Chapter Seven

"Leah, whats wrong?" I asked, sitting up in bed.

"I cannot stand him Marissa!" she exclaimed, it was obvious she was crying.

"Who?" I asked, trying my best to wake up completely.

"Shawn!" she said.

"Uh oh, what happened?" I asked frowning.

"Uh, I dont know what happened, but I cant stand him!" she told me.

"Nothing happened?" I asked confused.

"Well, we woke up this morning and we just got in this huge fight and it's so stupid, but he's being so stupid and I cant stand it," she sighed.

"Well, how did the fight start?" I asked.

"He wanted to go out to breakfast and I didnt want to go. I dont see the big deal," she told me.

"I dont know either," I shrugged, even though she couldnt see me, because we were on the phone.

"Can me and you do something today?" she asked.

"Of course!" I said.

"Shop?" she asked.

"You know me!" I said smiling.

"Thanks Marissa," she sighed.

"You dont have to thank me," I told her.

"Ok, how about we meet at the mall in an hour?" she asked.

"Sounds good," I agreed. We hung up and I crawled out of bed, now fully awake. Nothing happened last night with Howie and I. We talked, danced, and he brought me home. No kiss, even though I was straining to keep my lips to myself.

I walked to the bathroom and took a shower. When I got out, I put on my American Eagle overalls on and my white tank top. I blow dried my hair and left it down, not doing anything special with it. I noticed my nails needed to be filled, so I decided I would do that while I was at the mall and then treat Leah to a pedicure and manicure. I needed a pedicure too, so it'll be a relaxing day.

I slipped on my sandals and grabbed my bag and car keys and ran downstairs.

"Mom, Im going out with Leah," I told her.

"Ok hon," she smiled.

I walked out the door and got into my BMW Z8. I drove to the mall and met Leah at our usual spot near the food court.

"Hey, feeling better?" I asked.

"Not really," she shrugged.

"Aww, come on. I decided Im going to treat us to a manicure and pedicure," I smiled. She looked up at me and smiled, I knew she was already starting to feel better.

"Thanks," she said.

"Anything to make you feel better," I grinned. We walked to the nail salon and were automatically worked on. I got my nails filled and got my usual French manicure. Leah did the same. Then we got in our toe nails done, I got pink and she got baby blue.

"Feel better?" I asked as we walked out of the salon.

"Yeah, thanks so much Marissa," she said. I could tell she was feeling better.

"Well, where to?" I asked.

"Gap!" we both said at the same time. We laughed and made our way to our favorite store.

"Clearance!" I announced as we made our way to the clearance rack. Yes, I still raid the clearance rack.

We got tank tops and jeans. I decided on getting a hat and Leah wanted a new belt. When we were finished in there, we made our way through the rest of the mall.

*The end of the day*

"Hey people this is Howie and we have a great show for you tonight. We're going to call Marissa Daniels and see if she wants to talk on the air and we're going to be doing the usual show," then a song came on. Howie was on the radio. I smiled. He was going to call me.

I drove home and walked in my huose. Just as I walked in, the phone was ringing.

"Hello?" I answered.

"Is this Marissa?" Howie asked.

"Yeah," I answered.

"Hey Marissa, mind if I do an interview on the radio?" he asked.

"Are we on the air now?" I asked.

"No, we have to ask permission first," he told me.

"Oh, yeah, it's cool. What do I get out of it?" I asked smiling.

"Lunch tomorrow?" he asked.

"Sounds great. But I have a funny feeling you're just using me for an interview," I teased.

"Marissa," Howie said.

"Yes?" I asked.

"I wouldnt do that," he said.

"Ok, as long as you promise," I said.

"I promise."

"I'll call you back in five, act surprised, kinda, like you werent expecting it, ok?" he asked.

"Ok."

I hung up the phone and carried it upstairs to my room. I have no clue where my parents were. I changed into an oversized tee shirt and layed down in bed, just in time to hear the phone ringing.

"Hello?" I asked.

"Marissa?" it was Howie.

"Yeah."

"Hey this is Howie from Tampa Bay's Best Radio Station."

"Oh, hi!"

"Ive got a few questions for you."

"Ok."

"You dont mind?"

"Not at all."

"Well, we had some fans mail in questions they wanted to ask you, so Im going to read a few and you can answer, ok?"

"That's cool."

"Ok, the first question comes from Leslie, who is 13 and lives in Tampa. She wants to know what you really do in your spare time."

"Ok, um, I hang out with my friends, hang out with fans and their uncles, and do things girls do, get my nails done, shop, get my hair done. Normal stuff."

"Girls and their uncles?"

"Next," I laughed.

"Ok, how do you condition your body in order to do all those dances?"

"Work out, a lot. Stretch, it's hard work, but it's fun."

"And we know you dont have much time, but the last person seems to be an uncle, he writes, 'I really like Marissa Daniels and I was wondering if we could get together again and I was wondering if she was even a little bit interested in me'."

"An uncle wrote that?" I asked smiling.

"It's signed, 'The Uncle'," I could tell he was smiling.

"Well, you can tell this uncle we'll talk later," I said.

"Sounds good," he said smiling.

"How was the tour?" he suddenly asked.

"oh, it was fun. I love performing. The fans were great and I had a lot of fun," I answered.

"When do you begin working on a new album?"

"Um, probably within the next few weeks. There arent any dates set on when I want my next album to come out, but a decision should be made soon."

"You're being nominated for the MTV Music Award Artist of the Year, how do you feel about that?"

"Well, it's exciting, but I think Christina Aguilera will win."

"Well, the best of luck to you."

"Aww, thanks."

"And when can the uncle get ahold of you?"

"Later tonight if he wants."

"Ok, well thank you for talking with us."

"Oh, no problem."

"Bye Marissa."

"Bye."

I hung up and turned on my tv, smiling.

Just then the phone rang, again.

"Hello?"

"Hey." it was Howie.

"Hey, so soon?"

"Yeah," he laughed.

"So lunch tomorrow?" I asked.

"Yeah, but I wanted to know what you think of the uncle?"

"Well, the uncle's a nice guy," I answered smiling.

"Is it possible you and this uncle just date for awhile. You know to get to know each other?" he asked.

"That sounds good," I agreed.

"Really?" he asked.

"Yeah," I smiled.

Inside, I was screaming. I wanted to jump up and down and dance and just scream.

"Well, we'll talk more tomorrow at lunch ok?" he asked.

"Yeah, that sounds good," I agreed.

"I'll pick you up at 11:00."
