all was being carried out in proper fashion and with utmost care.
Tensions grew ever worse as the dumping of waste on Mexican land continued until Mexico closed its borders in February of 2047. Between the months of February and May, seven shipments of industrial waste that had originated in the U.S. were intercepted on Mexican territory by the Mexican Armed Forces. Armies from both countries begin to mass along both sides of the border. Both governments publicly state the goal of their actions is simply to stop the illegal dumping of waste.
What was eventually known as The Waste War began at 0246 on August 3rd 2047 when fighting broke out in the town of Agua Prieta. It lasted for eighty-seven days and devastated an enormous portion of the southwest, from Cuauhtemoc, Chihuahua in the south to Belen, New Mexico in the North; from Reynosa, Tamaulipas in the East to Blythe, California in the West. Many of the great cities of the Southwest were destroyed.
On October 28th 2047 a ceasefire was declared, and negotiations began in Ottowa, Ontario on November 1st . The Confederated North American Treaty was signed on December 23rd 2047 and the Tri-Union of North American States was formed.
2048- A large section of the American Southwest is declared a Dead Zone and is sectioned off for hazardous waste dumping. All three nations ship their waste there. One by one, the cities in the dead zone are abandoned. Only a few inhabitants dare to live in this poisoned region.
2052- Present day in the story.
