hello! Sorry it's been so long, around 6 months has gone by and
I'm just now updating. George and Chris are doing fantastic in
Florida and Hot Water Music has signed with Some Records and will
be recording and touring soon. Jack is hard at play in Boston
and I'm still in San Diego trying to get this record label going.
Check out www.aboutmidnight.com
for more information. The last songs that we recorded should be
out in the next few months. I'll email everyone that has written in
when it's finally real. Many people have emailed and asked where
to get Chemistry for Changing Times and as far as I know it's still
in press. Check out www.lumberjack-online.com
for ordering info.
Cheers to a sweet valentine's day for everyone!
15 August 1998
Well...it's all over. August 13 we played our last show at the Hardback in Gainesville
with Jejune, Piebald and Burned Up Bled Dry. It was also my birthday and all in all
a pretty heartwrenching experience. But digs on the future tip:
we recorded our last song yesterday and that means that we have 5 songs to
put out...we also have a bunch of silliness and chaotic nonsense that we
put together and I can personally guarantee all of it will be out sometime in late fall. I move to San
Diego on the 19th, Jack moves to Boston on the 20-somethingish and George is
still deciding his fate. The ajax@atlantic.net address will be out of commission
come the 18th and hwm@atlantic.net is cancelled also. But you can write me personally
at rexruther@hotmail.com or at heather@muddle.com. Jack can be reached at loudmouthsoup@hotmail.com
and George is waiting for a modem so he can join the technology crew and I'll post
his address whenever that comes around. So thanks to everyone for reading and
I plan to update this when I get more news on what everyone's doing and future
releases. Wish us luck in our new and exciting endeavors and take care. It's been
a heck of a ride.............*heather*

I'm in Ithaca NY right now. Dave from Muddle just bought me dinner and is trying to woo
me into moving to San Diego with him. I think I'll go. Issue #14 (NEW!) of Muddle comes out
next Wednesday (7/22/98) with some smartass writing from yours truly. And check out my top ten on the Muddle
page. Last show still set for the 14th. Cheers.
4 July 1998
George wanted me to post something about him being newly available to move anywhere
and play for a band. He's absolutely incredible and a dedicated guy. So if anyone
would like to contact him about possibilities, email him at the address below
or after Aug 15th at: blacktopcadence@hotmail.com. We will have a vinyl version
of Chemistry within a few months...
2 July 1998
Awwww...Jack and I return from the Columbus fest with light hearts and sweet smiles. We had a great time and met some amazing people. As far as I can tell, TBC's last shows will be August 13th (my birthday!) in Gainesville and 14th in Orlando, both with Jejune and Piebald. HWM's last show (I think--don't hold me to this) is August 28th. Thanks to Nick in Columbus, Jen Angel, Peter Thick As Thieves, Dave and Eric from Muddle, Celeste Peterson, Elizabeth & Sarge, Rainer Maria, Discount and Braid for making those 6 days away some of the most memorable...*h*.
23 June 1998
The Blacktop Cadence nor Hot Water Music will be playing Wilkes-Barre fest or Columbus fest. HWM's tour in July with Elliot is off. Chamberlain is replacing them. The Blacktop Cadence may be playing 2 last shows. We will know for sure next week some time. Jack and I are going to drive up to Columbus fest to escape and maybe sell some of our records and t-shirts to pay back our label. Come talk to us if you go....
12 June 1998
Hey...this is heather and it's been a while because my computer has been "in
the shop" for some time now. For all of you that even bother to read this, thank you.
it's been a really terrible past 5 weeks for all of us and it looks like
we are going to break up. We plan to release those last 3 songs we've recorded
and do the Wilkes-Barre fest and 6 last shows in August. The dates are on
the *shows* page. As it looks right now, I will be moving to San Diego September
1st to work with Dave and Eric of Muddle Fanzine and Dave of Caffeine Vs.
Nicotine Records....hopefully find some people to play with...and have a
great time out there in a big city. Jack will be relocating to Boston around
the same time and living large up there as well. And apparently Hot Water Music
has broken up in Europe and we have no idea what's going on with them right
now. This has been a really heart-wrenching experience for us. Never have I
thought we could accomplish what we did as a band and as friends together.
I have a lot of things I need to finish before I leave, but feel free to contact
Jack and I anytime. I'm going to send out a mass email pretty soon after HWM
returns from Europe and we all talk. But the rumor is pretty much out.
So...the repress of our CD will be out in a few weeks and the 3 songs we recorded
for those various projects will still happen.
Thanks.. It's been
incredible.

hello all, this is jack. i just finished recording my parts a couple of days ago, and i am really excited the way things are turning out. heather is out in san diego, vacationing with the fine folks of jejune, and needless to say i am jealous. with hwm gone for the summer, and heather gone, i have this great house all to myself though, so im not complaining too much. anyway, we just did three songs, one for a split 7" with jejune, one for a smith's cover comp (well i wonder is the song) on The First Time Records, and one for a comp that muddle fanzine is putting out which, i believe is issue #15, but im not positive, but they will all be out sometime this fall, so keep your eyes open. i would like to thank everyone who has responded to the page, or just responded to us in general, it means alot to us that people are giving us a chance as a band, and not a side project. take care...
