"Ok! Ok! Can I have everyone's attention?!" Brian shouted standing up. What the hell is he doing?
I sighed and looked up at him. We had put Hayley in Kevin's bed in the house she wouldnt wake up, only differnce is now its like 11:30 at night.
"Sit down!" I heard AJ shout, laughing.
"Boo!" Nick said after AJ. Everyone laughed.
"Now, come on ya'll, I have to do something real important," he said whining. I was confused, what was he doing?
"OK, MacKenzie. I know that three months ago we had our first date and three months ago was the first time I ever talked to you. But, I also know that four months ago, the very first time I layed eyes on you I knew that you were 'The One'. The way you laughed so easily, strange as it may sound, the way you gently turned me down, and the first time I picked you up for our date? You were afraid to fall in love and I couldnt let that be. I needed you and I wasnt about to give up. These past three months have definitly been different, Ive never dated someone with a child, but I loved every second of it. Now that Ive made my speech, I wanted to ask you the most important question I will ever ask," he said looking into my eyes.
I was scared, but excited at the same time. I didnt know what he was going to ask and I definitly didnt know what to expect.
"Now, Im not expecting it to happen soon or anything, just the security of knowing you're mine forever. But, would you honor me with your hand in marriage?"
I jumped out of my chair and into his arms, sobbing as I tightly embraced him.
"Is that a yes?" he whispered.
"Yes!" I shouted.
*AN: Ok, some of you are probably like, 'That would never happen in real life', yeah, well guess what, neither would the chance of actually dating Brian. No, but I wanted to point out, that yes, that actually could happen, (not with Brian, but you get my point), I happen to know someone who barely knew each other when they got married, and they are still married, 10 years later. So, it could happen, thankyouverymuch!*
Everyone around us cheered as Brian and I, hungrily smashed our lips together in a kiss. I had tears coming down my cheeks and everything seemed to be going just right. Just the way I wanted it to be.
"I wish I wouldve done that privately," Brian whispered to me.
"Why?" I asked smiling.
"Because right now all I want to do is make love to you," he said smiling.
"I second that," I laughed.
"Let's go home," he said kissing my lips softly.
"Ok," I nodded.
We stuck around for another ten minutes and I got Hayley and we left the BBQ. As we pulled into driveway, keeping our hands to ourselves was getting difficult. When we got out of the car, we were laughing and then, "MacKenzie!"
I jumped and turned around. Billy was leaning against a tree, it was so dark you couldnt even see him, barely.
"What are you doing here?" I spat.
"MacKenzie, I really need to talk to you," he told me.
"Why?" I asked.
"Because, I really do, please, just listen to me. Im not going to try anything funny. I promise," he actually sounded sincere about it.
"Brian would you mind taking Hayley inside?" I asked.
"No, hurry," he told me.
As Brian walked inside, I looked at Billy.
"What is it?" I asked.
"I wanted to explain to you," he began. "When I met you, you were 17 years old, graduating from high school. You were beautiful and I just thought to myself, 'I have to be with that girl'. Well, I never told you this and I wouldnt tell you this today, if you hadnt met my wife 3 months ago, but I was married at the time. That's why I couldnt be in your life. And staying in the marriage and forgetting about you seemed so much easier than going through a divorce and all that. So, I left you."
"You were married then?" I asked, disgusted.
"Well, yes, but, um, it wasnt until recently, when my wife got pregnant that I realized how much it is to go through and I started to feel guilty, so I tried to come back into your life. I wanted to meet Hayley and everything, you know? I wanted to try and help you, but without my wife knowing. So, I couldnt give you money," he explained some more.
"You were married?" was all I could say.
"I finally told my wife about you and Hayley, after what happened. I didnt even know she was around me when I went after you. I thought she was off getting something to eat, but she wasnt. Um, Im cleaning myself up. I havent drank in 3 months and I havent touched any drugs. But, there's something else," he took a deep breath.
"What?" I murmured.
"I have cancer. I dont want to talk about that, you know, what kind it was or anything, but um, I do want to tell you that the doctors give me about a month to live," he said, looking up at me.
"Oh my G-D!" I exclaimed.
"Now, um, I dont expect you to suddenly feel sorry for me. But, I am begging you. Please let me get to know my little girl before I die," he said, tears falling from his eyes.
"Ok," I nodded. I cant believe this! Cancer!?
"Can I ask you something though?" I asked.
"Sure, what?" he asked.
"How did you know where I was?" I asked.
"Ashley understood and told me. I came here about two hours ago and decided to just wait. I really needed to tell you," he explained.
"Well, um, why dont you come by the diner tomorrow. I'll have Hayley with me. I'll let you guys sit in a booth in the back, where no one will bother you," I told him.
"I cant take her anywhere?" he asked.
"Not quite yet," I sighed.
"Ok, I understand," he nodded.
"Come by about 9:30, you can have my entire shift with her," I told him.
"Thank you," he whispered.
"Good night Billy," I said and turned to walk away. I walked up to the front door and let myself in.
"What was that all about?" Brian asked. I explained everything to him.
"Wow," Brian let out a breath of air.
"Im still mad about him being married, but I have to forgive," I sighed.
"Yeah," Brian nodded.
I looked up at Brian and smiled.
"I love you," Brian whispered.
"I love you too," I smiled. He leaned down and kissed my lips so tenderly.
Slowly he moved me upstairs to our room, where he layed me down and made love to me for the first time as an engaged couple.
