Chapter Nine

*Britney*

"Hello?" I answered the phone when Tiffany called.

"Hey girl... guess what I'm doing for you?" Tiffany asked me.

"I'm not up for guessing games." I told her.

"Well," she said sounding mildly disappointed, "then I guess you won't care that you have a date with a Backstreet Boy."

I sat numbly trying to decide if she was serious.

"You're demented." I told her finally. "Go with me... I'll prove to you that they are who I say they are!!"

"Which boy?" I asked going along with the ridiculousness.

"Nick Carter."

'Impressive.' I thought to myself. Tiffany has quite the imagination. I bet she'll drag me to a resturant where we'll have dinner with some posters or something.

But, it was kinda weird that the other girls in our group had been romantically conected to Backstreet Boys so maybe it wasn't so absurd...

"Hello?" I asnwered my phone once again.

"Brit?"

"Josh..."

"Hey babe, look I think we need to talk."

"About?"

"Can I come over?"

"Actually..." I pondered telling him I had a date but decided against it. "I already have plans for tonight."

"with a guy?" He asked sounding jealous.

"I'm actually doing Tiffany a favor."

"Tomorrow then?" He pressed.

Quite intimidated I replied, "sure...tomorrow."

After hanging up I was kind of creeped. Josh had that kind of affect on me, I guess.

*Brian*

"I'm so nervous." I told Nick as we drove to pick up our dates.

"Brian you just met her."

"I know, I know. but I can just feel somethings going to happen."

"Right... so what about Leighanne?"

I rolled my eyes... "what about her?"

"She isn't going to be pleased with you being out with another woman."

I sighed and dropped the subject. "Are you excited to meet Britney?"

"No, I hate blind dates, Bri. I only agreed cos I have nothing else better to do..."

"Try to have fun... okay?"

"Right... you got it."

"Besides if this doesn't work out you have that chick at home on rebound.

"Yeah... no. I think she's got a thing for Howie."

"Really?"

"Really."

"You sound like that bothers you..." I noted.

"Nah... it's Alli. A friend. Nothing more. Never was... never will be."

*Nick*

We pulled up to the house address that Tiffany gave Brian.

He went up and rang the doorbell and I lagged behind. I saw two girls emerge. Niether catching my eye.

"I'm Britney and I don't want to be here anymore than you do." I was amazed by her bluntness. She was cute. Short, blond hair... cute.

"I'm Nick. Nice to meet you." She smiled.

"Sorry. I can usually tell how people are feeling and you don't look like you want to go out."

"It's not that." I sighed and looked up at her. "I was about to tell you! That's funny, I don't even know you and I was about to pour everything that's wrong out to you."

"Right... are you ok?"

I nodded.

"Are you kids ready?" Tiffany shouted.

"I think Nick wants to stay back." Britney said.

Brian glared at me "I didn't say--"

"But," Britney annouced. "I'll stay with him." She smiled.

"Go ahead Bri," I cheered as he shot me a dirty look. As Brian's beemer pulled out of the driveway I smiled at Tiffany. "Thanks."

"anytime, let's raid Tiffany's cupboard and talk."

"Sounds good." I said as I followed her inside.
