Chapter Two

Nick and I laughed together as we walked out to our cars at the end of the day.

"So, uh, are you doing anything tonight?" he asked shyly.

"No," I smiled.

"Do you wanna maybe hang out or something?" he asked.

"Sure, Id love to. Do you wanna come over to my place for a little bit?" I asked.

"Yeah, that's cool. Where do you live?" he asked.

"Victoria Blvd," I told him.

"Oh, cool, that's close to me," he said.

"Do you wanna follow me?" I asked.

"Yeah, where's your car?" he asked.

"Right here," I laughed.

"Oh, well my Durango's over there, I'll follow you," he told me.

"Ok, cool," I said and got into my car. I turned on my car and put on my seatbelt. I turned up my Jessica Andrews CD and pulled out of the parking space. I fought traffic, Nick right behind me.

I drove the fifteen minutes to my house. When we arrived we drove through the ten foot gates and up the brick driveway. I parked my car, and Nick parked right behind me.

"Hey Ruthie!" I called walked into my house.

"Hey baby! How was school?" our maid asked appearing.

"Good, this is Nick," I introduced.

"Hi Nick, nice to meet you. Im Ruthie, the maid," she smiled.

"Hi, nice to meet you," he smiled shaking her hand.

"Ok, your father wanted me to tell you, tonight at dinner, he has an announcement to make and your brothers will be here too," she told me.

"Oh, ok," I said.

"Come on Nick," I said.

We walked up the stairs and down a long hallway. I opened my French doors and felt the warm breeze from my other French doors that led the way to the balcony.

"This is a beautiful house," Nick breathed looking around my room.

"Thanks. My mother insisted Martha Stewart did the decorating," I rolled my eyes.

I shut the doors from the hallway and threw my bag on my bed.

"Mind if I turn on the radio?" Nick asked walking over to my stereo.

"Not at all, go for it," I said.

He turned on the radio and switched stations.

"Here's the new one from Backstreet Boys. Enjoy ladies," the radio DJ announced.

Suddenly music started and I smiled to the beat. It was cool. Backstreet Boys, I think Ive heard of them before.

"This is a cool song, maybe I'll go get the CD or something," I said, more to myself than to Nick.

"Uh, cool," he said and looked around uncomfortably.

"Hey, Marissa. Im leaving for a game. Just wanted to say bye," my cousin, Nicole said coming into my room.

"Ok, see ya. Good luck," I said.

She didnt leave and I looked up at her.

"What?" I asked, confused.

"You're, you're, Nick," she stuttered.

"Yeah, how do you know him?" I asked confused.

"Oh my G-D!" she exclaimed. Nick smiled, his face turning red.

Nicole lived with us because her mother was an actress who was often away and her father was a loser.

"What?!" I asked.

"Thats Nick Carter," she breathed.

"How'd you know his last name? How do you know him?" I asked frustrated.

"Good-bye Nicole," I shoved her out of the room, something that took quite a bit of energy. She was determined to stare at Nick.

"RUTHIE!" she screamed running downstairs.

"How do you know her?" I asked looking at Nick.

"I dont."

"Im confused."

"I'll explain some other time," he sighed.

"Why not now?" I asked sitting down on my bed.

"You know that Backstreet Boys?" he asked.

I looked at the radio, that had just played one of their songs.

"Yeah, so what?" I asked.

"Im a Backstreet Boy," he said looking down.

"You are?" I asked confused.

"Yeah," he nodded.

"That's cool," I smiled.

"You're not going to freak out or use me are you?" he asked sincerely.

"No, why would I do that?" I asked.

"I dont know. People have a tendency to do that," he shrugged.

"Well, Im not like those people," I smiled.

"That's good," he smiled.
