03-04-99 Thor leaves Sebring to go to Springer Mountain in Georgia to start his hike on Sunday March 7th.
03-08-99 Started hiking today, he had to delay his hike for a day but everything is ok.

03-14-99 I talked to Thor today. He is staying at a hotel in the town of Helen tonight. He is doing good and says that the weather is terrible it is cold and overcast. He hiked 17 miles yesterday in the rain and the temperature was around 65.
03-20-99 Thor called today and left a message on the answering machine. He reached Winding Star Gap in North Carolina, he also reached the 100 mile mark today. To listen to his answering machine message click here!
03-23-99 Thor is in Wesser, NC and is staying in a hotel. He is hiking with another person by the trail name of "Ironhorse" they both seem to have the same pace and have been hiking together for about 3 days now. He is expected to reach Fontana Dam this Friday or Saturday. Thor is averaging about 12 miles per day.
03-26-99 Thor is at Fontana Dam! He is staying at the campground at the base of the dam tonight and tomorrow night. I do not have a number to reach him at but he should be staying at a hotel in about one week.
04-02-99 Thor made it to Davenport Gap (just outside of the Smokey Mountain National Park). He is spending two nights and will be leaving on Sunday morning. He is still hiking with Ironhorse.
04-03-99 I spoke to Thor on the phone today and he is doing great! He is very happy and sounds excited about hiking! As of this date he has hiked appx 230 miles and has completed just over 1/10th of the trail. I will have some pictures to post in about 1 week.
04-07-99 Thor is at Hot Springs North Carolina. He made it in yesterday and spent last night and will spend tonight. He is staying at Sunny Banks Inn (commonly known as Elmers) which is a bed and breakfast. So far he has lost 20 pounds and has traveled appx 270 miles. He plans on reaching Erwin Tennessee on or around April 12th. I will update everyone when I talk to him at that time.
04-13-99 Thor reached Erwin, Tennessee today at around 10:30am eastern time. He is doing fine. He did have some minor problems with his boots seperating, but got them fixed today. I got a chance to speak with "Charlie" today. He is also hiking the entire trail along with his mother. It was great to speak to some people who hike with Thor, it almost made it feel like I was with them! Thor has hiked 345 miles of the trail and expects to be in Damascus, Va on or about the 21st of this month. To listen to Thor's message click here!
04-19-99 Thor is in Hampton, Tennessee (Laurel Fork Gorge on the map). He is staying the night at Kencoral Hostle and is expected to reach Damascus, Virginia on Friday the 23rd. Damascus is the 1/4 way mark for the Appalachian Trail.
