Chapter 9
"Do you mind if I'm honest with you real quick?" asked Brian taking another bite of his pizza.
"I'd like you to be honest all the time, but sure, go right ahead!"
"I like you a lot, but there's just something still really mysterious about you. Like you're not telling me something and I just thought maybe you'd like to talk about it."
"I'm not hiding anything from you. I'm just still a little nervous around you, I guess."
"Oh. I understand. I was also wondering...do you wanna go out tonight?"
"Sure! I'd like that!"
"Alright!"
***30 mintues later***
"Thanks for lunch, Bri! It was fun!" I said standing at the front door of my uncle's house with Brian.
"No problem. So I'll call you later. Alright?"
"Yeah! You'd better not forget!"
"I won't! Don't worry!"
"Alright...see you later then Brian!" I said leaning up and lightly pecking him on the lips. I then turned and walked swiftly into the house.
"Kaitlyn, is that you?" yelled Erika from upstairs.
"Yeah, it's me!"
"Come here! I wanna talk to you!"
"I'm coming!" I trudged up the stairs to Erika's room.
"Hey Air! What's up?"
"Call me that again, and I'll kill you!"
"Okay, okay, I'm sorry. Hey Erika! What's up?"
"Nothin! How was your date?"
"Fine...awkward...we're going out again tonight."
"Why was it awkward?"
"I don't know. I feel weird around him. I mean, I like him a lot. Don't get me wrong. It's just...I don't know...different."
"I think you're falling for him."
"I don't know. I'm so nervous when I get around him, but when I touch him all I can think about is how much a like him. It's weird. I guess you probably don't understand!"
"I try!"
"So what'd you do while I was gone?" I asked sitting down next to her on her bed.
"I went over to Brian's with Nick. He is 10 times cooler then I thought he was! We're going out tonight too."
"Thats cool."
Erika and I sat in her room talking for a while when Brian called.
"Hello?" Erika answered the phone.
"Hey, is Kaitlyn there?"
"Yeah. Who is this?"
"Brian."
"Okay...hold on," she said putting the phone down. "It's your boyfriend...should I have him call you back?"
"My boyfriend?"
"Yeah...Brian."
"Shut up and give me the phone!" I said hitting her with a pillow. She handed me the phone and stood up, leaving me alone to talk to him. "Hey Bri! What's up?"
"Nothin much. We had a break, so I thought I'd call and see how you are."
"I'm fine. How are you?"
"Good. I'm really looking forward to tonight."
"Yeah, me too. It'll be fun."
"Yeah. Well hey, I've gotta go, but I'll call you later, alright?"
"Okay. Bye."
"Bye."
I hung up the phone and stood up to go into my room. When I got there, I saw Erika hanging up the phone.
"Nothin like listening to other people's conversations, huh?" She jumped about 3 feet in the air.
"I was...uh...dusting it for you. It was dirty."
"Yeah whatever!" Right then, the doorbell rang. A couple minutes later, my uncle came into my room.
"This just came for you," he said handing me a long box.
"Thanks U.K.!" I said taking the box from him.
"Who's it from?" asked Erika excitedly.
"I don't know...oh wait...there's a card..."
"Well read it!"
"Okay! Jeez girl! It says, 'Kaitlyn, I know we started on a bad foot, but I'd really like to put that behind us. I really like you and I can't wait to see you again tonight. Love, Brian.' Awww! What a sweetie!"
"Well what is it?!"
"I'm opening it! Hold on!" I opened the box and inside laid a single red rose. My heart melted. Under the rose, there was another small box. I opened the box and there was a copy of the Backstreet Boys cd. I laughed a little, then opened the cd case. A note fell out. 'I thought you'd like this since you love our music so much!' it said. I laughed again. Despite my distaste for their music, I promptly put it into my cd player anyway.
"That was so sweet of him!" said Erika smelling the rose he had sent me.
"I know! I can't wait until tonight!"
The rest of the day crawled by very slowly until finally it was about 8:30. Brian would be picking me up in about an hour and a half.
"Well you have to help me decide!!!" I pleaded with Erika. She was being so stubborn! She wouldn't tell me whether to wear the red dress with the black shoes of the blue dress with the black shoes.
"No! Figure it our for yourself! I have to decide what to wear on my date!"
"Come on Erika! You know I'm no good at this kind of stuff! You have to help me! I'd probably end up wearing something from the 60's if it weren't for you! You have to help me!"
"Ugh....fine....wear the short black one with the strappy black shoes...alright? You happy now?"
"Thank you!!!" I said running out of her room to change. The dress she told me to wear came about 5 inches above my knee and was cut down the back into a V shape. I had to admit I looked good in that dress!!! I just hoped Brian thought I did, too. I was in the bathroom fixing my hair and applying the finishing touches to my outfit when the doorbell rang.
"Someone get that!!!" I yelled from the bathroom.
"Fine!" my uncle yelled back. I heard him go to the door and answer it. It was Brian and Nick. "Hey Kaitlyn and Erika!!!!! Your boyfriends are here!" he yelled up the stairs. 'Why did he have to say that?' I thought rolling my eyes. I could hear Brian and Nick laughing downstairs. 'Here goes nothing.' I thought as I walked out of the bathroom. I took a deep breath and started down the stairs.
"Wow! Kaitlyn! You look wonderful!" said Brian. I, being my sappy, stupid self blushed.
"Thanks! So do you!" I said standing by them. Brian did look HOT!!! Oh man! We're not talking 'Yeah...he's cute..." We are talking hot!! H-O-T!!! He had on these really nice black pants and a blue, button-up long-sleeved shirt that brought out his beautiful blue eyes. His hair was perfect and he smelled sooooooo good!!!
"Hey, Nick, AJ, and I decided it would be easier if we all just went together, is that cool?"
"Yeah! That's fine! Where is AJ?"
"Oh, he's in the car with Jenn. I think he's afraid to leave her side for a second. I'll bet right about now they're all over each other," he said looking at his watch. I laughed. Erika came down the stairs then. She was wearing the red dress that I decided not to wear. It looked really good on her. A lot better then it did on me, at least! Nick almost fell over.
"Hey Nicky! Stop drolling!" she said nudging him in the side. He smiled at her.
"Ready?" asked Brian taking my hand. I almost fell over. His hand was so soft and nice.
"Yeah!" I said as we followed Nick and Erika out the door.
