Chapter Three

I groaned as I heard my alarm clock going off next to me.

“I dont want to get up,” I mumbled to myself. A brand new day, yea. It was Friday at least, but it also meant that Josh and all his friends would be walking around bragging about how well they were going to do at tonight's football game. I sighed and got out of bed and went straight to the bathroom and took a shower and got ready. I wore the jersey all the girlfriends wore on the day of the game. It was the opposite colors of what our boyfriends were wearing. I was wearing my blue Gap shorts. I slipped on my brown sandals and looked out of my window to see Josh was getting out of his car to come get me. I grabbed my books and my purse and rushed downstairs, just in time to hear a soft knock on my front door. I opened the door and Josh was standing there and I couldn’t help but smile. He looked so cute in his jersey and jeans.

“Hey baby,” he said smiling. I leaned up and gave him a little kiss on his lips.

“I like the way you look in my jersey,” he whispered in my ear as we walked to his car. I smiled up at him, knowing exactly what he was up to. ‘Maybe I’ll start being nice to her first thing in the morning and then I get a sure lay after we win the game tonight’. I know what goes on his mind.

“Are you still having that party tomorrow night?” he asked.

“Yeah, my mom leaves this afternoon,” I told him.

“Cool,” he smiled and we got into his car and I noted that he didnt open the door for me. I sighed and we were on our way to school.

“Do you want to stop somewhere for breakfast baby?” he asked, looking over at me. We were at a stop light. I looked next us and saw Howie, patiently waiting for the light to change. I smiled and looked back at Josh.

“Um, no, Im not really hungry,” I replied.

“Sure? It’s my treat,” he replied.

“It’s ok, Im fine,” I replied.

We got to school and as usual, all the ‘cool’ football players were gathered around their cars, along with the cheerleaders, who were in uniform.

“Hey Josh, what’s up Casey,” everyone said. We all said our hellos and I sighed as I listened the arrogance everyone possessed.

“Yeah, we’re going to beat them fags over at Fort Worth,” Chad commented, laughing.

“Yeah, man, they suck. If we win tonight, which we will, we’re going to state,” Josh told me.

“Yeah, I know,” I replied.

“Yeah, after we kick their ass on the field, we’ll kick their ass off it too,” Josh laughed. Everyone laughed and I rolled my eyes.

“Im going to go now, Josh,” I told him.

“Ok, baby, I’ll walk with you,” he told me. Oh yeah, he wanted some tonight. Josh hardly ever offers to leave with me in the morning.

“Pussy whipped,” I heard his friends shout at him. He flicked them off and put his arm around my shoulders and we walked. I happened to look over to my left and saw Howie getting out of his car. I wanted to rush up to him and say hello, but I couldnt, with this massive beast clinging to me (La Beast, lol-Leah). I sighed and smiled when I heard the bell ring for first period.

“I have to get some stuff done Josh. I’ll meet you after class, ok?” I asked.

“Yeah, sure honey,” he said. We stopped in front of my classroom and he ran his finger over my lips.

“Bye Josh,” I whispered.

“Bye, I’ll write you ok?” he asked.

“Ok,” I nodded and he leaned down and pressed his lips to mine. I walked into my classroom and sat in my seat. I didnt have anything to do, I just didnt want to be around Josh. I had to wait until fourth period before I saw Howie, so, my day sucks so far.

“Casey,” the teacher said coming up to me.

“Yeah?” I asked.

“Your boyfriend is out there about to fight, go get him please.”

I jumped out of my seat and rushed out of the classroom. In the middle of the hall, Josh was in the face of some kid.

“Josh!” I called running up to him. I didnt recognize the boy, so I grabbed Josh’s arm and he looked down at me.

“Go!” I yelled to the boy. He looked at Josh and walked off, like it was nothing.

“Josh! What are you doing?!” I shouted at him.

“Little fucker was talking shit,” he told me.

“What did he say?” I asked.

“He was talking about you,” Josh mumbled.

“What did he say about me?” I asked, knowing my feelings were about to be hurt.

“He called you a whore,” he replied.

“Josh, it’s the last game of the season. You can’t let him piss you off and you end up not being able to play,” I told him, not wanting to think about being a ‘whore’.

