Chapter Three

"Dinner!" Ruthie called as Nick and I were battling it out on Nintendo 64. We were playing WWF. Of course, I was winning. He didnt want to admit that, but I was.

Nick was so much fun to be around. In the short day that Ive known him, Ive got a slight attraction for him. I love the way he just kids around all the time.

"Come on, do you want to eat over?" I asked jumping up.

"Huh? Oh, sure," he agreed.

"Cool, come on," I told him. He paused the game and we ran downstairs. When we arrived in the dining room, everyone was impatiently waiting for us.

"How was school?" my father asked as I sit down.

"Cool, this is my new friend, Nick," I introduced them.

"Hi," my dad said.

"Nice to meet you," Nick said. Obviously, he was trying to impress him.

"These are my brothers, David, Brandon, Julian," I said pointing to them all.

"Nice to meet you," Nick smiled.

We all talked throughout dinner. Nick got along with my father and brothers good, they talked the whole time.

My father told me he needed to talk to me when Nick left.

So, now I was walking Nick out to his car.

"Thanks for coming over and everything," I smiled.

"I had fun today," he smiled.

"So did I," I blushed.

"Where was your mother tonight?" Nick asked curious.

"Oh, she died," I said looking down.

"Oh, Im sorry. How? I mean, if you dont mind me asking," he said.

"It's ok. She died while giving birth to me," I said.

"Im sorry," he said sympathetically.

"It's not your fault," I smiled.

"Well, I guess I'll see you in school tomorrow," he said climbing into his jeep.

"See ya!" I waved as he drove away.

I walked inside and walked into my dad's office.

"You wanted to talk to me?" I asked. My brothers were all sitting around the room, my father sitting at his desk, looking through some papers.

"What did you want to tell me?" I asked.

"Oh, come in Marissa," he said.

I walked in and sat down across from him.

"Well, Marissa. Do you know a boy named Brad Westland?"

"Yeah."

"Well, sweetie. Ive decided that it would be best if you two thought about getting married."

"Excuse me?!" I asked shocked.

"Yeah," he mumbled.

"What do you mean? Im seventeen years old!" I exclaimed.

"I know. But, it would be best that you guys got married. His father and I decided that when you two graduate, you'll get married and then we can combine businesses and become one of the most powerful firms in the city.

"I dont think so," I declined the offer.

"What do you mean?"

"You heard me. I am not going to marry someone I dont know," I rolled my eyes.

"Well, that's why you two are going to date and get to know each other."

"I cannot believe you are doing this."

"Well, Marissa. It's for the best."

"I dont think so."

"Marissa. We've already decided you two are going to be together. Get over it."

There is no arguing with my dad. This is crazy! I barely talk to Brad. Ive never been on a date with him or anything. He's this stuck up pretty boy, that walks around thinking he's God's gift to women.

"Brad's coming over so you two can talk."

"Dad, why are you doing this?" I asked.

"It's for your future Marissa."
