"Hi MacKenzie, we havent seen you in awhile," Kevin greeted when he opened the door.
"Hey man," Brian said as he stepped into the house. Hayley shyly hid behind me as I walked inside.
"Hi Kevin," I smiled.
"Hey Hayley," Kevin said kneeling down. Hayley hid her face and giggled.
"Brian!" Nick said running up and jumping on Brian, nearly knocking him down. I laughed at the two. They were like little kids when they got together.
"Hi MacKenzie," Nick said noticing me.
"Hi Nick, how are you?" I asked.
"Good, you?" he asked.
"Pretty good."
"Hey Bri," Howie said walking into the room.
"Hey what's up man?" Brian asked.
"Everyone's in the backyard," Howie told us.
Kevin had finally got Hayley to not be shy with him.
"Do you wanna go out back, Hayley?" Kevin asked. She nodded and held her hand up for Kevin to take. He stood up and took her hand and led her out back.
"Ready to go outside?" Brian asked.
"Yeah," I smiled. Howie and Nick had followed Kevin.
Brian pulled me into his arms and hugged me.
"What's wrong?" he asked.
"Nothing, nothing at all," I said smiling.
"You know what I think is kinda weird?" he asked as we walked out to the patio.
"What's that?" I asked.
"You havent heard anything from Hayley's dad," he replied.
"Yeah, that is kinda weird. I dont know. He stopped by the diner a few times in the past few months, but he never went by the house. Maybe it's finally getting through to him that I dont want him around Hayley. Or maybe he's cleaning himself up. I still cant believe he's married and has another kid. That makes me so mad," I rolled my eyes.
"Why?" Brian asked, looking a little offended.
"Because, he never wanted anything to do with Hayley before and then all of the sudden he shows up, thinking everything would be ok. He can take care of that woman and baby, but couldnt help me out one bit in the past three years, it just makes me mad. I mean, I dont know," I mumbled.
"No, what?" he asked as we sat at a picnic table.
"Well, I didnt expect marriage out of him. I mean I was 17, clueless, and really thought he loved me. Even though he treated me so bad, I figured I deserved it, because that's what he made it out to be. Then I got pregnant and you know what he said to me?" I asked.
"What?"
"Ok, well. Get out," I told him.
"Just like that?" he asked.
"Just like that. He looked me dead in the eyes and told me to get out and he never wanted to see me again and he wanted nothing to do with the baby," I replied.
"Well, maybe this woman has changed the way he thinks and thats why he's trying to get back in touch with Hayley and you. To make it up to you guys for what he did," Brian suggested.
"Every time he would show up at the diner he was either drunk or doped up on drugs, I dont think he grew a heart," I sighed.
"Well, Im here for you and Hayley now," he told me.
I smiled at him and leaned over and pressed my lips to his.
"Come on Brian, play some football!" Nick called from the yard, where the guys were lined up to play football. I suddenly noticed how many people were here. Jeez, who are all these people?
"Mommy!" Hayley said running up to me.
"Hey honey," I smiled.
"Sleepy," she told me, looking up at me.
"You're sleepy?" I asked. She nodded and crawled up into my lap. I rubbed her back as she slowly fell asleep. I think this is the only time she has told me she was sleepy. I smiled as I combed my fingers through her hair.
"Hey MacKenzie," AJ said coming up to me.
"Hi AJ," I said smiling. He sat down across from me.
"How are you?" he asked.
"Good, how about yourself?" I asked.
"Good," he nodded.
"That's good, not playing football today?" I asked looking where the guys were tackling into each other.
"Nah, I dont get into that," he laughed.
"I see," I laughed.
"So how is everything with you and Brian?" he asked.
"Good, he is so sweet," I sighed.
"Aww..." he joked.
"Hey, let's not make fun," I scolded, smiling.
"Yeah, well... we've been recording a lot lately," he told me.
"Oh yeah, Brian was saying it was going pretty good. What do you think?" I asked.
"Yeah, I think so too. You know its gonna be tough when we start promoting, right?" he asked.
"Are you trying to scare me away?" I laughed.
"No, not at all. I think you're the best thing that's happened to Brian. Im just warning you, it gets tough. Im sure though, he'll fly you in to see him every weekend," AJ laughed.
"You think so?" I smiled.
"I wouldnt be shocked if he found a way for you to go on tour with us," AJ commented.
"Hey baby!" Brian said running up to me and kissing me. He was sweating like a pig.
"Eww, Brian, you're all sweaty," I teased, pushing him away.
He looked down at me and pretended to pout.
"Aww, come here you big baby," I laughed. He came to me and kissed me again, softly, then gently opening my lips with his tongue and exploring my mouth.
"Come on Brian! You said you wanted water!" Nick whined.
Brian broke the kiss and looked down at me, into my eyes.
"I didnt really want water," he whispered. I laughed as he ran back to play.
"You two make me sick," AJ laughed as he got up and walked off.
