Chapter Six

*Three months later*

I walked into the restuarant and sighed, setting my purse on the counter and sitting down at the bar. I had just returned from the YMCA.

"Hey sweetheart," Shawn said smiling, as he wiped down the counters. Shawn had bags under his eyes and a red tint to the white of his eyes, showing his exhaustion.

"Hey," I smiled weakly. I was eight months pregant, with swollen feet and an odd appetiate.

"You ok?" he asked locking the door in the front.

Do I look ok? Im tired, depressed, and want nothing more than for someone to accept me.

"Yeah, Im fine," I answered.

"Why dont you go on to bed?" he asked turning out the lights, the lights from the office were the only thing lighting up the building.

"Are you going to bed?" I asked.

"Yeah," he nodded. I got up and followed him to the office and collapsed on the couch and felt the tears swell my eyes.

"What's wrong angel?" Shawn asked sitting next to me.

"I wish he wanted me," I cried, thinking about AJ. I couldnt keep him out of my mind, as much as I wanted to, it never worked.

"Honey, I know. But, you have to move on. You've got other things to worry about," he said pointing to my stomach.

"I know," I sighed and looked at him.

"Why dont you call him?" he asked.

"I dont know..." I sighed.

Shawn got up and handed me the phone.

I looked up at him and took a deep breath. I dialed the number and patiently waited for someone to answer.

"Hello?" a female voice answered, sounding a lot like AJ's "girlfriend". Yes, I still remember her voice, not that I could forget it if I wanted to.

"Hello?" she asked again.

"Uh, yeah, is Rock there?" I squeaked out.

"Hold on," she said bitterly.

"Who is it?" I heard AJ ask her.

"I dont know," she said.

"Hello?" AJ asked getting on the phone.

"Hi," I mumbled, hoping he wouldnt recognize my voice.

"Melissa?" he asked.

"Uh, yeah," I sighed, not able to lie.

"Are you ok?" he asked, sounding a little worried.

"Yeah," I answered.

"How are you?" he asked, almost whispering.

"Im ok," I answered.

"That's good," he said.

"Is Rock there?" I asked, getting a little impatient.

"Uh, yeah, here he is," he said and Rock got on the phone.

"Hey Melissa," he said getting on the phone.

"Hey Rock," I smiled.

"How are you sweetie?" he asked.

"Good, and you?" I asked.

"Good," he said.

"Is AJ and that girl close?" I asked, after a moment of silence.

"Who? Sarah?" he asked.

"Yeah," I mumbled.

"Um, yeah, real close," he said nervously.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"They're engaged," he told me.

"What?!" I shouted, I was pissed.

"Put AJ back on the phone," I demanded.

There wasnt another word out of Rock, only AJ, "Yeah Melissa?"

"Answer me this, what does she have that I dont?" I asked.

"Huh?" he asked.

"You heard me," I said, fighting the tears.

"Melissa..." he said, stuttering.

"Do you want me to call you when I go into labor?" I whispered, not wanting to hear his answer.

"Yeah," he said softly. I hung up again.

"When I go into labor, you're calling him," I told Shawn and lied down.

*The Next Day*

"Shawn!" I exclaimed.

"Huh?" he asked looking at me. He was behind the counter, talking to a customer.

"I think it's time," I said, tears filling my eyes.

"For what?" he asked.

"Im having contractions!" I yelled.

"Huh? Oh! Oh my G-d!" he said rushing over to me. Ive been having contractions all day, not telling anyone, simply because they only lasted a moment or two, but now they were getting closer.

"Come on, let's get you to a hospital," he said taking my arm.

I grabbed my stomach in pain as another contraction hit me.

"Shit, you're early, I wasnt expecting this," he said grabbing my purse and a bag from the back with some of my clothes in it.

"What's going on?" Tony asked coming out from the back.

"She's gonna have the baby," Shawn said excited.

"He rushed me outside and called a cab. We were rushed to the hospital and in the women's center in record time. I was immediately taken to the back. Shawn, right by my side.

"Do you need anything?" he asked as I layed down on the bed and just laid there, waiting for something important to happen.

It was a few hours before I was ready to deliver. I was holding tight to Shawn's hand, not planning on letting go.

"Call AJ," I ordered Shawn.

"Huh?" he asked looking at me confused.

"Call AJ, right now," I demanded. I let go of Shawn's hand and waited for the doctor to order me to push again.

"Ok, Melissa, one more push hon," my doctor told me.

I grabbed the side of the bed and pushed as hard as I could, until I heard the cry of a baby.

"Relax," she told me.

I took a deep breath of air and leaned back.

"I called him," Shawn said returning and looking at the baby with wide eyes.

"Do you want to cut the umbilical cord?" the doctor asked.

"Huh?" he asked looking down at the baby.

The nurse handed him the scissors and showed him where to cut. I smiled as the nurse took the baby to clean it up.

"You have a beautiful baby girl, with a nice set of lungs," she laughed.

I smiled and felt a tear fall from my eye.

"AJ said congragulations," Shawn whispered.

I ignored him and opened my arms for my beautiful baby girl to be placed in them.

"Do you have a name for the baby?" the nurse asked.

"Marianna," I replied.

"Middle?" she asked.

"No," I replied.
