Chapter 3
"Where are you going this early girl?" Krys asked as I stopped
dead
in my tracks. "Oh my God, you're wearing a dress!"
"So? Does
it look bad or something?" I asked looking down
at myself. I was wearing
a strapless forest green dress that
came up to my thighs. My hair crimped and
make-up on, my platform
shoes…I definitely looked different.
"No…it's
just weird. You look great actually!" She said hugging me as
I rolled
my eyes.
"Thanks Krys, I gotta get to class, I'll see you later,"
I said shutting
the door. I sat down on the steps and waited for Nick's car.
"Hey…Maranda?"
Nick asked as I walked down the stairs.
I hopped in the passenger's seat and
buckled up as Nick stared at me.
"What?" I asked.
"N…you're
different," he said in a scratchy voice.
"Just drive," I said
with a laugh.
~*~*~*~
Nick hadn't talked to me the whole way their,
but kept giving glances my way.
"Nick is that Maranda?" Brian asked
as he stopped dribbling the ball.
"Why does everyone ask me that? I'm
just in a damn dress," I said agitated.
"Meow! Frisky!" Brian
said as I grinned.
"Hey Brian," I said before giving him a hug.
"Maranda?"
A.J. asked as I turned around.
"Hey Bone," I said hugging him.
"A
dress does wonders for you," A.J. said as I smacked his stomach.
"OW!"
He whined as I sat down in a chair.
"So what are you doing here?"
Brian asked.
"Nick said he could dance, I'm here to laugh at him,"
I said with a grin.
"If it happens, and it won't!" Nick said angrily.
"Excuse
me," I said grabbing Nick. "What is your problem?"
"Nothing,
I'm fine," he said looking at me funny.
"Nick I know you, something's
wrong," I said saddened.
"I'm fine, go talk to them I'm going to
get something to drink,"
Nick said brushing me off.
"Nick please?
I thought we could tell each other everything," I said
sadly.
"Why
are you dressed like that?" He asked.
"Like what?"
"That!
Trying to impress someone here or something?"
"No I just…"
"Yes
you did, I took you here so you can get someone," he said angrily.
"You
are so out of line," I said with hurt in my eyes.
"Then tell me…what
the hell are you doing wearing this?"
"Nick, I'm outta here,"
I said as I stammered off.
"Maranda where are you going?" Brian
asked as I started to run.
I couldn't believe Nick said that, I wore it for
him…
~*~*~*~
"Maranda are you okay you haven't come out since
you
got home," Krystal asked sitting aside me on my bed.
"I'm fine,
I just got in a fight with Nick," I said angrily.
"What happened?"
"He
just assumed things that weren't true," I shrugged.
There was a knock on
the door as Krys got up.
"I'll get it," she said walking out of
my room. I walked over to
my door and locked it; I was in no mood for anyone.
"Maranda?
Can I talk to you?" Nick asked as I sighed.
"Go away, I'm trying
to impress someone!"
"Come on, I came here to apologize," Nick
said as I rolled my eyes.
"I don't want to see you right now Nick,"
I said truthfully. "You definitely
don't know me."
"Fine,
I will get to you somehow, I got connections!" He said as I grinned.
~*~*~*~
"I'm
going to go to class, I'll see you later Krys," I said shutting the
door
and walking down the stairs.
"Long time no see Caisse," Nick said
as I jumped. I turned around to see
him sitting on his truck.
"I'm
going to be late for class," I said taking the lock of my bicycle.
"Want
a ride?"
"Not from you," I said as I started riding off.
"I'll
follow you!" Nick said as I stopped.
"Fine Carter, you're sorry
okay?" I said sitting next to him.
"You looked so beautiful today,
and I made you feel like crap for doing it,"
Nick said with a sigh.
"You
thought I looked beautiful?" I asked with a grin.
"Well…yeah,"
he said scratching his head nervously.
"You did hurt my feelings,"
I said as he sighed.
"I'm sowwy, Nick so sowwy," Nick said with
a pouted lip.
"I'll get over it, I gotta get to class," I said hopping
off the back of his truck.
"A ride for the beautiful lady?" He
asked as I shook my head.
"I need the exercise, go up and see Krys for
a while she probably
will thank me later," I said getting back on my bike.
"See
ya Caisse," Nick said as I rode off.
~*~*~*~
"Class dismissed!"
Professor Nichols said as I packed
up. When I got home I saw Nick's truck in
the parking lot.
"Hey guys I'm home!" I yelled as I looked at them.
"Hi."
"Hi," the both said angrily.
"What's
going on?" I asked putting my bag down.
"Just go Maranda, I'll
tell you later," Nick said as Krystal shook
her head.
"You will
NOT tell her later, it's none of her business!"
"I tell her everything,
it's her business," Nick said as I sighed.
I shut my door and listened
as they yelled at each other.
Boomer jumped up on my bed as I pet him nervously.
"They
never fight," I said aloud to Boomer. I heard Krystal's
door slam as Nick
came to my room. "What's wrong Nick?" I asked
concerned.
"We're
still on for Thursday right?" He asked bluntly.
"Um…I guess,"
I said as Nick nodded.
"See you then, I'll call you," Nick said
slamming my door as
I jumped. I got up and knocked on Krys' door.
"Krys?"
I asked.
"Go away!" She screamed.
"Can't you tell
me what happened?" I asked as I heard her sobs.
"Just go okay?
I…you don't want to know," Krystal said as I sighed.
~*~*~*~
That
night I decided to stay in my room. I called Nick and
paged him dozen's of times
but he wouldn't talk to me.
I prayed nothing serious happened.
"I'm
going to bed," I said to Krystal's door.
"Goodnight," she said
sniffing.
"Goodnight Krys," I said shutting my door. I pulled out
my
poem book and wrote…
What causes anger?
Hate, jealousy, envy?
I've
never known,
I've never shown.
Anger leads to suffering,
Pain, and sadness.
I
was so stuck on this poem, I couldn't write. My two best friends
were suffering
and I didn't know how to help but sit and be
alone. I had to talk to Nick about
it on Thursday, I had to…
