"Mommy!" I heard Hayley shreik. I had just walked in from the club.
"Hayley!" I exclaimed running to the bedroom, where I heard her scream.
"Mommy!" she cried.
"What's wrong honey?" I asked pulling her close.
I knew she wouldnt answer me, she could only say selective words and phrases, but I figured she had a bad dream.
"It's ok. Mommy's here now," I assured her.
"Is everything ok?" Ashley asked coming into the room.
"Yeah, but could you lock the front door and everything?" I asked.
"No problem," she nodded and walked off.
It wasnt long before Hayley was sleeping in my arms.
I looked over at the clock, 4:30. Well, I could get a few hours of sleep in before I have to be up. I laid Hayley down and laid next to her, falling asleep instantly.
"MacKenzie, it's 8," Ashley said coming into my room. I yawned and looked next to me. Hayley was just waking up.
"Morning baby," I said smiling.
I sat up and stretched.
"Bath?" she asked looking up at me.
"Yeah, you can take a bath with Mommy," I told her smiling.
She got up and rushed off to the bathroom, discarding the clothes she had o, her diaper last to go. She waited impatiently in the bathroom for me. I smiled and got up and walked to the bathroom.
After our shower we got dressed and went to the kitchen for breakfast.
"Here," Ashley said setting a bowl of cheerios in front of Hayley.
"I'll eat at work," I told her.
"Ok, be careful," she ordered.
"I always am," I nodded.
"Mommy bye bye?" Hayley asked.
"Yeah, Mommy's going bye bye. I'll be back in a little bit, ok?" I asked.
She looked at me with sad eyes. I walked over to her and gave her a kiss.
"I love you," I told her.
She pointed to herself and smiled.
"You love Mommy?" I giggled.
She nodded and kissed me again.
"Bye bye," I smiled.
"Bye Bye Mommy," she waved. I walked outside and to my truck.
"Hey hon. You've got two young gentlemen that requested your services, right over there," Tammy said pointing to a table. I didnt really look to see who it was, just grabbed two menus and walked over to their table.
"Hi, Im MacKenzie and I'll be you waitress today," I said setting their menus down in front of them.
"Coffee," one said. I finally looked to see who I was serving. It was the two men from yesterday.
"Just coffee?" I asked.
"I'll have coffee too," the blonde said.
I smiled, "It's good you two came back."
"Why's that?" the one with the cute southern accent asked.
"I wanted to thank you for yesterday," I said smiling.
"You deserved it," he told me.
"How so?" I asked confused.
He only chuckled and looked away, I couldnt help but notice his face turn a little pink.
"I'll be back in a moment with your coffee," I said and walked.
I walked to the back and got the two coffee's and walked back.
"Here you are. Should I leave you a few minutes to decide what you're having or is it just drinks again today?" I asked.
"Actually, we're ready to order now," the blonde told me.
"Ok," I nodded taking out my pad and pen.
"What can I get you two gentlemen?" I asked.
"I have to use the restroom," the blonde said and made a beeline to the men's room.
"Um, ok, what can I get you?" I asked looking at the cute one.
"Actually, I wanted to know about a date," he said looking up at me.
I smiled, "What about them?"
"Could I take you out sometime?" he asked.
"I dont think so," I smiled. Of course I was flattered, who wouldnt be. This guy was amazing looking and seemed nice enough. But for some "unknown" reason, I have this thing about trusting guys and I dont go out with anyone I dont trust.
"Why not?" he asked.
"Why are you asking?" I challenged him.
"Because you're beautiful and Im very attracted to you," he told me.
I blushed, "Looks can be disceiving."
"Not always," he said.
"You dont know me," I told him.
"I wanna get to know you," he told me.
"That's very flattering, but I dont think so," I told him gently. P> "Ok, that's more than I expected," he laughed.
I couldnt help but feel my heart melt everytime he charmed me with his thick southern accent.
"So, what can I get you?" I asked.
"Omelet," he answered.
"And your friend?" I asked.
"Same," he answered.
"I'll return soon with your food," I told him and walked off.
"He's cute," Tammy whispered to me.
"Yeah," I mumbled.
When I returned with their food, I set their check down.
"Pay at the front," I told them.
"More coffee?" I asked the blonde.
"No, Brian?" he asked looking at the other.
Brian, I'll have to remember that.
"No, but I'll have water," he answered looking up at me.
"No problem," I nodded and walked off to get his water.
I set it down when I returned. I started working with other customers and putting myself to work.
After the two left, I went to the table to get my tip and clean up. When I got there, there was a $20 bill sitting on the table. I sighed and looked around, they were no where in sight. I hesitated before I picked it up and put it in my pocket. I started cleaning up, then I saw an unused napkin written on. I squinted at it. It read: Brian 555-4521 (LOL, Leah, sound familiar??)
I smiled and picked it up and put it in my pocket. I finished cleaning the table and finished my day.
"Hayley!" I called walking into the house.
"Mommy!" she squealed, running for me.
"Hey honey, whatcha up to?" I asked.
"Blue," she told me.
"Watching Blue?" I asked. She nodded and walked me to the couch, where Ashley was sitting.
"Hey," she said looking up at me.
"Hey, anything new?" I asked sitting down.
"Well, Hayley is identifying colors, she's really good at it too," Ash told me.
"Where's yellow?" I asked Hayley. She walked over to her book and pointed to the sun.
"Good!" I exclaimed hugging her.
"I got asked out today," I told Ashley.
"Really? What'd you say?" she asked.
"No," I answered.
"Book?" Hayley asked looking up at me.
"Yeah, honey, go get one and Mommy will read to you," I answered.
She ran off to get a book.
"Why?" she asked.
"Because, no man would want to be with me once they know I have a two and a half year old daughter, it's just not going to happen," I answered.
"You never know," she told me.
"I dont even know him anyway," I defended myself.
"Get to know him," she suggested.
"You sound like him,"I laughed.
"Give it a chance," she told me.
"I have too much to worry about with Hayley and everything, I dont need to worry about a man. Whether he's honest, whether he's off with someone else, whether he's going to leave me or not when times get tough," I rambled on.
"Just because Billy left you and wasnt a REAL man towards you, doesnt mean every man will be," she scolded me.
"But, it's hard not to think like that," I shrugged.
"Mommy," Hayley said handing me a book.
"This one?" I asked smiling.
She nodded and crawled into my lap. I opened the book and read to her. She fell asleep within minutes.
"It doesnt take much to get your daughter to go to sleep," Ashley commented.
"Yeah, she's a good girl," I said kissing her forehead.
"Well, Im going to work. Need anything, call," she told me. I walked back to my room and laid Hayley down. Sleep sounded very good right about now...
