BYFL Official Rules

NOTE: Rules may be changed or added for Summer Season.

NEW RULES:

 1. Players must have shirts (See "Other" Section)

 2. Each team has 3 timeouts each half (See "Other" Section)

 3. QB now has 7 seconds to throw the ball (See "Offense" Section)

 4. Teams only can huddle once every series (See "Offense" Section)

 5. You cannot field a punt. You will start your drive where the ball stops (or goes  out of bounds).

 6. The ball cannot be handed off over the line of scrimmage (must leave QBs hands)

Offense

1)    QB has 7 seconds (counted off by ref) to throw the ball.  If defender blitzes then count stops.

2)    QB can run if defenders blitz.

3)    Any player who receives the ball behind the line of scrimmage cannot cross the line of scrimmage unless defender blitzes.

4)    NO SHOTGUN

5)    One foot inbounds for a completion.

6)    For a first down, the refs must be able to clearly realize that the ball has crossed the 1st down line.

7)    Team can huddle once every series, but for only 5 seconds. Please don't get gay with it though.

8)    All other small penalties result in a 5 yard loss but remain on the same down.

9)   *** When the ball leaves the QB's hands (handed off or thrown behind the line of scrimmage), the other team can blitz without it counting as a blitz. ***

10)  Offense must give defenses a reasonable time to set up.  IF OFFENSE WANTS TO RUN HURRY UP OFFENSE, THEY MUST LET THE DEFENSE KNOW.

11) The ball cannot be handed off over the line of scrimmage (must

       leave QBs hands)

Defense

1)    1 blitz before 3 seconds per set of downs

2)    After 3 seconds (counted by ref), the defense can blitz.  This will not deduct from that defense 1 blitz per set of downs.

3)    Pass interference is called loosely.  If the player was able to catch it then it is not pass interference.  A little bit of contact is allowed.

4)    NO CREAMING PEOPLE.  We are not out here to hurt people; we are out here to have fun so don’t try to hurt people.  Penalties will be given as necessary.

5)    Pass interference results in a  1st  down at the spot of the foul.

6)    *** As for a player ceasing to have forward motion, the ref will call the player with the ball down when the REFEREE FEELS THAT THE PLAYERS FORWARD PROGRESS HAS BEEN STOPPED, but once ref calls it, the play is over. ***

7)    A player is down when either he is on the ground or his knee touches the ground.  NOTE:  If a player dives to catch a ball resulting in him being on the ground with ball , he is down.  The defense doesn’t have to touch him.

8)    Other small penalties will result in a 5 yard penalty.

Other

1)    No kickoffs.  Starting on goalline, there cannot be a safety until the team gets a first down.

2)    The games duration will be four 12 minute quarters. At the end of regulation of each half, the team with the ball will remain with the ball until either a turnover or a touchdown by either team occurs.

3)    No arguing with refs.  Penalties will be admitted appropriately.

4)    On punts, there is no return.  You will start your drive where the ball stops (or goes out of bounds). You CANNOT catch a punted ball.

5)    4 players is the minimum amount of players a team must have.  There will be no letting players from other teams play on that team.  If only 3 players are present, that team forfeits.

6)    No game will be rescheduled for any reason whatsoever.

7)   If there is a tie for a playoff seed, the following tie-breakers will be used:

            1. Head to Head

            2. Conference Record (only if they are in the same conference)

            3. Play against each other in wild card match

8)  Each team has 3 timeouts every half.

9)  Players must play with a shirt on at ALL TIMES. This means bring another shirt if you think that it will get ripped.

Overtime

In case of an overtime, the teams will play a college-like overtime. Each team will have 4 downs to score from the second cone. After each series of overtime the ball will be moved back half a cone length until it reaches midfield. If still tied after 5 series, game will be decided as a draw.