3 May 1998
we just recorded three songs on friday night and it turned out great. jack's parts
aren't finished yet and it still sounds a million times better than anything
on the CD. so we finish him up on tuesday and then mix sometime in the near future.
Chris and George left late last night for the Hot Water Music/Grade World Domination
1998 Tour sponsored by Busch. jack and i are going to work on booking the august tour
and sharpening our social skills.
15 April 1998
hello all. this is jack and i just finished up the lyrics page, which now includes the words to "to the rhythm of a cold night in virginia" which is on the emo diaries volume 2. i've been trying to add some more photos to the images page but i can't seem to figure out how this damn thing works. however, i did figure out how to type words so here i am. hot water music is out on tour for the rest of the summer, so heather and i have to find something constructive to do with our time, i.e. this web page. we would like to thank tony in lexington for getting us started. we are planning a tour in august, beginning on the 5th and ending whenever hot water goes back out. i'm hoping we make it out west this time, i've never been out west before. while i'm thinking about it, in the april 6th news heather wrote that "we all had a blast except for jack..." which is not true. my car did break down but i still had a blast at the fest, harrisonburg is one of the coolest towns i've been to. it wasn't until i was toughing out the hell hole that is so pleasantly titled "mount airy north carolina" that i started to have a bad time. that is where my car broke down and i had to spend 7 days alone in a small hotel room waiting for my car to be fixed. that little vacation only cost about $1200, which, needless to say, i was none too pleased about. anyway, i am home now and i didn't lose my job, i did miss two shows which i was pretty sad about but what can you do? oh, well, this isn't the "mindless babble" section of the page so i will stop wasting time. look out for the fall tour, if you are on our mailing list you will find out about it this summer, if not email us and we will set you up. oh yeah, i book shows, so let me know if you or your friends like to play music in front of people in different places, i might be able to help you, and gainesville would love to have you. thanks for reading...
6 April 1998
We've just returned from the MACRoCK conference in Harrisonburg VA where
we played with such fabulous bands as 6 Going on 7, Tim, All Natural Lemon
and Lime Flavors, Funsize, Ann Beretta, 12 Hour Turn, Engine Down, Avail
and of course Hot Water Music...
MACRoCK.We all had a blast except for Jack--his
car broke down in North Carolina (he drove up with 12 Hour Turn) and we
had to leave him...he's still there waiting for his car to be fixed and
subsequently we are missing a show at the Covered Dish on the 7th of April.
Damn.
2 April 1998
The band has decided that we will record around 5 more songs before Hot
Water Music leaves for their mega-summer-touring... 1 song will be on a
split with Jejune on Big Wheel Recreation. 1 song will be a Smiths cover
on The First Time Records; 2 will go on a 7-inch; and the other...well,
we're just not sure.
1 April 1998
Tour was amazing. We had the coolest shows in Athens GA and Lexington KY (thanks Tony*!*) and then we played the Detroit fest which had to have been the scariest moment yet for Heather and Jack. Imagine never playing to more than 100 people and having to get up on the biggest stage in front of rows and rows and rows of people...Ugh. All the bands were incredible and it was a great benefit. Then we hooked up with Jejune in Champaign IL and all hell broke loose. There was a terrible blizzard from Illinois to Pennsylvania (our next 4 shows) and after we pushed our van out from a snowed-in bank in front of Todd from Braid's house and Jejune drove the wrong way on a one-way street we hit the highway. Chris was at the wheel in our van and Joe from Jejune drove the other van (I know what yr thinking --a Florida kid and a California kid driving in a blizzard) :) We counted 79 cars that had flipped, jack-knifed or just plain went off the road in a 60-mile stretch. 20 miles into Indiana we were car #80 and spun off into the median. It was extremely frightening to think that we were going to flip and die. So as soon as we collected ourselves David, Jejune's roadie came from his van to check on us and he took Heather (a member of AAA) in the other van to get help. About a mile and a half down the highway that van made position #81 as it went backwards off an icy bridge into the median. THE VANS. Heather was in both wrecks, Jack managed to stay out of both of them because he and Araby had switched vans for the ride. Needless to say, we missed our Columbus show at the Legion of Doom that night. Instead we booked a room at the Dollar Inn in Crawfordsville, IN. and proceeded to drink lots of beer and watch hockey. The rest of the tour went off without a hitch... Thankful to be alive and playing our Cleveland show with Carlysle was cathartic...Wilkes-Barre is always fun because Mike Blair lives there...{ha, a rhyme}WILKES-BARRE. In South Carolina we went to see a "UFO Welcome Center" handmade by this really cool guy that lived in a small trailer in the middle of nowhere. He gave us a group rate and offered us free miniature golf {the mini-golf courses were for the aliens of course} but he had no putters. Go figure. One other noteworthy point...Chris and David got the show in Charleston SC shut down because they thought shooting off the fireworks they had scrounged in the parking lot would be a good idea...The band Boxer from Boston had to cut their set short...It was all in good fun though and no one was mad except for the big scary guy that came to shut the show down. We made it to Florida and played our last shows with Jejune...sniff... said our goodbyes to perhaps the coolest, sweetest group of people we've ever encountered.
