The Heng Family
Meet Cliff and Katie. We lost Cliff on February 12, 2002, from a rare form of lung cancer. Before he passed away he traced his ancestors back to the 1800's, originating from Heng Island, Norway. Katie passed away May 9, 2006. |

Heng Island is a triangular island, presently consisting of 4 farms, where
3 are located on the north side and the 4th is on the west side. The island
measures 0.8 miles in the north-south direction and 0.8 miles in the east-west
direction. It is situated in the Hidlefjord, between Stavanger (Norway's 4th
biggest city) and the small town of Tau, Strand township or "kommune"
in Norwegian. The local tourist attraction is the Pulpit
Rock (Prekestolen in Norwegian). Archeological findings show that it has
been populated since the stone-age. The first farm on Heng was probably built
around 200 AD. The name Heng is an old Norse
word meaning "steep". After the Great Plague 1349-50, when two-thirds
of Norway's population was lost, Heng was one of the few farms not to be vacated.

Now, for the "rest" (don't have everybody's recent pictures) of the Heng family:
(From left) - Jimmy (or JJ), Janice, Arnold, William, & Roger. JJ & Sherrel live in Peckatonica, IL; Janice and Jim live in Emmetsburg, Iowa; Arnold & I live in Cylinder, Iowa; Bill & Sue live in Cumming, Iowa; and Roger & Susan live in Idaho Falls, ID. The nieces & nephews are scattered all about, but with the invention of email, their parents' keep everybody up-to-date. |
Jan & her family: Husband, James on the right, Korey behind his father, Katie, and then Kristie. Jim & Jan are proud grand-parents for the first time. Kristie and her husband had a baby boy and they named him Jakob, after his great, great, (maybe another great), grand-father. Jakob was born on Jim's birthday! |
