Chapter 6
"I'm sorry you saw me cry like this," Jessie said wiping
her eyes
as they sat down at a booth in the Planet Hollywood.
"No, it's definitely
okay," he said grinning.
"Hi I'm Tracy, what'll ya have?" She
asked taking out her pad and pen.
"Um…just coffee for me," Jessie
said.
"Captain crunch chicken fingers for me! Oh and a
coke please,"
Nick said handing Tracy their menus.
"I'll be right back with your drinks,"
she said walking off.
"Why did you take me to such a busy place? I mean
what if
someone sees you here with me," Jessie said playing with a sugar
packet.
"Well for one I know this is the one place people don't
come
and bug me, and even if they do…I want them to," he said
as she looked at
him and grinned. "Why were you crying?"
He asked.
"Just
a lot of stuff, it's hard to explain, you'd
never understand," she said
shaking her head.
"Try me," he said looking at her shimmering green
eyes.
"Well, there's the fact that I have a son," she said as Nick
looked down. "And everytime I try to start a relationship,
or even go
on a date, it gets cut short because of Jason,"
she said as Nick sighed.
"That
won't be a problem, why should it?"
"Because you're scared,"
she said as Tracy came and gave them their drinks.
"You have to overcome
your fears," he said taking a sip of his coke.
"Oh, I guess I have
to overcome you?" She said laughing at
what she just said. "I can't
believe I said that outloud," she said
shaking her head in disbelief. He
took her right hand
and kissed it lightly.
"I'm scared too,"
he said as she looked into his eyes.
"I know I want to try with you, if
you will just give me a chance,"
he said as she took her hand away from
his.
"Okay…tonight is your chance," she said putting her left arm
on the table.
"You're serious?" He said a little shocked.
"You
bet," she said taking a sip of her black coffee.
"Well okay then,"
he said smiling wide. "You'll love me,
really," he said as she laughed.
"I
bet I will," she said sarcastically.
After an hour, they were really
starting to understand each
other. They talked about living in Florida, and New
York,
they talked about Jason and the father of Jason, and they talked about
the Backstreet Boys.
"It has some advantages, not many," he
said sighing.
"Like what?"
"Um…being able to travel
EVERYWHERE, being able to sing,
be a role model's always really cool," he
said as she interrupted.
"I bet being a teen idol and a sex symbol to
horny teenage girls is too," she said laughing.
"Am I a sex
symbol to you?" He whispered as she laughed.
"Do I make you horny baby?"
He said in a deep voice as they
both laughed hysterically. Jessie looked at her
watch
and panicked.
"Um…I gotta go," she said getting her coat.
"Wait,
let me go with you," he said as she waited impatiently.
"Where are
we going?" He asked as they put on their coats.
"I told Frank I'd
be home by now, Jason's alone in the
apartment," she said as they took a
taxi. She ran up the stairs
to her apartment as Nick followed. She opened her
door to see
Jason giggling on the floor.
"God, that scared me,"
she said running over to Jason and
picking him up and holding him. Nick walked
over to him
and smiled.
"He is cute," Nick said rubbing his
head.
Jason giggled as Jessie laughed.
"We're just going to put him
to bed," she said walking into
Jason's room. She kissed his cheek and turned
off the lights.
"Sorry about that," she said shutting the door.
"Oh
no problem," he said sitting on the couch.
Jessie sat down next to him and
sighed.
"This is the first time I've sat on my couch in months,"
she said
laying back on the couch and closing her eyes. Nick looked
at her
and smiled. She opened her eyes
and sat up.
"Coffee? Beer? Coke?"
She asked as he shook his head.
She got up and stuck her head in the fridge trying
to find
what she wanted to drink. When she turned around, he
was standing
in front of her.
"Oh God, you scared me," she said shutting the
door.
He got closer to her, brushing his hand over her cheek.
She leaned
on the fridge as he came closer.
"Sorry," he whispered as he came
in. She wanted to kiss
him; she liked him so much. As he came in Jason's started
screaming.
