Henry's first wife was Elizabeth Blackshear. Her first husband, Paul Coalson, started Melrose Plantation. After Henry married Elizabeth, he paid $2,800 in February 1836 to Thomas E. Blackshear, brother of Elizabeth and administrator for Paul Coalson, for the plantation, which consisted of 750 acres (Lots 205, 236, and 245 in the Eighteenth District). He made many improvements to Melrose Plantation after his marriage to Elizabeth. He bought Lot 244 from John M. Curry in 1837 for $300 and in 1839 he bought Lots 206 and 237 for $3,000 from Daniel Kornegay.

In 1850, the census listed Henry, aged 38, farmer with Elisabeth, aged 45, Emily, aged 14, William, aged 11, Ann, aged 7, Thomas, aged 3, and Henry's brother, Littleton, aged 24 along with his wife, Mary, aged 20.

Melrose, the original structure was a log house but in 1857 the plantation consisted of 1500 acres of which 600 acres were in cultivation. Additionally, Henry had a good "Gin House & Screw", outbuildings and a good comfortable dwelling with a variety of fruit trees; peaches, apples, figs and pears and plenty of good water. By 1860 Henry owned 54 slaves who lived in 10 slave houses. His real estate was valued at $10,000 and his personal estate at $25,000. He had 700 improved and 800 unimproved acres of land. The livestock was worth $2,500 and the plantation had a varied and productive group of crops. That year Henry produced 2,000 bushels of corn, 50 bushels of oats, 2,000 pounds of rice, 65 bales of cotton, 300 bushels of peas and beans, 10 bushels of Irish potatoes, and 3,000 bushels of sweet potatoes.

In August 1862 Henry sold Melrose to William R. G. Gignillat for $15, 000. He then bought 875 acres in the Twenty-third District (Lots 27, 28, 54, and the western half of Lot 53) from his former brother-in-law, Thomas E. Blackshear. He named his new plantation Cedar Lawn. Henry sold very little property. In the 1870's he gave his second wife, Artie, a lot in Cairo Georgia that he had acquired. Then in 1876, he gave Artie all of his property in the Twenty-third District except for slightly more than 200 acres which he set aside for his son, Thomas Littleton Wyche. He sold the land to his son in 1879 for $1,000. That same year he gave property to Mary E. Wyche and Paul Wyche, two children of his brother, Littleton Wyche Jr. For $5.00 they received Lot 357, the eastern half of Lot 334, and 10 acres of Lot 333 (in the northeast corner in a triangle), all in the Thirteenth District.
