Lorado, WV Page continued, Lot's more good pictures

Lorado was five years old when this picture was taken. I just figured out why the hills are so bare, it is because they used all the trees to build the houses, store, drug store, school, and all the other buildings. In this picture you can see the Lorado Grade School, the theater, Company Store (big store), Drug Store, Pool Room, Doctor's Office, Post Office and a few other big buildings I don't remember, and one small building between the pool room and post office.

A bronze plaque in honor of the men from The Lorado Coal Mining Company who served in the Armed Forces in two World Wars, and in memory of those who made the supreme sacrifice, was dedicated at Lorado on Sunday, November 13, 1949The dedication program was one of the most impressive and best attended ever to be held in Lorado. Despite the threatening weather and some rain, a large crowd witnessed the ceremonies and it is estimated that between 1,200 and 1,500 were present for the event. The dedicatory program was in the chruchyard of the Lorado Community Church. The invocation was delivered by the Rev. R.B. Workman, the Plaque bore the inscription:

THIS PLAQUE IS ERECTED IN HONOR OF ALL
THOSE OF THE LORADO COAL MINING COM-
PANY WHO SERVED IN THE ARMED FORCES
DURING TWO WORLD WARS AND IN MEM-
ORY OF THOSE WHO MADE THE SUPREME
SACRIFICE.

Daddy always loved a new car and usually bought a new one every two years, I can remember my mother saying"We have never been without a car payment" but in those days a car was paid for in two years. The one on the left was a Maroon 51 Chevy and the one on the right was a pale green 57 Plymouth LaSalle.