“I know,” he said, calming down.

“Why did he call me a whore?” I asked.

“Because, somehow, those pictures that we saw yesterday in class, well... that wasn’t the only one,” he said, looking down.

“WHAT!” I shouted. By now, everyone was looking at us.

“Well, I’ll tell you this, Josh, you find every single one of those pictures and destroy them, or else, I’ll personally kick Will’s ass for taking it,” I said and walked off.

I walked into class and sighed as I sat down in the desk. Just then the final bell rang and I looked around the classroom and saw not many people were in there. Then, kids starting coming in late from outside in the halls. I sighed and put my head in my hands.

“You look cute today,” someone said from in front of me. I looked up and saw a girl sitting in front of me, I have never seen her before in my life.

“Uh, thanks,” I said, confused.

“Im new. I think it’s cool when girl’s wear their boyfriend’s jersey,” she smiled.

“Thanks,” I nodded.

“My name is Kendra, what’s yours?” she asked.

“Casey,” I replied.

“Nice to meet you Casey,” she said smiling. This girl was gorgeous. I was almost jealous of her. She had long blonde hair with thick curls that made her hair bounce when she moved. She was slim and she wore a cute outfit. A pair of fitting bootleg jeans, a black belt, black rugged boots and a cute white BEBE shirt with black letter across her chest. Her makeup made her look flawless, ok, I was jealous.

I ran my fingers through my dark brown hair and sat back in my seat, feeling self-conscious about the way I looked. I never feel self-conscious.

“Casey, hon, Josh wants to talk to you,” the teacher said walking into the classroom.

“What does he want?!” I said, irritated.

“He just asked if he could talk to you for a minute. Go ahead,” she told me. I got up and walked out of the classroom and was greeted by Josh.

“What?” I asked.

“Please, dont be mad at me,” he said.

“Josh, how would you feel if there were pictures of you having sex going around the school?” I asked, on the verge of tears.

“There are. Im in that picture too,” he pointed out.

“But, you’re considered cool because you have sex, Im considered a whore!” I shouted.

“You’ve only had sex with me though,” he pointed out.

“Thank you Josh. I dont know how I would get through the day without knowing that,” I spat, sarcastically.

“Casey,” he rolled his eyes.

“Josh, people dont know that you’re the only one I’ve had sex with and if they do, they dont care!” I said.

“I’ll get all those pictures,” he mumbled.

“Go to class Josh,” I told him.

He kissed my cheek and walked off. I walked back into class and took my seat.

“Everything ok?” the teacher asked.

“Yeah, thanks,” I nodded. She smiled and started the discussion for the class.

By the time it was fourth period, I was annoyed with everyone. I walked into class and my mood automatically went upward, when I saw Howie.

“Hey Howie,” I sighed, sitting next to him.

“Hey Casey, how’s your day been?” he asked.

“Not good, yours?” I asked.

“Um, not good,” he replied.

“Why?” I asked, frowning.

“I dont know. Hey, someone handed me this picture today in the hall and I kept it, because I thought you should know, if you dont already,” he said handing me the picture that has caused so much shit.

“Rip it,” I said handing it back to him. I cant believe Howie saw that picture. I know I was doing a good job of hiding my embarrassment, but inside I wanted to crawl into a little hole and die. Howie looked at me and then ripped the picture in half and handed it to me. I got up and walked to the garbage can and ripped it to tiny pieces and walked back to my seat.

“Are you ok?” he asked.

“No, this is so humiliating,” I commented.

“It’s ok, dont worry. No one will even be thinking about it Monday,” he assured me.

“Josh doesnt even care!” I exclaimed.

“He doesnt?” Howie asked in disbelief.

“No, he seems to think it makes him look cool,” I sighed.

“Im sorry,” he looked at me with sad eyes.

“Its not your fault,” I smiled and calmed down.

Howie and I talked all period, definitely making my day a lot better.

*At the Football Game*

“GO JOSH!” I yelled jumping up out of my seat and cheering Josh on, who was running down the field. TOUCHDOWN!

Everyone started cheering and whistling.

“Hey Casey,” James Roberts said coming up to me.

