Concert Reviews

~Matchbox 20 concert experiences (con't)~
I'd just like to start with about two months ago if I was asked if I like Matchbox 20 I'd say yeah they're great musicians, it's an awesome cd but when asked for each band members name I wouldn't have a clue... But due to a good friend and her obsession with the band, my experiences have since left me with a rather large infactuation with the lads. This review's from awhile ago but it's a review all the same....
Ok, Wednesday 15th April, My friend Beth rings me, to tell me that she's sussed out that MB20 should be arriving just before four. So i get my cd and my camera prepared in hope to meet them when they arrive. Rather hyped we arrive at the airport and wait at the wrong terminal for like 20 minutes, however undeterred we make our way to the other terminal. Slightly distracted at this time, I'm more worried with the luggage trolleys than scanning the faces of the people coming through the terminal. Then Beth interrupts my thoughts with a small, "It's them!" So we make our way up to the rather forlorn looking Rob clutching onto a small koala teddy, in hope for his autograph and a photo. Rob being the great person he is, greeted us with a huge smile and was happy to oblige. I asked him if the koala was a present but he informed me that he'd bought it and it was his new travelling companion...
After a quick chat to Rob we make our way over to Kyle, who thanked us for coming to meet him and I had a short convo with him about South Park, while him and some one who was with the band were doing their Mr Hanky, "Howdy Ho..." he made me laugh so much, unfortunately in my photo's he was doing the most serious faces possible...
Paul also greeted us rather cheerfully and said the gig they'd done in Perth was great and was happy to be in Adelaide cos he hadn't been here before. Well me being me, of all days today I decided to wear my platforms making Paul look rather short. Although in the photo, he was like on tip toes and I'm full bending so it gives the illusion that he is taller than me. (go figure...)
Unfortunately we had talked to them for a bit long that we were unable to get Brian's autograph or photos but we managed to get to Adam while he was looking for his bags to come through...
As if this wasn't great enough on the way out Rob practically yells to us "Seeya Beth and Sindy". So amazing, and all the others said bye and waved, cept Brian who mysteriously dissapered.
16th April 1998 We (me, Beth and Kimberley) got up at like 7:30 in hope to catch them at an early interview only to find out it was prerecorded! Not impressed!!!!! However we spent the day shopping and totally hyped in prepare for the great concert we were to be blown away by.
At approximately 3 o'clock we went to the radio station again. Pulling up a great song came on the radio, and I decided I'd get out of the car and start dancing. Next thing I know Kyle and Paul are pulling up behind us. ( I don't think they saw my performance at least they didn't say anything maybe they just chose to ignore it..) Kyle gets outta their car and says to us "I believe we've met before" and he asked the real obvious question of "what are you guys doing here?" well i went with tthe stupid response of "stalking you of course" and he just laughed, and told paul. we were all just talking like we were mates or something cos they remembered us. We had a conversation about Kim's car (and if she was sentimental she wouldn't be washing that car again cos Paul touched it...) but then they had to go in for their interview. Their were like about 10 other fans on the steps but they only talked to us before they went in. After the interview we had another photo with Paul and a short chat. Everyone wanted to talk to Kyle so we were content with Paul and his antics. He was so cute just jumping on the steps.
Straight from there we went to The Entertainment Center to wait in line. We had to wait til approximately 7 til they opened the doors but due to the fact we were in the front row on the barrier, in between where Kyle and Rob were standing the wait was well worth it...
The concert was amazing, it was GREAT! Even the support act were good.
My best part of the gig was when Rob did "Time After Time" and then Kyle joined in. I so love that song! But each song was as great as another. It was AWESOME! Loved it! Beth ended up getting Kyle's pick and two of the girls we had been talking to in the line had Paul's drumsticks. It was so great!!!
It would have to be one of the most amazing concerts ever, right up there. Matchbox 20 surely know how to put on a good show. I just hope I don't have to wait too long before they come back to Australia.

