One thing I learned is how important "tools of the trade" are
to makeup success. Do yourself a favor and invest in a set of GOOD makeup tools and
especially brushes. I don't mean the "dime store" variety, but a set of good
sable brushes. You can get them at any good department store for about $25-40. |

You would not believe the difference it makes in your helping you to
acquire makeup skills. Also if you buy QUALITY when you acquire your tools then you won't
have to buy them again! You'll SAVE money in the long run and also learn the
little
nuances on how to use each (all tools behave just a little differently!) |
Cosmetics
As with makeup tools, you will see a major difference in the quality of your FACE when you
use quality cosmetics. Cheap cosmetics can flake, dry out, fade and be uneven. The
pigment in cheap cosmetics are also not as dense or opaque as their quality counterparts.
Being less dense you need more makeup to achieve a given color or look which sometimes
leads to that "caked on" look. |

Quality makeup lasts longer because you use less (which I think actually makes them
comparably priced to the drug store products). Resist getting those "great
deals" of off-brand eyeshadows that have an oversized compact with 101 colors! (well
actually, go ahead...we all just GOTTA have one of those kits!). I guess it IS a
good way to experiment with color. But once you have found your colors...get the GOOD
STUFF!
The best products can be found at the more up-scale stores at the mall, beauty salons or
at good beauty supply stores. Once you have tried these better products, believe me, you
will NEVER go back to the drug store products.
If you are shy about going up to the counter and asking for makeup for yourself, (which
most of us are at least some time in our life!) then go and ask for a gift for your wife
or girlfriend. Although I suspect most experienced ladies on the makeup counter will
probably know the truth...I have never met one who didn't play the little game very nicely
suggesting "she might like this...or that" etc.!) So what...if you are far
from home and they'll never see you again...just enjoy yourself! |
