John was born Nov 25, 1816 in Beinwil, Solothurn, Switzerland, and came to America in 1850.
They lived in Farmington township, north of Snydersburg, county of Clarion.
My brother remembers Dad saying that John is buried in Lucinda
beneath the current grave of Father (Monsignor) William (Big Bill) Holl.
My European cousins, contacted in 1998 - 1999, in Switzerland and Spain, sent this information to me. Thank you, Alois, Carlos, Claudia, and Paco. And thank you, Stephan in Paris, for giving me Alois' address (two times) which I passed to Carlos, then to Paco, then the contact was made with Alois. They had a grand Grolimund Fest in Beinwil in May 1999. I am sorry that I was not there. A good time was had by all. See my 3rd European correspondence file, where Alois describes his research in the "script of the book of the baptized" at the Staatsarchiv Solothurn. This was where he found my great-grandfather John/Joanes Grolimund listed in the records.
My Pennsylvania cousin, Lois, Aunt Squeek's daughter, has done a lot of research into her family's history on both her Dad's (Tingley) side and on her Mom's (Swartzfager) side. She told me once that, in the Clarion county's census records, she saw a Grolemund family listed in the mid 1800's. She saw one listing giving the origin as Baden and another listing giving the origin as Switzerland. I will have to write to her to ask her how to go about looking it up for myself the next time I am in that part of Pennsylvania. I do know that she was having some luck tracing the Thorpe branch back through Scotland. She wrote and published a short volume on the History and Genealogy of the Schillinger, Thorp, Thorp-Collier, Nick and Swartzfager families in 1979. She titled her book "Across the Wilderness" and again published an updated and revised version in 1993.

In the e-mail from Tom Risinger, he says: > I have attached two pedigree chart files. You will notice on some of the > earliest births it says "Born vor 1700." Vor means before in German. > There are no church records for Oberbergen before 1700 because of the > "30 Years War" which actually lasted from about 1600 to about 1650. > Also you'll notice Obg. that is an abbreviation for Oberbergen.
Hi. I can give you some more on the Levy Family. This is from census records, info from internet and E-Mails I have had with descendants of some of Christian & Hettie Levy's children. This is what I have on the Levy family. Christian Levy Sr. born about 1786 in Philadelphia. Parents were Jewish merchants in Philadelphia. He married Elizabeth ________ born about 1789. Left Philadelphia after marrying out of Jewish faith and lived in Lancaster & Huntingdon Co, PA. Came to Pine Grove Twp,Venango Co, PA in 1830's. Christian died after 1860, Elizabeth died between 1850-1860. Known Children - Mary Elizabeth ( born Nov 13,1813), Jacob ( 1812-1895) married Elizabeth Mong, Christian Jr. ( born about 1815) married Harriet Esther Hoover [Huber], Barbara ( born 1816) married Thomas Stover, and possibly a son named Aaron. Christian Jr & Hettie Levy lived in Rockland,Venango Co, PA. He is listed in the 1860 census as a tailor. By 1880 Christian is dead and Hettie is living in Emlenton, PA. She died in Lucinda, PA while visiting her daughter Mary Ann Gannon. Christian is probably buried in the Rockland Cemetery but I haven't had time to research that.

I just recently found these pages in January 2006.

(3) Records and history assembled in a book published by the Lucinda parish for Knox Township: =KT

(4) The European connections for the "ancient" traces.
(5) Berny Clark for the Walley corrections and additions.
(6) Steve Heasley for the Gannon and Levy updates.
(7) Tom Risinger for the Weber and Ipser updates.
(8) I'm still waiting for more inputs or to expand some of the lines.
I have a lot more of this info, and stories, both from Lois' book and
from the Knox Township book published by the good ladies of St Joseph's
Church of Lucinda. It just takes time to
put into this format. (When I'm not dancing... or doing my day job.) However,
I will appreciate any additional input I can get.
There are some historical notes covering the coal mines, the Indians,
moonshiners, horse thieves, mayors, governors, etc. Lois also used the
Mormon (Latter Day Saints) histories to fill in some of the missing blanks.
A lot of blanks are still unfilled. The census didn't care much who were the
brothers and sisters or aunts and uncles of the heads of households; just how
many mouthes being fed or starving in each house. Maybe someone out there
has a great-great grandparent that was a brother or sister of one of the
great-great grandparents shown on this chart. If so, click here & --->
Let me know.
In May 1999, I received a letter from a "cousin" in Switzerland,
telling me that he had identified the birthplace and parents of my
great grandfather JOHN. On the European chart,
my grandfather was not originally listed, but he is now showing as the
youngest son of the branch at the far right. His father was
Josephus Carolus (Joseph Karl) 1776 - 1848 and his mother was
Anna Maria Karrer. He is listed as Joanes (Johann), Bürger of
Beinwil in the Schwarzbubenland, Canton Solothurn.

Marla's Matt found the format for this tree at
http://www.ida.net/users/elaine/pedigre2.htm
which I have modified quite a bit to add the colors, the indexing, and the insertion and
cross-linking to aunts and uncles (= brothers and sisters). In July 2003 I have added a fifth column to link to internal references to the next generation, leaving a format to fill in data when it is received.