This is my concert review from February 27th, 1998. My friend Erin and I arrived at Mercer Arena in Seattle at around 6:30, and the concert was to begin at 8. Erin, my little brother Matt, his friend Ben and I were all so excited for the concert to start, we couldn't sit still in our seats. (Erin and I are always hyper, so this wasn't much of a change.) I was wearing jeans and a light blue Adidas shirt, Erin was wearing jeans and a striped velour shirt, Matt was wearing jeans and his Tommy Hilfiger shirt, and Ben was wearing jeans and a Tommy shirt. We were sitting and playing 20 Questions and stuff, because, unfortunately, we didn't have backstage passes, however cool that might have been. :) At about 8:10, Cool for August started their set with "Don't Wanna Be Here." They sounded great. They continued to play all of the songs on their album, plus "Fast Car" by Tracy Chapman. (The weird thing about that was, when my parents picked us up, my mom was scanning the radio for "Fast Car." She didn't even know that CFA had played it.) After Cool for August's set, I went down and bought their CD, because if they sounded anything like they just did, the CD would kick ass. (And it does. I encourage all of you to go out and buy it!) Cool for August played until about 8:45, and then no one was on. We were waiting and waiting for MB20, and it seemed the rest of the crowd was too. They were cleaning the stage up, and they even vacuumed it!! We thought that was pretty weird... At around 9:15, MB20 came out, and opened with "Busted." It scared me and Erin because Rob had a voice changer, and we've seen "Scream" wayyyy too many times! They proceeded to play the rest of the songs from YOSLY and "Happy," "Tired," "You and I and I," "Mercy Mercy Me," and "Time after Time." It was the best concert. Someone threw a hot dog on stage, and Rob goes, "What the f*ck is this? A hot dog? What kind of asshole goes to a concert and throws a hotdog on stage?" He seemed to be genuinely enjoying himself, and not just doing another show. They all seemed to be really having fun. In the last 15 minutes of the show, Rob and a few people came out on stage and started singing that song, "Mama Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys." My brother and Ben were gone because they thought it was over (the lights had turned back on for 5 minutes or so) and Ben wanted a T-shirt. They missed an incredible performance. After that, everyone left the stage, and we were screaming, "MATCHBOX 20!" over and over. Everyone was. We wanted an encore. And, 10 minutes or so later, they came back on and did "Long Day," which they hadn't done before. They were absolutely great. Someday when I go to another one of their concerts, I'd love to meet them.

City/State: Seattle, WA
Venue: Mercer Arena
We (8 of us) arrived at the venue pretty late, around 7:30 ... and the show was to start at 8 p.m. Three of us had reserved seats (they sucked but a decent view of the stage) and everyone else had either general admission or they snuck down at the GA area. I could see my friends down there pretty well ... it was kinda like "Where's Waldo".
Anyway, the show started ... Cool For August kicked ass. And I thought the lead singer was a groovy dancer. Highlight of their show was when the singer said, "Catch me." and then he jumped into the crowd ... from where I was sitting, didn't seem like anyone caught him! Well, I'm sure he was caught but when I climbed back onstage, he looked like he was in pain cuz he sang the rest of the song sitting onstage. Another highlight was when Rob came out and sang a song with CFA.
Now, this was the first MB20 show I've ever been to, so it was damn exciting when they hit the stage. The first song they sang ... I remember seeing a video screen come down ... so I'm guessing that the first song was "Busted". Everyone down at GA were fucking wild. My boyfriend (now my ex) and his friend were the only ones body surfing ... and my other friends stood there being kicked in the face and whatever.
The exciting part of MB20's set was when Adam Duritz of Counting Crows came out to sing with Rob. It was so bad ass, the crowd went hella wild! Sorry to say, but I don't remember what song they sang together.
The thing that cracked me up the most was before they were gonna start "Push", someone from the crowd threw a hotdog onstage and Rob said, "What the fuck is that smell? Smells like roast beef for some shit like that! Who fuckin' threw that?" It was damn funny.
The best part of MB20's show was the end ... and what a way to end a MB20 concert. Rob sang "Long Day" with Adam Duritz (yes, he came back out again) and in the middle of the song, they added some lyrics about the rain in Seattle. And no, it doesn't *always* rain in Seattle, ya got that? It kicked hella ass!

One night, me and my buds, Jenn and Jen, were chillin on Route 81 North from Marcellus, NY, to Utica to go see the Matchbox 20 concert, or as I usually refer to their concerts, Robfest. For me this was Robfest V (as in 5), but I was still excited about it all the same. The opening act was some girl that we didn't pay much attention to because we were trying to get this massive wad of gum out of Jenn's hair that some fricken comedian decided to throw up front. What I heard of her though was pretty good. Anyway, on to Rob... They had the same kickin' AudioVisual thing that they had going the last time I saw them, which was rad, and they started out with Bustedlike they usually do. I'm lovin the whole thing, for the 5th time of course : ). They did the Fleetwood Mac song that they covered for the Rumours tribute album, Tired, You and I and I, You Can't Always Get What You Want, and another *new to me* song, about a girl named Heather who was watching Rob sleep, and wondering what he was dreaming and she realized that she didn't care. Very nice song...my crusade to find this song will be just as strong as the one to find Dear Joan after the first time I heard it (Nov. 8th). Afterwards the Jenn's and I were chilling by the bus with a horde of other fans when they came out and did their thing (the Robster kissed my cheek) and I got Paul's and Adam's autographs as well. Very exciting night for us "J" ladies.
Adios all:

