Chapter Nine

*That Night At Dinner*

"I knew youd come," Brad said smiling as I sat down at the table, his parents across from us.

"Not by choice," I said, without hesitating.

His mother looked up, shocked at me.

"What?" I snapped at her.

She looked a little taken back. I started to feel bad, but then I thought of why I was doing this.

"Well, what are you going to have tonight?" his father asked looking at me.

I opened the menu, "I dont know."

I looked for the most expensive meal on the menu. I couldnt even pronounce it.

"So, what are you majoring in college?" his mother asked.

"Law," Brad answered for me.

"Oh, how lovely. What college?" she asked.

"Stanford," Brad answered for me, again.

"I can answer my own questions," I hissed.

Brad started to look nervous.

"So, you two will be married at the end of summer?" his father asked.

"No."

"Oh, when were you planning?"

"Never."

"Never?" his mother asked.

"Yeah, that sounds good," I answered, pretending to look over my menu.

"She's rude," I heard his mother whisper to his father.

"Can I take your order?" a waitress asked coming up to the table.

Everyone ordered, then she came to me. I ordered, of course the hard to pronounce, but most expensive meal.

His mother looked down at the menu and saw how much my meal alone was. $104.

"Dont be shy," Brad mumbled. He looked pissed.

Everyone was silent until the food came. I took a bite out of my anonymous meal. It was gooey and a bit crunchy. I gagged and spit the food out on my plate. His mother looked at me in horror.

Just then my cell phone rang.

"Hello?" I answered.

"Hey baby," it was Nick. This was the cue to get up and just leave for an "important" party. We planned it earlier.

"Hey!"

"I bet Brad's loving you huh?"

Oh yeah! A party? Cool! I'll be there. Im leaving now."

I turned off my cell phone and stood up.

"Sorry I gotta run. Party."

I grabbed my bag and walked away from the table. I smiled as I walked out of the restraunt. I took my car keys out of my purse and pressed the button, shutting off my car alarm. I put down the top of my convertible and got in. I turned it on and sped out of the parking lot. That was way too easy.

I drove over to Nick's house. He had given me directions earlier.

"Hey, howd it go?" he asked kissing me.

"Eww, what did you eat?" he asked making a face.

"I dont know and I never want to eat it again," I said pretending to gag.

"You werent supposed to eat it," he smiled.

"Yeah, well. It looked interesting," I shrugged. He put his arms around me and pulled me inside.

"Mom!" he called. A young looking woman appeared.

"What Nick?" she asked.

"This is Marissa," he introduced.

"Hi," I said smiling at her.

"Ive heard so much about you," she grinned.

"All good, I hope," I said smiling at Nick, who was blushing.

"Of course. He's been talking non-stop for the past three days about you," she beamed.

"Aww," I said looking at him again.

"MOM!" he whined.

"You're so cute," I said moving closer to him.

"I know, what can I say?" he said, his face still red.

"Nick, stop being conceited," his mother scolded, but she was smiling.

"Come on Marissa. Let's go to my room," he said sticking his tongue out at his mom. I smiled. He was so cute. And his mom wasnt stuck up. Yea!
