Below is Glastonbury Tor. It is a natural
hill, it is suposedly either the Isle of Avalon (if the surrounding area
flooded at one time), or the burial site of Merlin and/or King Arthur,
or a way into the underworld/land of faerie. The little building on top
is a ruined chapel to St. Michael. I recently found out that when a church
is dedicated to St. Michael it almost always has been built over a formerly
Pagan site. Apparently St. Michael beat the devil or something and since
most Pagan things to the early (and not so early) Christians were the work
of the devil, well it all makes sense (or as much as this type of thing
makes sense.) In any event a priest was executed up there for reasons I
don't remember, and they tried to build several churches up there but they
were destroyed, one by an earthquake (gee I wonder why ;) so they quit
doing that. Anyway it was pretty awesome.
Glastonbury Tor from the bottom.
Glastonbury Tor from the top! Nicole is sitting in the far left hand
side and Uncle Howard is one of the people standing near the chapel (I
think)
This is the view from the Tor facing east.
This is another view from the Tor facing roughly northwest.
This is Nicole on top of the Tor looking out over the counrtyside of Somerset, she is facing roughly northwest, if you notice this is almost the same as the previous picture except Nicole is in it.