I finally saw Matchbox in concert! It was on June 3 at Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo, MI. My friend Amanda and I had been waiting for the concert for about 3 months and finally it was time. The show started at 8 and we got there at 6:45. It was a GA show and we wanted to be sure to get good seats. Well we did - second row directly in front of Kyle! ok I'm going to skip the opening act. They were good but no Matchbox 20! So, this screen came down, they had this film with cars and pay phones and weird things like that. Then this black curtain fell down and there were the guys! The place went nuts! They opened with "Busted", then "Argue" and "Girl Like That" and the rest of the songs. They did a few more like "Tired" which I absolutely love, "Heavy" and "You and I and I." The guys did great! It was the best show I had ever been to. Kyle was 10 feet away, Rob was 15 feet away and Adam and Brian would wander over to our side once in a while. A couple times Rob came directly over to where we were and sang from there. He was only like 5 feet away!! We were freaking out. After "Long Day" the lights came on and we left. Amanda and I didn't want to leave yet so I said lets go wait by the busses. (thanks to the Zine and the stories of people doing that. Otherwise I never would have thought of it!)
We went over and camped out with a few of the people that were ther (hi Sarah, Kia, Kristen and Chris!). The security, of course kept telling us to go away but we didn't. Amanda and I were talking with this one guard who was really nice. It was about 1:15am and we were getting tired. All of a sudden Amanda said "oh my God." I looked over and Rob was standing by the buses. I made eye contact with him and then I waved to him. He waved back! I called out "well are you going to come and talk to us or not?" He started laughing and nodded his head. Then he came walking towards us! I was freaking out! We got his autograph, and he hugged me! Yes you heard right ROB THOMAS hugged me! It was awesome! After Amanda got her autograph she said you guys sure did make it worth the drive down here. He asked us where we were from and we told him, then he asked what kind of a drive it was. I told him it was about 3 1\2 miles. Amanda said you mean hours. I was like oh yeah, 3 1\2 hours. Rob started laughing, then, Oh my God! He put his hand on my shoulder, kind of pulled me in closer and said "3 1\2 miles, 3 1\2 hours, there's a big difference." His face was six inches in front of mine! I was dying!! Then I got a picture with him and moved on to the rest of the band. Let me tell you, my knees were shaking! We got autographs from Paul and Kyle but I ran out of film and didn't get any pictures of them but that's ok. I'm going again in August so I'll get some then!

*Keep This Hat of Broken Dreams*
Dreams
================================
~Your MB20 dreams. No matter how bizarre...~
I also had a dream about the guys at least about one of the guys! Well it was VERY short, BUT it all started when I was in a restaurant with my family and guess who was our waiter!! YESS it was PAUL!! He was busy serving other people, and didn't come to our table much! And the next thing I know is that he comes over and SINGS Happy Birthday To ME!!! He sounded GREAT!! and the next thing I know I woke up in the middle of the night!!
~Mitzi - ZNCS68A@prodigy.com
I've had a lot of dreams about matchbox 20...mainly Rob......some were really bizarre...others were just cool. In the latest dream, I got to meet Rob and he autographed stuff for me, but it was weird because I was in a place (it looked kinda like my school) and all of a sudden I looked outside and saw Rob..and there were a few people around him (but not talking to him!!!)..I went out and I said, "I love you". He smiled and laughed and then signed my yearbook twice (I have no clue why I asked him to sign that.) One of my other dreams about Rob was really weird. I was at a Barenaked Ladies concert and I couldn't even see the stage. Then, my friend handed me a tape and we went somewhere to watch it. When I popped the tape in the VCR, it was so weird! Rob was in a car commercial! He was a used car salesman or something and he was wearing a plaid outfit! (But for some reason, every time I watched the tape, he was wearing a different outfit!) I know they were weird, but I thought you might wanna hear about my dreams of Rob. By the way, if you wanna dream about matchbox 20, try listening to their CD right before you go to bed and then think about them as you fall asleep....I sometimes dream about them when I think about them before I go to bed.....(but I think about them every night).....and for some reason, I only remember dreams I have about matchbox 20!
-NicTwenty@aol.com
ROTFL, the dream I had last night was *REALLY* weird.. I think it's my
weirdest yet! Here goes:
It was near Christmas-time and I was on this boat that was docked near the Wegman's grocery store. There was a t.v. on board and I was watching it. It looked a lot like the "Push" video that I was watching, but it was only Rob's face and he was talking to me or something through the t.v. Whatever he was saying, his mouth was going really fast, like when you fast-forward a videotape. Then Mr. Burns and Mr. Smithers (from "The Simpsons") come on and Mr. Burns starts saying how he loves Rob!!! I yelled at him and said "NO!! Rob's MINE!!" and Mr. Burns got all mad. Then we all got off the boat and went shopping in the mall for Christmas presents. ROTFLMHO, I told you it was weird!!
- Amber - winn1@spectra.net
okay, I had a dream about Matchbox 20 once..it was kind of weird, but here it goes. One day, Matchbox 20 came to my school to do a concert, and I was so happy, because I never even thought I'd see them anywhere. Anyway, they only played two songs, and I was so mad, because I didn't know either of the songs they played! But I was still happy, because you know, it's Matchbox 20 at your school. So after the concert, I went and got into my car, and was about to drive away, when I saw Rob talking to my math teacher. It looked like she was flirting with him, and I just couldn't have that, so I drove over to where they were standing and started asking my math teacher about some homework we had, pretending I didn't see Rob. After she was done telling me about it, I looked over and pretended to be surprised that Rob was just standing there. So we just sat there for a second and she said, "Oh! Let me introduce you! This is Rob Thomas." And I jumped out of the car and grabbed his hand and said, "Can I just say, I love your music? I get so much out of it everytime I hear it-" Then he interrupted me and said, "Yeah, well, maybe that's because you don't really listen to the words and blah blah blah..." He kept going on until I was so bored I woke up. I just hope he's not like that in person.

