(from MTV) "Shame", I've heard, is about an ex g/f giving all his clothes to good will. -Angel17256@aol.com ================================ *Funny How it Comes to Pass* Concert Reviews ================================ ~Matchbox 20 concert experiences~ On the chilly day of March 20, nothing could have been any better. After all, I was going to see matchbox 20 (my absolute fave of course) for the second time at Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. We had all known that MTV was going to be there taping for a ten spot show, so we were all jumping at the chance to be on national television. The show was scheduled to start at 8:45 pm, so we headed on over to Hammerstein at about 6:45 or so. After an hour of waiting outside with all of the anticipation, they finally let us in. They had informed us that no cameras were gonna be allowed, but i couldn't miss the opportunity to take pics of this beautiful band!! So, I stuck it down my pants (hee hee). Ahh, as soon as I stepped inside, i made a mad dash towards the front. I quickly ended up in the front row of the general admission concert, in perfect view of where Adam was going to stand.......(skip the opening band)..........The lights are turned low, and a screeen is lowered in front of us. Everyone watches waiting for what is going to happen next. Finally, the black curtain is raised, the screen lifted, and the hotties of matchbox 20 open up with "Busted." They are all looking particularly fine that night - Rob had on all black, a buttoned shirt with the top 3 open; Kyle sported a nice (tight) white shirt and black pants and boots; and Adam wore a red shirt with a black sheer shirt over it. I couldn't really tell what Brian and Paul were wearing, but they looked great too! The show continues and everything is perfect. Rob hits every note. Kyle and Adam are really into their guitars. Paul is roaming on stage and Brian is excellent. And then "Push" comes on. If the audience could have gotten any wilder than they already were, we would have. The crowd knew every word and sang along perfectly. During this song, I was directly singing to Adam, since he was right in front of me, and after awhile, he started singing back in my direction too. It was awesome! A few times he came towards where I was standing and would lean over and sing to this girl 2 people over. I was so mad, why couldn't he come over to me? The main part of the show ends and the band returns for an encore. "You and I and I," "Time After Time," and "mercy, Mercy, Me," are among the tunes played. And now for their final selection of the night, "Long Day." The crowd went wild. Everyone was getting really into it and I was so sad that it was almost over. But, then the magical moment. Just as the song was about to end, Adam made one last stop at our little section of the stage. He looked at us , slapped our hands, and even sang to us. As he finished the last chord of the concert, he leaned over and handed his guitar pic directly to me!!!!!!!!!!! he blew me a kiss and the band exited. And, the whole time, MTV was getting a close up of this momentous occasion!!!!!! I went screaming through the streets of the city "I love Adam!!! I love Adam!!!!" definitly one of the best moments of my life! -MCKELLY@compuserve.com Since you asked us for any reviews, I'd thought I'd tell you about the Boston concert March 21st. They played for about an hour and 15 minutes and they sounded fantastic live, from the third row! They played all the songs from their album, opening with "Busted" and closing with "Long Day". They also played a new one called "Heavy" and they sang "Mercy, Mercy Me". What was disappointing was that when Rob talked to the audience the most was when they were having problems with the microphone so we had no idea what he was saying to us. He finally realized it and said, "You guys were trying to tell me 'Rob, we can't fucking hear you'". So it was pretty funny. I wished he would have "talked" to us more. He didn't introduce the whole band. He thanked us several times for venturing out in the middle of a snow storm. -Laurel laurelgb@juno.com Hi there! I went to a concert on March 8th in Chicago at the Aragon Ballroom. It was Fantastic!!!! First Cool for August opened up for matchbox20. They were really good and really connected with the audience. Gordon (the lead singer of CFA) even jumped into the middle of the crowd and got on someones shoulders while he was singing. It was cool. Then in the middle of one of their songs, I think it was called "Trials" Rob came out and jumped into Gordon't arms. It was so awesome, the crowd was going wild and Rob finished singing the song with them. Then he left again. After CFA it seemed like forever until the guys came on, but finally a movie screen dropped down and there were scenes of cars and empty streets and there was the sound of a telephone ringing and static. The whole place was dark except for the screen and all of the sudden the lights flash on and there is the guys of matchbox20 in their spots. They started off the concert