Chapter Seven

Kevin and I walked into the police station, right when three cops were running out of the station.

"Are you ok miss?" one asked as he ran by.

"That man out there attacked me," I said pointing in the direction that Rob was still kneeling holding his crotch.

By the time we got out of the police station that night, I was tired, very tired. Kevin drove me to Carol's house. Rob was arrested, for domestic abuse and I got my court date for a restraining order. I was actually quite happy that Kevin came with me.

"Thank you so much Kevin," I said softly as he was walking me to the front door.

"It was no problem," he assured me. I smiled.

"So, I guess this is good night," I said looking up at him. I wanted to just give him a huge hug and a kiss thanking him for helping me get the courage to get Rob locked up.

"Yeah, I was wondering. Do you think it would be ok if I called you?" Kevin asked, looking a little shy at the moment.

"I would love if you called me," I told him.

"Cool," he smiled. I pulled a pen out of my purse and searched for a piece of paper.

"Here," he said holding out his hand. I took his hand and the moment we touched I felt electricity shot through my body. I shivered and quickly wrote the numbers down and dropped his hand. That was definitly a feeling I wasnt in the position to be feeling. I couldnt possibly feel something for someone that I barely know. But then again, even after knowing me only a few days, hes helped me "escape" Rob. But, I wont let myself have any feelings for another man, beyond friendship. Not before I get past Rob and everything. The last thing I need is to go into a relationship with someone I hardly know, when Im just beginning to realize I need to get out of a relationship in which I cant trust the man I am "with".

What I need to do is get Rob out of my life, build up my character, become independant, and then I can work on trusting another man again, in a relationship more than just friends.

"Bye Kevin," I said and opened the door and walked in.

"Where have you been?!" Carol bursted out before me like a mad mother at her teenage daughter.

"Calm down Carol. Kevin took me to the police department. Rob was arrested and we set a court date to get a restraining order on Rob," I explained as she followed me to the room I was staying in.

"I'll be going home tomorrow morning. Im going to pack up all things. Im going to take what I want and leave the things I dont. Im going to the bank and taking out some money and Im going to get myself a nice little apartment. Rob has plenty of money to share," I told her as I changed into an oversized tee shirt.

"Honey, Im very proud of you," she said smiling.

"Thanks," I sighed.

"It takes a lot of courage to do what you just did," she told me.

"Well, I cant live like this. I'd end up killing myself," I said honestly.

"Let me tell you something, Micki. I was in an abusive relationship. He beat me like there was no tomorrow and I stuck around. I was with him for 7 years of him beating me senseless. Finally, he beat me so bad, I had to go to the hospital in ICU. Thats when I decided I didnt deserve it and I left him. Got a restraining order, and havent seen or heard from him in years," she told me.

"Are you serious?" I asked.

"Yea, thats why I wouldnt let you put up with that," she told me.

"Thank you Carol," I said hugging her.

The Next Morning~

I looked around the house sad. This was it. I decided to take some furniture, like the couch and kitchen table and chairs. I took a dresser and some end tables and a coffee table for the living room of the apartment I would rent. I closed the door and looked at my sister.

"Thanks Angie," I whispered. She had helped me move everything. We were going to keep everything in her garage until I found a place.

"Your welcome. Now, go see a lawyer," she advised. We got into our vehicles and she drove off. All my belongings in the back of the UHaul she had rented. I drove in the opposite direction, going towards a lawyers office Carol had recommended.

Later~ I walked into the restraunt and looked around. I told Carol I would stop in once I was done at the lawyers office. Finally, I was in the first step of freeing myself from Rob.

"Hey honey. Kevin called today looking for you. He left a number for you, here it is," Carol said handing me a piece of paper. I smiled down at it.

"He called here or your house?" I asked. I had given him Carol's number last night, but he couldve looked up the number of the restraunt in the phone book or something.

"Yeah, and the restraunt," she winked at me. I blushed, knowing exactly what she was thinking.

"Someone's got a crush," Carol teased.

"Maybe, a little one. But, that doesnt mean I'll go out with him," I told her. I followed her back to a back room, where she pulled out a cigarette and began smoking.

"Why not?" Carol asked.

"Because, I cant date someone I cant trust," I answered softly.

"Why cant you trust him? Because of Rob?" she asked.

"Yeah," I whispered.

"Let me tell you something. You cant take what Rob did to you with you forever. If you do, you'll end up lonely. Dont do that. Not every man is like Rob. Kevin may be the one guy that is meant for you," Carol lectured, yet again.

"I barely know the guy," I protested.

"But look what hes helped you with," Carol pointed out.

"Yeah, I know. I just want to get to know him better instead of jumping into things like I did with Rob," I told her.

"That makes sense," she nodded as she inhaled her cigarette.

I smiled and sat down on the counter that was in the room. Just as I got comfortable someone else walked into the room.

"Hey Micki. Someone is here to see you," one of the other waitresses said.

"Who?" I asked.

"Kevin," she answered. I felt my face get hot as I looked at Carol. She was beaming.

I followed the girl out of the room and found Kevin sitting at a booth by himself. I sat down across from him and smiled.

"Hey," I said smiling.

"Hey, how are you today?" he asked.

"Better, thanks," I smiled.

"Did you get everything done that you needed to?" he asked.

"Everything except find a place to live," I laughed.

"Oh, that should be fun," he smiled.

"Oh yeah. Im using Rob's money," I said grinning. Kevin laughed and then grew silent.

"Would you like to come with me?" I asked.

His face lit up and he nodded. We both stood up and walked out of the restuarant, in search of a new residence for me.
