February 2 General Body Meeting

The meeting began at 8:14 pm.
President Keith Laing explained that Vice-President Natalya Bodrick would not be attending the meeting and that he would inform members of the attendance report from the most recent Officers' Meeting. He then said that for the meeting on January 30, the following officers were present:

When he finished, the committee heads proceeded with their committee reports.
*Commitee Reports: The reports were as follows:
Social: Chairwoman Arian Thomas asked for more volunteers to sign up for the social committee. She said that with Georgia Week being so close, she needed all the help she could get. Members who were interested in helping with ideas for talent show and the panel for the relationship forum were asked to put their names on the sign up sheet. She also informed members the Social Committee held two social events in January: the Ridin' Dirty on 85 Skate Party and the Discussion with Frank Ski.
Community Service: Chairman Eric Hall stated that on February 4, the club will be helping the Howard Chapter of the American Red Cross take donations for tsunami relief at the bottom of Blackburn from 12:30-3:30. He said that the club also donated 20 dollars to tsunami relief. He also said that there will be a community service project on Saturday, February 5 at the Community for Creative Non-Violence. He said the project was open to all members and that those interested should meet at the will meet at the Architecture Building at 9:00 am.
T-Shirt: Chairwoman Tosha Holmes told members the ideas for the T-Shirts this semester. She will be collecting money for the T-shirts on Feb. 10,11,17 and 18 at the bottom of Blackburn. She said the prices for the shirt will be $10 (S-XL), $12 (2X-3X) for paid members and $13 (S-XL) $15 (2X-3X). She said that the designs will be posted on the website and that voting for the design will begin on Wednesday online. She said that if the name tag/member list idea won, the list of members on the back would be paid members as of the day the order for the shirts is submitted. Tosha also stated that she will need volunteers to help work at the table collecting orders and asked anyone willing to help to see her after the meeting.
Welcome to the Mecca: Chairwoman Stephanie Erhueh told members that the detailed planning for the 14th annual Welcome to the Mecca Weekend has begun and thus, she would need more volunteers. Members who want to help were told to put their names on the sign-up sheet. She reminded members that Welcome to the Mecca Weekend will be from April 7-10.
Public Relations: Chairwoman Megan Lymon told members that the PR Committee passed out flyers for the North Carolina Club and Georgia Club Skate Party that was very successful. Also they will have to start promotion ideas for Georgia Week that is rapidly approaching. There will be a meeting on Feb. 7.
Fundraising: Chairwoman LaResha Ross told members that the Fundraising Committee is considering having a Valentine's Fundraiser. They would sell mugs with candy, cards or a bear in it. The mugs can be picked up on the 14th. People who would like to work the table can sign up.
*Upcoming Events:
Georgia Week 2005: President Keith Laing reminded members that the theme for Georgia Week 2005 is "Furthering the Legacy of Remarkable Georgia
Bison." He then gave members the date sfor Georgia Week, which are Feb.27-March 5. He officially announced the events for this year's Georgia Week, which can be found here.
Spirit Day: President Keith Laing reminded members that the first Friday after each General Body Meeting with be a Georgia Spirit Day, including Feb. 5. He said that the point of Spirit Day was to show the campus how large the club is and to show off our various shirts. With that in mind, all members were asked to wear their Georgia Club hoodies, t-shirts or any other Georgia paraphenalia.
Party: President Keith Laing told members of the party that will be on Feb. 20 with the North Carolina Club. It will be on a Sunday, but classes will be cancelled that Monday for President's Day weekend. He said that members would get in at a reduced rate and that more details will be posted later.
*RSVP Housing Points
President Keith Laing said that each current paid member of the club would receive 2 points in the upcoming RSVP Housing Selection System. He once again went over the cut off for being considered active THIS semester. He said that all members who paid $15 before the October General Body Meeting or $20 at any point last semester were still active, as well as any members who paid $10 after the November General Body Meeting. Anyone else would not be considered active and have to pay dues for this semester to be included on the list. He said that members who had questions about their status could see Treasurer Angela Harris. He also said that in order to receive points, members need to submit their ID numbers and began circulating a list. He said members had until February 25 to ensure their active status and submit the necessary information.
*2005 Elections
President Keith Laing explained the procedure for 2005 Georgia Club Elections, which needed to be ratified by the General Body and can be read here. He said that Parliamentarian Edith Tudea-Turboh will be over the elections and the positions that are open are President, Vice-President, Secretary, Recording Secretary, Parliamentarian, and Treasurer. Only paid members are allowed to run for a position and vote. To run for a position members can nominate themselves by send Edith an e-mail with a picture and their campaign statement. Members have until the next meeting, March 9, to nominate themselves. He said at that meeting, candidates will have the opportunity to address the General Body, but the actual election would take place at our April 6 meeting. He reminded members of the Nov. 3 vote to amend the club's constitution to require President and Vice-President candidates, however, after much debate, the General Body voted by a 2/3 majority to overturn that amendment, therefore, there will be no slates in the upcoming elections.
*Announcements
- Social Chairwoman Arian Thomas told members that no one applied for the School Supplies Scholarship Drive.
- President Keith Laing then closed the meeting by reading the Thank You card Charreah Jackson sent to the club after receiving her Get Well cards from the General Body and Executive Board.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 pm and members were invited to remain after to watch the 2004 "Put Yo' Hood Up!!!" State Club Talent.
