Chapter Eight

I sighed as I drove around the city I had tried so hard to forget. But hey, it was three years ago, and I loved Florida. It was addictive, I guess. No one knew I was coming here. I had bought a house and gotten a job here already, now I just had to see some of my friends I hadn't seen in forever.

I walked slowly up towards Micki's house. Oh boy. I knocked softly and someone swung open the door. I recognized the guy as AJ. I guess him and Micki are doing okay.

"Is Micki here?" I asked.

"No," he answered.

"Oh, okay, I'll come back later," I said.

"Who are you?" AJ asked, looking at me funny.

I frowned, "No one." I turned and walked away. I decided to go to a coffee shop I used to go to, and I sat in my usual booth, sipping my cappuccino.

I heard the little bell ring that meant someone came in and glanced over. I gasped. It was Nick. I slumped in my seat, I didn't want any unwanted memories popping up.

"Hey Mr. Carter, "I heard the waiter named Frank say, "You're booth is taken by a rather attractive lady. Sorry."

"Attractive? I could use one of those these days. I haven't dated in a while," Nick replied.

"Why not?" Frank asked.

"Heartbreak a while ago. Like three years ago," Nick whispered, "Go figure."

"Well, you can sit here," Frank directed, sitting Nick at the table next to my booth. I turned my head the opposite way of him.

"Hi," I heard Nick greet, talking to me.

I flinched, I missed his voice. "Hi," I whispered. I turned around, realizing there was no way to get out of seeing him. "Hey Nick."

Nick sat there, in shock. "Megan?"

I nodded. Nick moved over to my booth, "What are you doing here?"

"Drinking my cappuccino," I replied, sarcastically.

Nick rolled his eyes, "No shit. Why did you leave me?"

"I didn't have a reason to stay," I replied.

"I'm not a good enough reason?" Nick asked.

"You said you weren't sure if you loved me, so, I left," I answered.

"I was upset..."

I sighed, "You didn't even try to call me when I left or anything. And you were the one upset? At least you knew I loved you, I told you, remember? You couldn't even tell me that, or I would have stayed, permanently."

"It's not that easy," Nick whispered.

"It's not that hard, either."

"I love you," Nick said, looking over at me.

I smiled at him and leaned over and gave him a light kiss on the cheek, "I love you, for always."
