AJL South Florida Chapter
Constitution and By-Laws

CONSTITUTION

ARTICLE I - NAME shall be The South Florida Chapter of the AJL (SFAJL).

ARTICLE II - OBJECTIVES OF THE CHAPTER shall be to promote professional standards of Judaica librarianship and to encourage mutual support among associates of Judaic libraries.

ARTICLE III - MEMBERSHIP shall be open to any person or institution engaged or interested in Judaica librarianship in the are of southern Florida, upon payment of annual dues. We are a regional affiliate of the Association of Jewish Libraries, an international organization.

ARTICLE IV - OFFICERS shall be a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer, elected to serve for a period of two years.

ARTICLE V - BYLAWS shall govern the operations of this chapter. Bylaws may be adopted, amended or rescinded at any regular meeting of the SFAJL by a majority vote of the members present and voting, following a minimum of 30 days advance written notification of the meeting and the proposed alteration in by-laws.

BY-LAWS

ARTICLE I - FISCAL YEAR for the SFAJL Shall be from July 1 to June 30.

ARTICLE II - ANNUAL DUES shall be $15.00 payable at the first meeting of the fiscal year. Membership in the national association is to be encouraged at this time.

ARTICLE III - ELECTIONS OF OFFICERS shall be every two years.

ARTICLE IV - DUTIES OF OFFICERS shall be in accordance with their respective offices. The president shall keep the membership informed of issues relating to the national organization. The secretary and treasurer shall keep adequate records and shall make reports at each meeting. The records entrusted in their care shall be presented in good order to their successors.

ARTICLE V - MEETINGS shall be at least five times per year: August, October, January, March, and May, held in representative libraries or other suitable locations throughout Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties. The exact locations and dates of the yearly meetings shall be decided upon at the first meeting of the year. The host library shall make arrangements for lunch.

ARTICLE VI - PROGRAMS for each meeting shall be planned in advance by the president in conjuction with the host library. The president shall prepare a written agenda.
