Body Language
|
You may have seen a famous photo from the 30's of a group of high-rise steel-workers sitting on a beam of a Manhattan skyscraper having lunch, sixty or so stories above the ground. The photo is amazing, because the body language of every one of the men is so casual. One wrong move and they would fall to a terrible death, but there isn't an ounce of fear or even concern in the men. This is because they more than likely began working on the ground floor. Their ascent to the 60th story was so gradual from day to day, it was hardly noticeable to them. I don't like heights. I'm not casual at all looking over the edge of a high-rise. I thank God for fear. It protects me from danger. The work of the conscience is very similar. It sends out an alarm when there is any danger. To dull its voice is to remove the batteries from the smoke detector. |
