Chapter 5
Jessie handed Jason to Frank as Frank whistled.
"You look great Jessie!"
He said as he held onto Jason.
"Thanks," she said looking at herself.
She was wearing a
green spaghetti-strap dress that came up to her thighs
and
green platforms.
"Go have a good time, you deserve it," Frank said
kissing
her forehead. Jessie kissed Jason's cheek and walked down
the stairs
into the bookstore, looking at Nick. He was sitting at the café
waiting for her
to come.
"Hi there," she said as he got up.
"Hi! Wow,"
he said taking her hands.
"Thanks," she said trying to forget what
happened earlier that day.
"You ready to go?" Nick asked grabbing
his coat.
"Um…yeah," she said nodding. Nick opened the door for
her and took her hand as they walked down the street.
"So you know
where you're going?" She asked.
"I told you! Yeah! I was born
here, I do have some New
York in me," he said as they turned a corner.
She rolled her
eyes and smiled. She was going to make the best of the
night
since she knew he wouldn't stick around.
"Where are we going?"
She asked.
"You'll see," he said with a sly grin on his face.
She
rolled her eyes and smiled wide.
'He's so cute in a weird kind of way,' she
thought.
About 10 minutes down the way she
knew where she was going.
"Nick
why are we going to Rockefeller Center?"
She asked as he stopped.
"How
did you know we were going there?" He asked curiously.
"I live
here Nick," she said as he nodded.
"Good point."
"So?"
"So
what?"
"Why are we here!" She said stating the obvious.
"Oh!
Well I thought we could go skating," he said
continuing his walking.
"I
didn't bring my skates! You didn't either
I suppose," she said walking
behind him.
"Don't worry, its taken care of," he said taking her
hand and pulling her up to his speed.
"Why does that make me worried?"
She said.
"Ha ha ha, funny. You know I'm a real nice, not
clumsy,
and caring guy if you would try to see that."
"How can I if we're
going skating?" She said proving
a point.
"What we can't talk
while we're skating?"
"Fine. Whatever," she said sighing.
She knew he was angry about Jason, and she just didn't
want to deal
with the rejection.
"Yeah whatever," he said walking faster.
He passed the skating
rink as she stopped him.
"Are you blind it's
right there," she said pointing to the ice.
"Changed my mind,"
he said walking again.
"And you say I'm insane," she said as he
rolled his eyes.
She stopped as he stopped and looked at her.
"Look
if you're acting this way…I'm outta here,"
she said walking away from him.

"I'm
outta here," Jessie said as Nick sighed.
He knew he was acting like a jerk,
and he blew it.
"Jess! Jessie come on," he said running after her
and
stopping her.
"Don't touch me," she said hitting his arm
of her.
"Jess please."
"Don't call me Jess, my mother
called me that," she said almost in tears.
"Can we go talk somewhere?
That's where I was trying to
take you," he said lifting her chin with his
index finger.
She nodded as he saw tears stream down her face.
He hugged
her; she was so gentle, feeling as if he held her any
tighter she would break.
"Come on," he said taking her hand.
