Chapter Two-Hell Freezes Over

"Nice to see you again." Chris smiled anxiously.

"I wish I could say the same. Nope, nevermind, I don't." Terri said, her eyes cool.

"Terri!" Danica looked at her friend, shocked. Terri was never this openly hostile to anyone.

"What?" Terri widened her eyes, an innocent expression playing on her face.

"It's okay, Danica. I deserved that. I made an ass out of myself earlier, and I never apologized. I am sorry for what I said, Terri. Please believe me." Chris said, trying to get Terri to look him in the eyes.

"Whatever. Are we staying here all night, or are we doing something else?" Terri turned so her back was to Chris and looked at her friend.

"I guess we could go see a movie. Does that sound good to everyone?" Danica suggested. Chris and Joey both nodded their heads.

"Okay, then, let's go."

The four-some trooped out to the parking lot.

"So, do we want to take one car, or two?" Joe asked, walked towards his car. "I have a two-seater, so unless we all want to go in your car, Danica, we'll have to take two."

"Well, why don't you and I take your car, and Chris and Terri can take ours." Danica suggested, opening the door of Joey's small, beat-up car.

Terri looked at Danica, alarmed, trying to get her to change her mind.

"Good idea. That way after the movie we don't have to worry about coming back here and changing cars. This place will be packed." Chris said.

"Okay, so we meet at the theater?" Joey said, walking around to the other side of his car.

"Sounds good." Chris nodded.

Joe and Danica sped off, leaving Terri and Chris in the semi-darkness.

"Well, I guess we better follow. Wouldn't want to keep them waiting." Chris said.

"Follow me." Terri quickly crossed the parking lot to the waiting '89 Camry that Terri drove. She unlocked the doors and started the car, shifting into gear almost before Chris had a chance to open his door and get in.

"Wow, in a hurry?" Chris asked, slamming his door as Terri roared off.

"The sooner this ride is over with, the better." Terri said through clenched teeth. She was going to kill Danica for this.

"Look, Terri, I already apologized profusely. I say stupid things, everyone does. I don't know why you just can't forgive me." Chris was getting very annoyed by this point with Terri's stubbornness. "And if you can't, well, I guess it's your loss."

Terri slammed on the brakes, skidding to a halt at a red light. She looked over at Chris, who was gripping the dashboard, fear in his eyes. She had to giggle at the sight of a grown man, fearing for his life as she weaved in and out of traffic.

"Terri?" Chris asked meekly.

"What?" Terri's eyes slid sideways to look at her companion.

"You do have a license, don't you?" Chris's voice was nervous.

"Of course. The instructor who I took my driving test with was blind, though. He didn't see me hit the old lady and her dog, so I passed."

Chris laughed in spite of himself, and Terri grinned.

"Must have been the same guy I had. He missed the fact that I hit two cars and knocked over the cones when I attempted to parallel park." He joked back.

Terri sighed. "Look, I'm sorry for being such a bitch. Just, that comment really hit home. My brother's gay, and it's caused a lot of problems in our family."

Chris looked momentarily stunned. "I'm sorry for saying it. It was stupid, I didn't know about your family."

"It's okay. How could you have? All is forgiven. Let's just start over." Terri pulled into a parking spot at the movie theater, narrowly escaping hitting the car parked next to her.

"Remind me to drive next time." Chris said, unsnapping his safety belt getting out of the car. Terri was busy placing the contents of her purse back where they belonged. They had managed to slip out on the drive. She didn't notice Chris walk around to the other side of the car until she heard her door open.

"So, chivalry isn't dead after all?" She asked. Chris smiled and held out his hand to help Terri out of the car. She accepted, and locked the doors behind her. Chris then offered her arm, and Terri took it as they walked into the theater.

"Well, look who it is. Touching each other. And not fighting. I think hell froze over." Danica said as Terri and Chris entered the movie theater.

"We had a nice talk in the car-"

"When I wasn't fearing for my life-"

"And we decided it was easier to be friends than mortal enemies." Terri finished.

"Hey, whatever works for you two." Joe shrugged. "So, what do you want to see? Our choices are Under Siege 2: Dark Territory, Waterworld, Clueless, Nine Months and Casper."

"Well, who wants to see what?" Terri asked. Maybe they could all just agree on a movie….

"Under Siege." Chris voted.

"Nine Months." Danica decided.

"Waterworld," Joe selected.

"And I want to see Casper." Terri said. The other three gave her a weird look. "What? It looks adorable." Terri protested.

“Okay, since we each want to see something different, let's just settle this the way any group of mature adults would. First one to the ticket line wins!" Chris jumped into a ready stance, and was about to sprint off when Joe grabbed him by his shirt collar.

"Not going to happen. I'm not running in these shoes. Nice try though." Terri patted Chris on the head.

"Look, I'm sure we can figure this out. Why don't we just draw straws?" Danica walked over to the concession stand, grabbed four straws from a container and rejoined the group. She handed them to Joe who used his pocket knife to cut one shorter, then handed them back to Danica.

"Now, whoever gets the short straw gets to pick the movie." She said, arranging all the straws so they were even.

"I feel like I'm five again." Terri giggled, as they each picked a straw. She then jumped up and down once, before spinning in circles. "I win! We get to see Casper!" Terri gloated, laughing.

"Now you should really feel like you're five again." Chris joked. Terri stuck out her tongue and waltzed to the ticket line.

The other three glared at her, but reluctantly joined the ticket line. This was going to be a long movie.