with "busted". After that was "Argue". Then Rob stopped to get a drink of water and he said "I'm feeling a little Fiesty this evenin'!!!" Everyone started screaming it was just so great. I don't remember the order of the songs after that, but in the middle of the concert the guys left the stage and the movie screen came down again. This time it said stuff like "music is free choice" and things about expressing yourself. Rob then walked out with his Elvis guitar and sang "Mercy, Mercy Me", "Hang", and "Time After Time" w/ Kyle and Gordon. They also sang "You &I &I" , a new song Rob said they had just finished earlier in the week, and "Tired". During 'Tired' I was singing along cause I know the words and the people in front of me kept looking at me like 'you know this song??'. Then Rob looked right at me and gave me this amazed look and smiled. I sure showed the people in front of me! But anyway then the night ended with "Long Day". The whole concert was so great, it's unbelieveable how much emotion the guys perform with. They really get the crowd going and sounded just as wonderful (if not better) than on the cd...I hope I get to see them again soon!! If anyone ever gets the chance to go...You should! Thanks for reading all this~ -Charli CNLuvsMB20@aol.com Okay l went to a Matchbox 20 concert on March 21st in Boston at the Orpheum Theatre. lt was me, my friend Tara, my cousin and my father. We arrived kind of early so when the usher showed us our seats the place was empty so we chatted with the usher for a little. Me and Tara had made shirts for the concert that said all the guys names and stuff. lt turned out that the weather was bad that day so the usher told us that if he found any empty seats that were closer that he would let us sit there. The place started to fill up quite fast so l did not think that we would get any closer....but that was fine with me. As long as l was there right!! So anyway while me and Tara went to get something to drink l just came out and said, "How cool would it be if l threw my shirt on stage?" l said this cause l am a HUGE Rob fan and l had l love Rob written in huge letters on my shirt. And we started laughing about it. So the concert started. They opened with ''Busted'' and ''Argue''. But half way through ''Argue'' the usher guy cam back and said he found some seats and he said, ''You are gonna like these!!'' lt turns out that they definately were AWESOME seats. l mean its not like they were front row or anything but still they were great!! We were in the first row where it started to go up and l was excited and at this point l was crying SO hard!! l was seriously like the happiest person alive!! So me, Tara and this girl we sat next to were dancing around screaming our heads off!! Then 3a.m. came on and when it was over l yelled to Tara, ''Lets throw our shirts!!''. So we took them off (yes we had shirts under), tied a knot and threw them on stage!! My friends landed near Kyle and someone from the back came out and got it but mine landed kind of near Rob. When he saw them hit the floor his exact words were, ''OH SHIT!!'' He picked my shirt up and layed it on the back where the drums were!! We were screaming really hard so maybe he would have noticed that we were the ones who threw them but everyone else was screaming too so there was no way he would hear us. But later on in the show we were screaming and he looked up at us and smiled and gave us the cutest look!! lt was great!! Definately a night l will rememer forever!! Even if l did not meet him yet.......!! -Jamie4420@aol.com I went to the New York concert on March 20th in New York and it rocked! MTV was there, and they recorded that concert for Live at the 10 spot which is on April 10th or something. That's cool cuz I get to have a copy of the show I saw! Well, Rob was excellent, of course. He basically sang the songs in the same way as the cd, which is good cuz I hate it when singers perform it completely different. They also sand "Tired" from Tabitha's Secret, "you and I and I", "mercy mercy me", and "Time after Time". I'm a little mad at Rob right now, cuz I had backstage passes, and he never came out. He just sat somewhere in his dressing room I guess. Who knows. A couple of the other guys did come out, I didn't find out who. I didn't meet them cuz I had already left. I think they finally came out after 1am. I waited there for so long!! Well, you can only imagine how heartbroken I was, but maybe there will be another chance someday!! -RoBSBCaTx@aol.com The show they played in Geneseo, NY March 15th was wicked rad. Some friends ( hi Jon, Beth, and Kristen!) and I went on a little road trip from Syracuse. Of course we got there late because Beth had to stop at McDonald's, and we missed part of the opening act. I don't remember the guys name, but he was pretty good. We sttod behind some guys while we were waiting for MB20 to start, who were trying to stump me with Rob trivia, but they lost big time. Then MB20 got going, and I loved it. I was so excited, even though this was my 4th time seeing