Chapter 2
"Kristy get up! You're going to be late for
school soon!" Kristy's
mom Bridget yelled.
"I'm up I promise!" Kristy moaned. She got
up and changed.
She looked in the mirror and sighed, '5 years,' she thought
to herself.
"Hey Kris!" Kristy's best friend Nicci said walking
over to her.
"Hey N, I am really unpopular?" Kristy asked her as
she grabbed her bag.
"Kris not this again. Look, Nick is over. It's
been 5 years
and he's an asshole jock now," Nicci said as Kristy sighed.
"I
know I just wish everything was back the way
it was," Kristy said getting
into Nicci's Jeep.
"You're 18 Kris, be happy. We're graduating next
week
and the prom is tomorrow!" Nicci said happily.
"You're
right…for once," Kristy smiled.
"HEY!" Nicci pouted as Kristy
laughed.
"Hey Kristy, how's basketball?" The jock Tristan asked
with
a laugh. Kristy cost the whole team the game that
season, she never
lived in down. Especially not by the jocks.
"Hey Nick, what do you think?
Kristy sucks or she's just
dumb?" Tristan asked Nick as they walked away.
Nick looked
back at her, her head hanging down as she shut her locker door.
"Kristy,
think about it. Would you rather live in the now or
in the past?" Nicci
said putting her arm around Kristy's shoulder.
"You know what…you're
right. He's an asshole!" Kristy
said with a smile. She had to face that
her and Nick were
not even close to being friends anymore, she had to live with
the
reality.
"Kristy can you tell me what the answer is to problem
23
is?" Mr. Calvert asked Kristy. She took the pencil out of her mouth
and grinned.
".023 sir," she said feeling proud of herself.
"Nick?
Number 24?" Mr. Calvert asked Nick as Kristy
looked over at him. They
sat in the same row, yet never spoke a
word to each other.
"Um…I
don't know," Nick said as Kristy rolled her eyes and
crossed her legs.
"Well
maybe next time you will," Mr. Calvert said as the bell rung.
"Tomorrow
Mr. Carter I suggest you have an answer, I'll
ask you again!" He said as
Kristy put her things in
her bag and watched Nick leave with the jocks.
"He's
not worth anything," Kristy's friend Joey said from
behind her. "I
mean, he might be the most popular guy in
school but that will tell you something
right there," he said as she nodded.
"Thanks Joey, I'll remember
that," Kristy said walking out the door.
She banged right into Nick,
her books and papers falling on
the ground as the jocks laughed at her. Kristy
kneeled down
on the floor and started picking them up as Nick got down
on
the floor as well. He handed her her papers as she
snatched them like he couldn't
touch them.
"Nick why did you help her man?" Tristan asked as Kristy
walked
down the hall sadly.
Nick and Kristy had almost every class together,
which definitely
made it hard for Kristy to lighten up. Wherever she went
he
was there to laugh and mock her. Tristan too.
"So Nick? Who are you
going to the prom with?" Tristan
asked. Kristy was in front of Nick and
Tristan's desks.
"Emily Jones," Nick said as Kristy closed her eyes
in
anger. The cheerleading coach and homecoming queen
for every year she
was there.
"That fine girl? Damn I wish I was you," Tristan said
as Nick
sighed.
"Not all the time," Nick said as Kristy rolled
her eyes as got
up to sharpen her pencil. Kristy felt a foot stop her as Tristan
smiled.
"What's the magic word?" Tristan asked.
"Let
me pass," Kristy said sadly. She couldn't look at Nick,
she was afraid
he was laughing at her as much as Tristan was.
"Aww come on, can't you
make a guess DICK-inson?" Tristan asked
with a laugh at her last name.
"Please?"
She said.
"No good guess, it was loser…referring to you, have fun
sharpening!"
Tristan said taking his foot away as she walked by.
"Class settle down,"
Mrs. Heath said as Kristy sat down in her seat.
"As your health teacher,
I am advised to tell you the rules
and regulations at tomorrow's prom,"
she said handing out
papers. "No drinking, sex, drugs, or rooms. If we
see any of
you go up to a hotel room you are not aloud to
graduate,"
Mrs. Heath said as Tristan cursed under his breath.
"This party is on
the top floor of the hotel, but anything that
we see suspicious, you know what
will happen. That goes
for especially you Tristan," Mrs. Heath said as Tristan
and
Nick laughed. "You Nick? You too," she said as Kristy
read
over the paper of rules.
"Mrs. Heath?" Kristy asked raising her
hand.
"Yes Kristy?"
"This says no limo transportation,"
she said as everyone
whined and booed.
"That was not my rule, it
was the principal's decision to
ban the limo's, he thinks drinking it admitted
in them."
"The principal sucks!" Tristan said as everyone
laughed.
The bell rang as everyone got up and got out for the end of school.
"Hey
Kris, school suck today?" Nicci asked as Kristy walked to her
locker.
"I
bumped into him today and he still didn't talk to me
N," Kristy exclaimed
almost in tears.
"Chill Kris! Prom remember? Jeremiah is taking you
and I
promise everything about Nick will go away. Not even
a bit will be
left!" Nicci said as Kristy opened her locker.
"Kristy what is
that horrible thing in your locker!?!" Tristan
yelled slamming her locker
door as Nick walked by.
"Get a life assholes!" Nicci yelled as
Kristy reopened her locker
and put her put inside.
"Can you come
over tomorrow and help me get
ready?" Kristy asked shutting her locker
door.
"Of course! I'll bring my make-up stuff and my dress and
we
can get ready together," Nicci said as they walked out
the door and down
the steps.
"Do you think Jeremiah likes me?" Kristy asked.
"He
wouldn't have asked you if he didn't Kris," Nicci said
as they got into
the car.
"I know, I just…I don't know," Kristy said sighing.
She
watched as Nick sat on the steps talking to Emily.
"Come on, we've got
some things to plan!" Nicci said as the sped off.
