Chapter Five

"Im sorry AJ," I whispered at we were laying in the dark.

"Its ok baby, but just come to me first before you start snopping around, ok?" he asked.

"Ok," I whispered.

AJ leaned over and pressed his lips to mine.

"I love you so much Marissa," he whispered.

"I love you too," I whispered back.

I fell asleep in AJ's arms, feeling warm and secure. I really want this relationship to work and Im going to try my best to make it work.

*The Next Morning*

"What time are you getting home from work tonight?" AJ asked me as I rushed around the bedroom, trying to get ready for work as quickly as possible.

"I should be home by 5," I answered.

"Great, Im gonna have a surprise for you," he said grinning.

"What?" I asked stopping to smile at him.

"You'll see when you get home," he told me.

"Fine," I pretended to pout.

"You better hurry or you're going to be late," he advised.

"I am!" I said slipping on my shoes quickly. I grabbed my purse and car keys and rushed out of the room, AJ close behind me.

"Kiss," AJ ordered. I stopped, turned around quickly and pressed my lips to AJ's.

"See you tonight," I said when we pulled away from each other.

"By baby," he said.

I rushed to work and made it there with 30 seconds to spare.

"That was a close one," my co-worker Kim chuckled at me.

"Yeah, I know," I laughed.

"Marissa! I wanna see a layout for your pages a.s.a.p!" I heard my boss shout to me from her office.

"Yes, ma'am!" I said and rushed to my office. Working for a huge magazine company sometimes wasn't fun. So many deadlines and coming up with unique ways to do the layout for the page could get irritating.

I sat down at my desk and took a moment to catch my breath. I grabbed the paper and began to make a layout dummy for my section of the magazine.

"Sarah! I need your articles and pictures for my pages!" I called to the girl in the office cube across from my office.

"I got it right here," she said walking over to me. She threw down a disk onto my desk and a stack of pictures for her article on a girl in Oklahoma with some brain disorder.

"Thank you," I said smiling.

"I heard you and AJ were having problems," she whispered. What the hell?

"Excuse me?" I asked looking up at her.

"Yeah, everyone's been talking about it," she said smiling.

"Well, you heard wrong, AJ and I are just fine," I said, a little pissed off.

"Oh, I see," she said and walked off. I glared at her as she made her way back to her seat.

How do these people find out?

"Just then the phone on my desk rang.

"Marissa," I answered.

"Hey baby," AJ greeted.

"Hey," I said holding the phone against my shoulder and ear.

"You busy?" he asked.

"I just got to work AJ," I answered.

"I know," he replied.

"No, not really. Im just doing a layout for the magazine," I told him.

"Sounds like fun. Listen, when you come home tonight, dont get pissed if Im not here," he said.

"Why?" I asked.

"Because I dont want you to get pissed," he answered.

"That's not what I meant. Why aren't you going to be there?" I asked.

"Oh, because Kevin wanted me to help him with some stuff around his house," he answered.

"Ok," I sighed.

"Dont worry, you're still getting your surprise," he laughed.

"Ok," I said smiling.

*That Night*

"AJ?" I called when I walked into the house that night.

"AJ! Honey!" I called again. I walked into the kitchen. The lights were turned off and there were two candles lit on the table, and two places set at the table. I smiled and looked around, but still didnt see AJ anywhere.

"AJ!" I said.

"You like it?" he asked walking into the kitchen.

"Yes," I said wrapping my arms around his neck and leaning in for a kiss.

"Well, let's begin to make tonight special," he whispered into my ears, sending shivers down my spine.

"Let's," I smiled.