“Hey,” I said, smiling at him. He was a friend of Josh’s that I didnt know too well.

“Do you know Kendra?” he asked, a blonde figure appearing from behind him. It was a girl from my first period. She looked even prettier tonight, if possible.

“Yeah, I met her earlier,” I said smiling at Kendra.

I was wearing a tight white tee shirt that was decorated with school spirit and a pair of bootleg Gap jeans and my American Eagle sandals that I lived in. My hair was pulled into a ponytail, Kendra on the other hand decided to steal the attention by wearing a white halter top that showed off her slim stomach and a pair of short jean shorts and a pair of white tennis shoes. I groaned and looked away. Her hair was perfect, of course, a perfect pony-tail, no bumps, perfectly smoothed. I dont know why I was so jealous of this girl, but I was.

“Casey,” I heard. I looked in the direction that I had heard the voice and saw Howie.

“Howie!” I exclaimed, smiling.

He smiled and climbed up the bleachers and sat down next to me.

“Mind if I sit with you. My friends haven’t gotten here yet,” he told me.

“Not at all. How are you?” I asked, sitting down.

“See you later Casey. Hey, do you think you could take Kendra home later?” he asked.

“Why?” I asked.

“Because you live closer to her,” he said.

“Um, yeah, I guess,” I shrugged.

“Thank you so much,” Kendra smiled.

“No problem,” I shrugged. I looked at Howie and sighed.

“What’s wrong?” Howie laughed, glancing at Kendra.

“Nothing,” I mumbled.

“Casey, are you coming to the party tonight?” James asked.

“I dont know, probably,” I replied.

“Kendra, can you come?” James asked.

“Sure,” she smiled.

I rolled my eyes and concentrated on Howie.

“So...”

*After the Game*

“You did so good!” I exclaimed to Josh after he came out of the locker room. ‘Of course’ we won. He smiled and wrapped his arms around me and kissed me.

“Want to go to Chad’s party?” Josh asked.

“Yeah, I dont have a curfew tonight since my mom’s out of town,” I told him.

“Good,” he smiled and took my hand in his.

We had arrived in separate cars because he had to be here earlier than me.

“I have to bring along some girl named Kendra,” I told Josh.

“Why?” he asked.

“Because no one else will,” I replied.

“Kendra who?” he asked, curious.

“I dont know, I think she’s new,” I said.

“Casey,” I heard from a few feet away. I looked over and saw Kendra walking towards me.

“Josh?!” she exclaimed, stopping where she was.

“You know her?” I asked, looking up at Josh.

“Kendra?” he asked. I was getting pissed.

“Oh my G-D!” she exclaimed, wrapping her arms around his neck and holding him close. I felt the anger rising and my face got hot.

“Wow, I havent seen you in forever,” he said, holding just as an intense embrace on her.

“I’ve missed you,” she giggled.

“You too,” he replied. I looked at Josh, to give me an explanation.

“Kendra and I went out a few years ago for awhile,” Josh told me.

“Why’d you break up?” I questioned.

“Because Josh moved,” she said, looking at me. My face dropped.

“Um, Im not feeling too good. Maybe I should just go home,” I said, figuring Josh would try to stop me.

“Why?” Josh asked.

“Let you two catch up or something,” I said, sarcastically.

“Ok, well, maybe I’ll stop by sometime tonight,” Josh replied.

I looked at him and rolled my eyes.

“How am I going to get home?” Kendra asked.

I glared at her.

“I’ll take you home,” Josh offered.

“Thanks Josh!” she smiled and looked up at him, admiring him.

“Yeah, bye,” I said and walked off. As I was getting into my car, I saw Howie getting into his.

“Howie!” I called, turning to walk up to him.

“Hey Casey. What’s up?” he asked.

“Nothing. What are you still doing here?” I asked, curious.

“I was talking to some friends. What about you?” he asked.

“Ugh, waiting for my loser boyfriend,” I mumbled. He raised an eyebrow at me.

“What?” I asked.

“What happened?” he asked, frowning.

“That bitch over there is what happened,” I said looking over at Kendra and Josh getting into his Celica. I groaned.

“Why aren’t you doing anything to stop that?” he asked.

“Because Im tired of it,” I sighed.

