Chapter Seven

I was looking down at my brand new baby girl, admiring her soft and beautiful features. She definitely looked like AJ. She had dark hair on her head and brown eyes.

"Hey, thats quite the beauty you have there," Tony said walking into the room. Shawn was at my right, admiring Marianna. We both looked up and smiled at Tony.

"Thank you," I smiled at him.

"Um, a man named AJ called for you at the restuarant. He should be calling you here at the hospital," he told me.

I looked at Shawn and frowned.

"I wish he were here," I whispered.

"I know you do, hon," he smiled and kissed my forehead.

"Mind if I hold her?" Tony asked setting down the flowers he had brought for me.

"Not at all," I said handing her up to him. It was the day after I gave birth and I was still exhausted.

"I should call Alana," I told Shawn.

"Call her," he said.

"I think I will. I should stop running from my family," I said.

"Good idea," he smiled at me. I leaned over and grabbed the phone. I dialed the number.

"Hello?" my dad's familiar voice answered.

"Daddy..." I said.

"Melissa?" he asked, confused.

"Yeah, it's me, Dad," I replied.

"Baby! How are you? Where are you?" he asked.

"Im fine and Im in the hospital right now," I told him.

"Why?!" he demanded.

"I had a baby, Dad," I answered.

"What?!" he shouted. I waited for him to calm down.

"Why dont you and the boys and Alana come down and see me. Im in room 334," I suggested.

"We'll be right there," he told me. I hung up the phone and looked at Shawn, "You're about to meet my dad."

He smiled, "Good."

"She is absolutely gorgeous," Tony gushed.

"Thank you so much," I blushed.

"Just like her mother," Shawn smiled at me.

Just then, the phone next to me rang. I looked at Shawn and nodded for him to answer it.

"Hello?" he asked picking up the phone.

"Shawn, who is this?"

"Just a minute."

Shawn handed me the phone and mouthed 'AJ' to me.

I took a deep breath and brought the phone to my ear.

"Yes?" I asked.

"Hello to you too," he said.

"What?" I asked.

"How are you feeling?" he asked.

"Emotionally or physically?" I asked.

"Both."

"Emotionally, I feel like shit, no names put to blame, AJ. Physically, Im fine."

"How's the baby?" he asked, ignoring my emotion statement.

"Fine."

"Boy or girl?"

"Well, if you were here, you'd know that you have a daughter."

"What's her name?"

"Marianna," I answered.

"Melissa, why dont you come back down to Florida?" he asked.

"No, why?" I asked.

"It'll be easier if you're here," he said.

"What do you mean? I hope you didnt expect to be apart of this baby's life," I snapped.

"Melissa, please..." he begged.

"Why dont you go make babie's with you're new fiancee," I hissed.

AJ was silent for a moment.

"Well, are you going to say anything?" I asked, getting frustrated.

"I want to tell you the truth Melissa. Would you let me explain?" he asked.

"Why all of the sudden do you want to explain?" I asked, suspicious.

"This isnt a spur of the moment, Ive wanted to tell you from the beginning. I thought I would be able to deal without you, but I cant, Melissa," he said, his voice sweet and raspy. I nodded the thought of how cute he sounded out of my head and listened.

"It's over AJ," I whispered. I couldnt believe those words came out of my mouth. I didnt want it to be over, I wanted an explanation.

"Huh?" he asked.

You're chance to explain, is over. You've had five months to explain. It means nothing now," I whispered.

"Im not happy Melissa," he said, I could hear his voice cracking, which meant he was about to cry.

"Neither am I. Do you think I wanted the love of my life to reject me and our baby? Sorry it wasnt on the list of my 'To Do' list," I sighed.

"Where are you staying Melissa?" he asked.

"I gotta go AJ," I said, afraid of what he was going to do. He was going to make me completely vulnerable, more than I already was. I couldnt understand what was happening, why all of the sudden he felt the urge to explain why he broke my heart.

"Melissa... I really want to explain," he said.

"Bye," I said and hung up the phone.

"Well, hon, I gotta go," Tony said handing Marianna back to me.

"Oh, ok. Im really glad you stopped by," I said smiling.

"Well, I dont think we'll see each other again," he sighed.

"Huh? Why?" I asked, surprised.