"Be right back," she said walking over to Jason's
room.
"Jason what's wrong sweetie?" She said picking him up.

"Be
right back," Jessie said as he watched her walk to
Jason's room. He sighed
at the smell of her, the way she walked,
just the thought of her made his heart
skip a beat. Nick's cell phone rang as
he jumped; he took it out of his coat
pocket.
"Hello?"
"Nicky boy, where are you?" Howie
asked as Nick rolled his eyes.
"You know damn well where I am,"
Nick said as he peeked
in Jason's room to see Jessie patting Jason's back.
"Just
wanted to see how it was going," Howie said with an evil
kind of voice.
"Fine,
it's fine," Nick said as Jessie walked back in. "I gotta
go,"
Nick said as she walked over to him. She grinned and
kissed his cheek lightly,
walking back over to the counter and
sitting on it, waiting for him.
"Oh,
Kev wants to talk to you about tomorrow," Howie said
as Nick looked down
at her long legs.
"Hey Nick," Kevin said as Nick sat down on the
couch
trying to pay attention.
"Hey Kevin, what's up?" Nick
said as he turned away from
Jessie so he could pay attention.
"We
are really busy tomorrow," Kevin said as Nick sighed.
"What are
we doing?"
"Photo shoot, two interviews, t.v. show appearance, basic
stuff.
I'll see you tomorrow at the hotel lobby at 6?" Kevin
said as
Nick nodded.
"Yeah, 6, got it," Nick said hanging up the phone and
putting
it back in his pocket. Jessie walked over to him and stood in
between
his legs.
"You know I used to carry a cell phone," she said as he
looked
up at her.
"Oh really?"
"Mmm Hmm, one just
like that," she said taking
his hands.
"Uh huh," he said
knowing she wasn't talking
about cell phones, but a boyfriend.
"That
phone just let me down too much, batteries would run
down or it would be at someone
else's house I knew," she said as he
got up. "But I'm thinking about
a new phone, one I hope won't let
me down, and won't scare Jason," she said
as he wrapped his
arms around her waist.
"Maybe you should think
about my phone," he said kissing her.
She was so soft, and her taste felt
so good,
he loved her, he could tell.
"Maybe," she whispered
kissing him again. He wanted to go
further, and wanted her to love him, but he
couldn't do
it too fast. He pulled away and looked at his watch.
"Look
at the time, it's real late, I've got a lot of things to
do tomorrow. One of
those things you have to deal with in
my profession," he said walking over
to the door.
"Yeah okay," she nodded sitting on the couch. He walked
back over to her and sat down next to her.
"I will come back, I promise,
Backstreet loser promise," he said as
she smiled. "Have I told you
you have a beautiful
smile?"
"Yeah you have," she said
as he smiled.
"You know what?"
"What?"
"I
love your smile," he said kissing her lightly and
getting up. "I'll
come by when I'm not busy tomorrow okay?"
"Kay, I'll be here,"
she said as he shut the door.
He walked down the stairs happily, jumping off
the last 3 stairs.
He took a taxi to the hotel and ran through the fan crowd,
running up to Brian's room to tell him the news.
"Brian! Hey B open
up!" Nick said pounding on his door.
Brian opened his door with his eyes
barely open and his hair
sticking up in all different places.
"What
are you doing it's 2 in the morning…" he said as his voice trailed
off.
Nick walked through happy and
content all over.
"Jessie likes me,
she likes me!" He said over and over until Brian shut the door.
"Okay
thanks for the wake-up call, now why did you have to
tell me this at 2 in the
morning huh?"
"No reason, I'm just fully awake and I wanted to tell
you my exciting news!"
"Okay, exciting, got ya, BYE!" Brian
said opening the door.
"You know I forgot how cranky you are when you
don't get
enough…" Brian slammed the door in his face, "Sleep."
Nick walked into his hotel room and tried to sleep.
He dreamt of her
that night, with a sly grin across his face
that couldn't rub off with soap,
he was happy again for
the first time in a long time and he missed that.