“Well, if you want, you can hang out with me tonight,” Howie suggested.

“You dont mind?” I asked, smiling.

“If you don’t mind hanging out with a few friends of mine,” he said smiling.

“No, I dont mind. Thanks Howie,” I said smiling.

“Well, we’re going over to get something to eat, so... you can just follow me over there if you want,” he suggested.

“Great,” I said smiling. I got into my Eclipse and we were off. I followed Howie to the diner and when we walked in, it was jam packed. People were yelling and just having fun, a lot of them went to our school.

“Where’s Josh?” someone asked coming up from behind me, I turned around and was greeted by Rachel, Chad’s girlfriend.

“I don’t know, why don’t you go call his cell phone maybe you could ask him,” I said smiling.

She glared at me, “Yeah, well, you’re practically glued to his hip, I figured you’d know.”

“Well, look at that, he’s not here,” I said looking down at my hip. I rolled my eyes and walked off with Howie in front of me.

Howie sat down at a booth with a group of people I had never seen before.

“Guys, this is Casey. Casey, this is Ryan, Joe, Brent, and Cory,” Howie said pointing to all the guys.

“How’d you manage her?” the guy named Ryan asked.

I blushed and Howie just smiled.

“We have a class together,” Howie shrugged.

“Hey, aren’t you going out with Josh?” the guy, Brent, I think it was asked.

“Huh? Oh, uh, yeah,” I nodded, “Do you know him?”

“He’s in my third period, but I don’t know him personally or anything,” he replied.

“Lucky you,” I smiled.

“I thought you weren’t feeling well,” I heard a voice approach the table. I looked up and saw Josh standing before me. I looked around for Kendra, but didn’t see her anywhere.

“Where’s Kendra?” I asked, glaring.

“Is that why you didn’t want to go to Chad’s party?” he asked.

“Yeah, something like that,” I shrugged.

“Are you jealous?” he chuckled.

I got up and looked him in the eye.

“Don’t flatter yourself Josh,” I spat and walked off.

“Casey!” he called after me.

“What?” I asked, when he grabbed my arm and pulled me to him.

“What is going on with you lately?” he snapped.

“Oh Josh! You look great!” I mocked Kendra.

“You’re jealous,” he laughed.

“Ok, Josh. If you get some kind of sick pleasure out of making your girlfriend jealous, then find a new girlfriend,” I growled.

“What?” he asked, shocked.

“You heard me,” I said, tears filling my eyes, but I quickly blinked them away.

“Casey, you can’t do that,” he whispered, I sensed hurt in his voice.

“And why not?” I asked.

“I love you Casey,” he said, his voice was so soft and I just wanted to tell him I didn’t mean what I said.

“Josh, if you loved me, you wouldn’t treat me like you do,” I said.

“I’ll change baby, just please...” he begged.

“I just need to go home and rest. Call me tomorrow,” I whispered to him.

“Baby, please,” he said as I began to walk back inside to tell Howie where I was going.

“Josh, I just need time to think,” I said and continued walking. I walked up to the table and everyone looked up at me.

“I am really sorry about all of this, really I am,” I began to apologize.

“It’s ok. No big deal,” Brent said. Howie looked up at me, concern written all over his face.

“I think I’m going to go home and rest. It was really nice meeting you guys, and I’m sorry I didn’t get to hang out with you guys more,” I smiled weakly.

“No, it’s ok,” they all assured me.

“I’ll walk you out,” Howie suggested and stood up. I smiled and we walked out to my car.

“I really am sorry Howie. Maybe you could invite your friends to my party tomorrow night. I’d love to get to know them better,” I smiled.

“Well, I’m sure they love you already,” he laughed.

“Well, thanks,” I grinned.

“I’m sorry about Josh,” he whispered.

“No, please don’t apologize for him,” I said. Howie shrugged and looked away.

“Well, I guess I will see you tomorrow. My house at 8,” I said smiling. He nodded.

“Can I have a hug?” I asked smiling. Howie smiled and pulled me into his arms for a warm hug. He felt so gentle, but strong at the same time. I didn’t want him to let go.

“Well, bye,” I said softly when I pulled away.

“Bye,” he waved and then turned to walk back inside.