"The restaurant closing and everything. I really hate to do this, but you two cant stay in the office anymore," he said.

"Oh my G-d. I didnt even think about that," I said, my eyes watering over.

"Im so sorry," he said sighing.

"It's not your fault," I said.

"I really wish there was something I could do for you," he sighed.

"Melissa..." someone said from the door. I looked up and saw my brother standing in the doorway.

"Ant," I murmured.

"Come give your big brother a hug," he smiled. I got up, handed the baby to Shawn and rushed over to my brother, wrapping my arms tightly around his neck, feeling his arms around my waist, firm, but gentle at the same time. I missed my brother.

"How you feeling?" he asked looking me over.

"Im ok," I shrugged.

"So, who got you knocked up? Him?" he asked looking over at Shawn.

"No, AJ," I mumbled.

"So, where is that prick?"

"Florida."

"Huh?"

"Florida."

"Why isnt he taking care of you?"

"I dont know."

Ant's face flashed with anger, but I tried to ignore it.

"Melissa!" Robert and James exclaimed running into the room, Robert getting to me first and pulling me into a hug, James was next.

"Hi Melissa," I heard my father say. I looked past Anthony and smiled weakly. My dad looked rough, he looked like he hadnt shaved in a few days and his hair was ruffled, probably from the wind, and his clothes were worn. But, he was my Dad. The only man in my life that would always be on my side. I guess you could call me a "Daddy's Girl", but what girl isnt. I loved the way my dad would look at me and Alana, like nothing else in the world mattered.

"Come give me a hug baby," he said smiling. I ran to my father, tears flowing down my cheeks and threw myself into his arms, loving the security of my father's arms.

"What are you doing here?" my father demanded. I pulled away and looked in the direction he was looking at. Right at Shawn.

"What's wrong Daddy?" I asked confused.

"Oh my G-D," Shawn gasped.

"What?" I asked looking from one to the other.

"What?" Anthony asked, just as confused.

"How do you know my daughter?" he asked.

"I met her on the bus up here," he answered.

"What are you still doing here?"he asked.

"Helping out your daughter, why would you care?" he asked.

"What is going on?" I asked.

"You're father seems to be my father as well," Shawn asked, not taking his eyes off my dad.

"What?" I asked raising an eyebrow.

"Remember I came here to find my real father? Right there," he said pointing.

"No way," I said, not believing it.

"Way..." Shawn sighed.

*Two Weeks Later*

"I wanna go back to work," I whined. I was sitting on my old bed, that I had brought over from my father's apartment. We had decided to get an apartment together. There was nothing else we could do. My father bought me a crib for Marianna and a dresser too. Marianna was pretty good about sleeping at night, only getting up a few times. My dad was helping us out a little bit. If it werent for him, we wouldnt even be in an apartment.

"I gotta go to work," Shawn said coming into the bedroom.

"Huh?" I asked.

"Going to work," he repeated.

"Ok," I nodded.

"Marianna was sleeping, thank goodness. I walked over to the phone and dialed my dad's phone number. I knew there was some tension between my brothers and me. The only reason they were being nice to me in the hospital was so my dad wouldnt beat their ass. I knew it and so did everyone else. My dad was beginning to accept Shawn, which was good.

"Hello?" James answered.

"James, is Dad there?" I asked.

"No, bitch," he snapped.

"Huh?" I asked, surprised.

"Call later," he said and hung up.

I sighed and hung up the phone. I decided I wanted to work out, try and get back into shape. I've already lost about 5 pounds and almost have my figure back, which made me so happy.

Shawn and I decided we were going to do different shifts. He could work days and I would work nights. Just to be easier on everyone.

I began my daily workout, until I heard the phone ring. I ran to it and picked it up.

"Hello?"

"Melissa?"

"Yes, who is this?" I asked.

"AJ," he answered.

"What do you want?" I snapped.

"I wanted to let you know that I will be flying into the Bronx in four weeks, to be expecting me," he said.

"Why are you doing this all of the sudden?"I asked confused.

"Like I said before, I need to explain and you deserve and explanation," he told me.

"Why cant you give me one over the phone?"I asked.

"It's not fair to you," he said.

"Ok, whatever AJ," I said.

"Bye."

"Bye."