You said you wanted contributions, so here's my dream about Kyle. I was at a party with Brian and Adam and a ton of other people. I was standing by this yellowed fridge and then Brian grabbed my elbow and said, "Kyle is outside fishing off a houseboat. You wanna go see him?" Of course I said yes. So I walked out there, and Kyle was sitting on a bench, wearing the shirt he wore in the "Push" video. I went out there and was just babbling to him, but he wasn't answering me. So I finally went back into the house, really dejected, and Brian was being all sweet and comforting. I gave him a kiss on the cheek and said, "Thanks, Pookie. I'm gonna go write him a letter." So I went upstairs and typed out this letter on a typewriter to Kyle. I guess the mail came every hour or something, because about an hour later, Kyle came in, wrapped his arms around my waist, and whispered, "I'm sorry I didn't talk to you. I didn't know it meant that much to you." So we went back out to the houseboat and talked for, like, 3 hours, and then he said he had to go. We walked back into the house and he quickly ran away. He came back in 5 minutes and was carrying one of those wrist-pad things you have on a mouse-pad. It was blue and yellow swirly, and really warm. He wrapped it around my neck, kissed me on the cheek, and then vanished. Then I was in a Resident Inn hotel room with Paul (don't EVEN think it!), and then there was this mask at about face level, and it was porcelain and blue. It had black wiry hair and was singing, "I must be getting older because I look younger, and I must be getting younger because I look older." Paul and I looked at each other, and then were screaming down the side of Space Mountain. Then I woke up.... Bizarre, huh?

Hey wassup ya'll... I was just remembering this girl's story i read while listening to "Push". The girl was in the car with her mom and the radio station had "Push" on. So in the verse where it says "and i dont know why you couldnt just stay with me", her mom goes, "why did he say that?!". The girl goes what? And her mom says "he said, i don't know why your cookies are stale". She laughs and so does her mom when she finds out what he really says. When you listen to it, it does sound like it too...

When I first got to Paul's Place, the image on the main page was the first thing to shock me! Its a completely original, and really cool collage of Paul Pics... Then when I went to the Pics page - I found out that Trinette has almost 50 pics of Paul!! She has tons of pics ranging from ones from magazines, some of the common ones, some with all the band, and most of them, which is the cool part, are fan pics! They're Paul with fans and they are the best pics out of them all! Next is the Facts section - Trinette has a lot of information all about Paul there as well! The Tour section is up to date with most of the mb20 tour dates. The sounds and videos section are great too! She has a LOT of sounds and also the first 3 mb20 videos for your viewing pleasure. Also, being the smart one she is, Trinette has a seperate page for all the webrings that the site is associated with, just so the main page isn't cluttered. All in all, this is a great site and we recommend it for all of you Paul lovers out there!!! Great job Trinette!
