Chapter Five

Ok, so I was going out tonight. I know I shouldnt be with everything I went through today, but hey, maybe it will help me keep my mind off Rob.

Since I wasnt allowed to have really nice clothes, because Rob didnt allow me to have fancy clothes, I was borrowing a short black dress from Carol.

"Maybe I shouldnt be going," I said as Carol was applying my makeup to cover up the bruises and cuts.

"And why not?" Carol asked.

"Maybe because of what Ive been through today," I said.

"Look, Micki. Tonight you're going to do something Rob wouldnt let you do. Have fun. Tomorrow we'll go down to the police department, get a restraining order, go get you a good lawyer, and the only thing that will exist of Rob in your life is a bad memory," Carol told me.

"I cant divorce him," I protested.

"Micki, you cant live with him. Honey, I dont know if you noticed, but he beat you today. No woman deserves that. You're leaving him," she told me.

I wiped away a tear and looked at Carol.

"The first step to forgetting him is not to think of him tonight when you have fun," Carol told me.

"I know," I mumbled.

Just then the doorbell rang. Carol jumped up and rushed to the door and opened it.

"Micki!"Carol called.

I smiled, looked at myself in the mirror and smiled weakly. The bruises were pretty well hidden and I actually told myself I looked good. I walked out into the front room where Nick, his future wife (Im guessing), and Kevin stood before me.

"You look a lot better than this afternoon," Nick observed.

"Thanks," I laughed.

Kevin didnt say a word, just stared at me. I looked at Carol and she was beaming at me. The only thing that motivated me to join the guys was the chance to see Kevin again and apologize for Rob yelling at him.

"Lets go," Nick said and started out the door. I looked at Kevin and smiled.

"You'll ride with me," Kevin said softly.

"Ok," I agreed.

I followed Kevin out and we walked to his car, a blue BMW. He opened the door for me and everything. Rob used to do that for me. I shook the thought out of my head as I climbed into the car.

After 15 minutes of driving, Kevin spoke, "He did that all to you?"

"Yeah," I said softly.

"Because he thought you were cheating on him with me?" he asked.

"Yeah," I said softly.

"I am so sorry!" Kevin pleaded.

"No, no. Its not your fault, really," I promised.

"Yes, it is," he argued.

"Look, really. Its not your fault. Rob has a problem," I said.

There, I admited it. Rob had a problem.

When we arrived to the restuarant, we were seated with a group. I soon learned AJ, Howie, Brian, and Nick's future wife's name was Kim. They all seemed like really nice people.

As soon as our dinner was served, I looked over at a table across the restraunt. Rob sat there with the girl he screwed right in front of me. I gasped. I dropped my fork and with a loud crash, the whole table looked at me.

"What's wrong?" Kevin asked, following my gaze.

"Oh my G-D. This isnt happening. I got to go. Im sorry. It was really nice meeting you all, but I got to go," I said gathering my things and standing up.

"Micki, wait," Kevin said getting up.

"Kevin, I am so sorry. I cant let Rob see me with you. I have to go. I dont want you to get hurt," I said looking up at him.

"He wont do anything to me," Kevin said.

"But he will do something to me," I told him, my eyes begging for him to understand.

"Can I call you?" he asked.

"Micki!" I heard a loud, deep male voice yell across the room. I closed my eyes as the tears began to spill down my cheeks.

"Let's go," Kevin said, nudging me to run. We both ran out of the building and ran to his car. When I looked back, Rob was running after us. Kevin started the car and sped out of there. I put my head in my hands and began crying even harder.

"Micki, you shouldnt have come out tonight. Emotionally, you're not ready to handle this," I told myself.
