The title rights, not the story rights, to the film Fast and the Furious,
The (1954), were purchased so that the title could be used on this project,
another film about racing. The original film was shown in a theatre owned by
the grandfather of producer Neal H. Moritz.
Most of the cars in the movie were rented from private owners. This
saved Universal loads of cash, but also meant that they couldn't keep hold
of the cars after the film was released. Following the massive success
of the film, many of the owners sold these cars to collectors and they're