them. They did all the usual songs, and my favorite non-album songs, namely Tired, You and I and I, and Dear Joan (which Beth and I obnoxiously sung along with). We tried to meet them after to make my streak 4 for 4, but the security guards were not worth dealing with, and damn, it was cold. You know it's bad when you wear the souvenier shirt for warmth. Rob was looking good as always (great hair!!) and all I need to say about him is roar (right Beth?) -AMHoney3@aol.com Saturday, March 14th, 1998 - Akron, Ohio JAR Arena...... AHHHHHHHH!!!!! This was the BEST concert I have EVER been to!! It was a thousand times better than the last one of theres!!! We (me and my sister and my dad) got to the JAR at 5:30 and waited in line until 7 when doors opened. Everyone rushed inside. Then we got to the auditorium part and had to wait another hour before that David Garza guy came out. This guy thought he had a great butt because he kept showing it to us! Anyway...he played for about 45 minutes and then they started setting up for the guys!! It took them (what seemed like) FOREVER to get them setup!! But all of a sudden it went pitch black and a little movie screen came down and they showed a little movie (like 2 minutes) of cars and a phone booth and then a countdown began.....6......5......4......3.....2......1!!! I started SCREAMING when I seen it get to 5 and then the lights came on and they started with Busted (as always)!!! Rob was wearing a see through kinda blue button shirt with black pants (but not the leather ones =( lol). Adam was wearing...ummm...i can't remember his shirt but he had on some awesome green crushed velvet pants!! He looked GOOD!!!! And Kyle was wearing a snake skin shirt and belt with some black (I think) pants with these little diamonds on them. But it didn't exactlmathishirt. Brian was wearing a striped shirt and black pants. And i couldn't see paul. But I could see that he was wearing this cute little hat. And NO shoes!!! It was the CUTEST thing I had EVER seen!! But they closed with Push.....and of course the crowd went INSANE!!! Rob and Kyle came back out and sang "Time after Time"......Rob sounded sooooooo good!!!! Then they sang "Hang"...wich sounded REALLY good!! Then they sang "Heavy"....wich was one of there new songs...and it sounded good! I liked it!! And they ended with "Long Day"....in wich Rob kinda changed the words to a little bit.....but it still sounded good!! =) Then it was over and they made us all go out side! =P It was about 10 degrees (if that). After a while Kyle came out with his parents and everyone (about 20 people or so) gathered around and got his autograph. I got a picture with him and my sister and dad got his autograph. It was kinda funny.....after he signed my sisters ticket she goes "thank you very much" and Kyle says "no problem sweetie". My sister (who's 13) was freaking out!! She thought it was sooooooo great that KYLE called her sweetie!! =) So after kyle signed everyone's stuff and took all the pics he went onto the bus and hung out with his parents. After that I met Meera (hi meers!! =))....and then we waited for the other 4 to come out. The one bus kinda pulled away and me and Meera started following it =). And what do ya know...there they were!! I got 2 pics of Rob signing autographs. He only signed like 4 things! My sister being one of the lucky ones!! But the poor guy looked absolutely exhausted!! Then I went and snapped a quick picture of Adam signing some autographs. After that I went up to Paul and asked him for a picture......and just as he was about to put his arm around me for the pic...some girl grabbed his other arm and swung him around and stuck her ugly face in his and got a pic!! =P i was sooooo pissed off that i just walked away =( . And after that Adam was already walking away to! So all I could do was just stand there and look and be sad. Cause I had talked to Adam earlier and he promised me a pic. So there he was walking away....=(. Then, all of a sudden my dad goes...."Hey adam, what about Rush300?" And I do remember the look on Adam's face when he turned and goes......"Rush300....yea! where is she??" it was a look I will NEVER forget! All I could do was just stand there...my mouth went dry and I couldn't move!! You know what i mean?? And my dad goes "she's right there" and pointed to me. And Adam comes up and gives me a hug and asks how i was doing and I said good and I asked him how he was and he said good. And my dad asked if he could get our pic and Adam said "of course!!" So I got my pic with him. And I was starting to snap out of my little panick attack transe of Adam remembering who i was! And I introduced him to my sister and he goes "come here sweetie i gotta give you a hug "...and he gave my sister a hug and shook my dad's hand. And then as he was walking twards the bus he looks back at me and goes "I'll write (email) ya soon sweetie!" I was like.....ahhhhhhhhhh!!! I love this guy!! =) So i was happy cause i got my pic with kyle and adam.....and my sister was happy cause kyle and adam called her "sweetie", Adam hugged her AND she got Rob's autograph!! =) Rob looked sooo tired. well....they all looked tired! =) They put on an awsome show!! And the crowd wasn't violent AT ALL (at least not as violent as last time)!! Wich made me VERY happy!!! No crowd surfing or anything. My throat was KILLING me....all that screaming!! I was third row from the front right in front of Rob! The ONLY bad thing about the concert was.......some IDIOT who was standing behind me knew ALL the words to the songs and sang them all in his adolesent voice that made me cringe!!! I wanted to HIT him and put him out of his misery!! But oh well. =) It was the BEST ever and I had a GREAT time!! ~Lesia Rush300@aol.com I met Kyle about 2 weeks ago at the Bethlehem concert. I got his autograph and a pic with him. I went to the concert alone because all my friends are sick of MB20 because that is all I listen to and most of them have been to at least one concert-I have been to 3. I waited beside the tour busses for about an hour. Right when I was about to give up, I decided to get out of the car and get a little closer. I saw Kyle walk out of the back door toward the bus and yelled his name, but he kept going. Thank God the bus was locked and he was pounding on the door. He came towards me-there were 3 other girls on top of the hill, but they didn't folow me-and he said "shhh....I don't want a lot of people here" He pointed towards the front of the busses where about 25 people were standing. He said "Sneak down here" I did-it was pouring. I shook his hand and he said "Hi I'm Kyle" I said "I know, you are my favorite." then he gave me his autograph and I got a pic with him. The security guy kept telling me I was pushing my luck. I didn't care. Kyle's awesome-he said he would have stayed there to talk to me, but since it was raining he couldn't get sick. It was like a dream come true for me. -Sarah Lauch lauc2838@kutztown.edu I want to tell everyone that i went to the 3-18 concert in bethlehem pa and it was a blasssssssttttttt! I got to meet rob! well, not meet him, but i got a pic and his autograph (on my cd). in the pic his arm is around me and my head is like, on his shoulder. it was so wonderful. my friend couldnt get the camera to work, so rob was like, helping her do it and we had to try like, 3 times. which meant i was standing with rob for quite a while. even though i wish it was much longer! it all happened when we were waiting on line to get into the venue and some girl exclaimed. "he gave me a birthday kiss!" and we saw people walking away with signed stuff. my friend and i were like, o my god rob thomas is like, 5 ft away! we flipped. then we ran over there and shoved our way thru for some pics. i got a couple snapshots of rob signing stuff for other people too. he was soooo sweet when we met him...esp. since we were so nervous and excited that we couldnt work the freakin' camera! The concert itself was great, despite the fact that my seats werent that great. they opened up with busted as usual and it was awesome (as usual again). the best was when rob was like, "This one goes out-with all my heart-to the bitch that gave all my stuff to Good Will" when he was introducing shame. ahhhhhh the concert was just soooooo great. someone was passing around a huge banner to sign that they gave to rob while he was on stage. it was so cool-rob took it and said thank you and stuff then put it over his shoulders and sang with it on. well, i dont want to have an endless story here, so if u wanna hear more, then e-mail me or im me and i'll tell you ALL my stories! :-) -Jessie Matchstik2@aol.com Date: Friday 17 1998 Venue: Palais Theatre, Melbourne Support Act: The Feelers This was the first time I've seen mb20 live and it was fantastic. I didn't get to meet them or anything but I had a great time, and I can't wait for them to come back to Oz. I was upstairs in "the lounge" so I wasn't really close to the stage, but I had a good view. The support played for about half an hour, then there was a 20 minute wait and the crowd started getting restless. finally the lights went down and this big movie screen on the stage started showing shots of wrecked cars (??) and the crowd began counting down to the start of the show. Then the screen came up and mb 20 were behind it. Rob, Kyle and Adam ran up to the microphones and Rob started to sing "busted". They played through all the songs on the album, plus Tired, Heavy, and covers of Time After Time and Mercy, Mercy Me, and finished up with Long Day. Rob was gorgeous singing Time After Time, and Kyle was soooooo cute when he sang. The seats were sold out (of course) Everyone sang along to just about every song, and the crowd went wild whenever a new song started, especially Push, 3am, Long Day and Real World. They played for about an hour and 20 minutes, but it was over way too soon. After seeing them live, I have to say I'm even more obsessed with the guys than I was before. :) Like I said before, can't wait for them to come back here with a new album!! -Eleanor chapmang@ocean.com.au
