Chapter 5
"What's it like to be popular?" Kristy asked still in the
position
she was an hour before.
"Not everything in the world."
"Must
be nice though."
"Maybe to you."
"Is that why you're
trying to by friends with me again? Because you
want to be unpopular?"
"Of
course not."
"Yeah okay. Sorry I asked."
"What's
it like being friends with Nicci Jacobs?"
"She's MY best friend,
so leave her alone."
"Why does she always bitch at me?"
"Cause
I told her what you did to me, so she hates you."
"Does everyone
who know you hate me?"
"Of course. Joey, Nicci, my mom, my dad…"
"Your
parents hate me?"
"Nick," she said sitting up and looking at
him with tears still in
her eyes from before. "When you stopped talking
to me I locked
myself in my room for 3 days, my parents at first didn't hate
you. But then when they realized what you did and why you stopped
talking
to me they do hate you."
"Why do you think I stopped talking to
you?"
"I have my thoughts."
"Tell me."
"NO."
"Tell
me."
"Go play basketball with your head or something."
"Tell
me."
"FINE! I thought it was because if you stayed my friend you
couldn't be popular, so you ditched me. And look at Nick now,
why…he's popular!"
"I
would never do that to you."
"Then tell me why you never talked
to me until tonight." Nick sighed
and brushed his hair back away from his
face.
"I don't know," he said as she laughed.
"You don't
know. That's great Nick."
"I wish I didn't! I miss you, I miss
the pillow fights, the tickle
tortures, the cookies, the kisses that we would
accidentally give
to each other and think nothing of," he paused as he saw
her
saddened face. "I threw everything away with you, and I would
give
anything to bring it back."
She sighed as he laughed. "Remember
that one time when you
spent the night at my house and we kissed? That massive
kiss that
after we were breathing heavily?" He asked as she grinned.
"I
remember that because after we laughed and shook it off."
"I remember
Nick," she nodded.
"Or the time when you jumped off the diving board
and your
bikini top fell off? You made me dive into the deep end and get
it,"
he said as she smiled. "I stared at you for so long that day
you smacked
me in the face." They both laughed as all the fun
times came back again
in their minds.
"Remember when I got my first bra and you used it as
a catapult
for your water balloons?" Kristy asked as he laughed.
"The
wire broke and my mom made me buy you another one."
"I remember,
you came to my house holding it with your index
finger in disgust! Then Jane
made you apologize and made me
go put it on to make her feel better!" They
both laughed as the
lights flickered.
"Okay…small room, no lights,"
Nick panicked.
"It's okay," Kristy said walking over to him and
sitting next to
him. She took his hand and sighed. "Everything will be
okay."
