Chapter 3

"Kris! Nicci's here!" Bridget yelled as Nicci ran up the stairs.
She opened Kristy's door and threw her dress on the bed.

"Ready for a night of fun?" Nicci asked as Kristy smiled.

"Ready as you are!" Kristy said with a giggle of
happiness. "Want to see my dress?" Kristy asked pulling it
out of her closet.

"Wow, it's beautiful Kris!" Nicci said looking in awe.

"I love yours too Nicci," Kristy said as she changed into her
dress. Nicci changed as well as they looked in the mirror.

"We look weird, hair and make-up definitely need improvement,"
Nicci said sitting Kristy down in a chair. She put her hair up
and gave her some make-up as she smiled bright. "A hottie, I swear!"

"Gee thanks Nic, I'll remember that one," Kristy said looking
in the mirror. She never thought she was that beautiful
until that day, Nicci was so talented.

"Hi, you look beautiful," Jeremiah said at the sight of Kristy an hour
later.

"Thanks," she blushed. He gave her a corsage as they headed out the door.

"Bye Nicci, she you there!" Kristy yelled to Nicci down by Nicci's
boyfriend Chris' car.

When they got there, Jeremiah saw one of his friends so Kristy
decided to go up by herself and wait up there. As soon as she got
in she saw Nick coming by himself as he got in. The door
shut…they were alone in the elevator. She glanced at him and
looked back at the floor buttons.

As soon as it hit 13…it stopped.

"Did you press 13?" Nick asked as Kristy rolled her eyes.

"Why would I do that?"

"Well you must have if we stopped."

"Well if I did the doors would open wouldn't they?
It wouldn't take a genius to figure out we're stuck," Kristy snapped.

"Shit!" Nick said walking up the button panel and pressing
all the buttons. "We can't be stuck this is the prom dammit!"

"Fine," Kristy said sitting down on the ground in the corner
farthest away from Nick. "If it makes you feel better I don't
want to be stuck in here either."

"Oh that makes everything better!" Nick said sitting down
on the ground. He looked at her and sighed. "Sorry I get…"

"Claustrophobic I know," Kristy sighed as Nick nodded.

"You remember?"

"How can I not? Remember that one time when you
were 6 and I locked you in the closet? You cried forever."

"I didn't cry!" Nick said defensively.

"Whatever," Kristy said cleaning her nails. "You cried for days.
Our mom's had to make a contract for us that promised
we would never do that again."

"Now I remember that part," Nick said with a laugh. "That was funny."

"The stupidest things are funny to you."

"What's your problem?" Nick asked angrily.

"MY problem?" She yelled. "You haven't talked to me since
I was 13! Once you became a freshman you never
talked to me again! Asshole!"

"I did not, you stopped talking to me," Nick said sitting
indian style.

"You were the one who became friends with Tristan and
laugh at me whenever you can, like yesterday?"

"I didn't laugh, I never laugh when he does stuff to you."

"Why? You probably want to. Think it's funny to
see me humiliated," Kristy mumbled.

"I do not! Look I'm sorry okay? That's just the way
Tristan is," Nick shrugged.

"Then why don't you ever say something? He's made fun of
me for 5 years and not one single thing has come
from your pathetic mouth."

"I…I…I don't know. Why don't you ever say anything to
him? I mean you think after 5 years you'd say
something to him about it."

"Fuck you," she said angrily.

"Fine, I haven't talked to you in 5 years I can still not talk
to you now," Nick said folding his arms as they
stared at each other with anger.

"How's Emily?" Kristy asked with a laugh.

"Fine, she's great."

"I bet, going to the prom with the most popular guy in
school? I mean like being a blonde-haired bitch doesn't
count to how much I hate her she has to date you,"
Kristy said as Nick got red in the face.

"She's beautiful, that more than I can say…" he stopped
himself before he said it, but Kristy knew what he meant.

"To me? Me right?" Kristy said sadly. She turned her back
on him as she started to cry. She never thought he
would say that, ever.

"Kristy I'm sorry I didn't mean it," Nick said getting up
and walking over to her. "I was just mad."

"Leave the ugly girl alone, she can't talk to you right
now," Kristy said brushing Nick off as hot burning tears
streamed down her face.

Nick sat back down and sighed. He felt like kicking himself in the
head.

"I didn't mean it, I'm sorry," Nick apologized looking at her
back. He never really got a good look at her in the
elevator, he was too nervous to care.

He looked at her hair at how perfect it was, brown and long.
Her dress was beautiful on her and her hands looked
so delicate to the touch.

"I always thought it was true I just never thought I'd hear it
from you," she said turning back around. Her mascara
ruined, her face red, and yet to Nick she looked so
angelic and perfect.

"I didn't mean it…"

Kristy shook her head and shrugged. "It's okay, I'm over it.
I cried too much about it anyways," she said with a laugh.
She pulled tissues out of her purse and wiped her
tears away as Nick looked at her.

"Do you remember the dance in 8th grade when James
broke up with you?" Nick asked with a laugh.
"It was so easy to comfort you then."

"Yeah well, then I was your best friend…then was when we…"
she stopped at the thought of the kiss they shared.
Of what she could remember of it, it was perfect.
The kisses that you want to last forever and never want to stop.

"I've missed you Kris," Nick said as she looked into his beautiful ocean blue eyes.

"I wish I could change everything that happened," he said as she nodded.

"Well…you can't, that's the problem," she said as she looked at her watch…9:03.
