The meeting started at 8:10 pm with the introduction of Howard University Student Association (HUSA) Student Organization Director April Hartley. She said if members wanted to start an organization and have any questions then to contact her in the HUSA office. Also, she said if members had any grievances then to stop by the HUSA office room 102.
Next, the committee heads proceeded with their committee reports.
*Commitee Reports: The reports were as follows:
Fundraising: Chairwoman Morgan Scott told members that she will be holding her first meeting for the Fundraising Committee next week and will be sending out an e-mail giving the detail of where and when the meeting will be held.
Social: Chairwoman Arian Thomas was not in attendance, but President Keith Laing explained that the committee spent the month working to organize Peach Date 2004, and told members that more information would be available soon. He also said the committee planned a movie night.
Community Service: Chairman Eric Hall said Circle K will be having a week long community service event and plans on co-sponsoring an event. He also plans to volunteer for the annual walkathon, Walk for the Homeless, later in November. He will send out an e-mail giving details about his next meeting.
T-Shirt: Chairwoman Tosha Holmes told memebers she had two meetings for the T-shirts committee that did not have a great turn out and not that many ideas were submitted. She asked the members if there were any ideas that they would like to submit but there were no suggestions. Tosha said the designs that were submitted can be seen on the website.
Welcome to the Mecca: Chairwoman Stephanie Erhueh was not in attendance; but President Keith Laing spoke on her behalf and explained that this year would mark the 14th annual Welcome to the Mecca Weekend and that planning would begin in a few weeks. He told members that the Weekend is one of the Club's most important activities and said that it was open to all high school juniors and seniors in the metro Atlanta area. Stephanie plans to have a meeting with the freshmen who went on the trip last year.
Public Relations: Chairwoman Megan Lymon said she had a good turn out for her meeting. They did a great job on the board for the Organizational Fair and did a good job passing out flyers for the party.
*Dues
President Keith Laing explained that the club would offer a discounted annual dues package of $15 for members who pay by the end of the general body meeting. He said members can pay their dues either after the meeting by giving their money to Treasurer Angela Harris, who would give them a receipt, or online at the Georgia Club website by midnight. The dues will be $20 for the year after October 6.
He said the privileges of paying dues are free or reduced entrance to Georgia Club events and the ability to participate in the Bison 2 Bison Mentoring Program.
*Upcoming Events:
Movie Night: President Keith Laing said the club is planning on putting on a Movie Night in the
Blackburn Center Hilltop Lounge on October 9 at 7 pm.
We will be watching the movie Man on Fire and pizza and drinks will be served.
Peach Date 2004: President Keith Laing explained the concept of the Peach Date blind date game and said that Peach Date 2004 will be the first week in November.Only paid members can be peaches for Peach Date.Members who sign up to be a peach will have their pictures taken for the board.He said more details will be given out via e-mail.
*Bison 2 Bison Mentoring Program
President Keith Laing said that the Atlanta chapter of the HU Alumni Association and the Georgia Club will be continuing the Bison 2 Bison Mentoring Program. He explained that the B2B Program is a two-tiered mentoring program in which freshmen members of the club are paired with upperclassmen members in their course of study, who are then paired with HU Alums working in their chosen professions. He said that the program will be open to all active (paid) members of the club and encouraged everyone to take advantage of the opportunity. He said that members can sign up online.
*Ratification Voting for the Interim Vice-President and Parliamentarian:
President Keith Laing informed members that since the last General Body meeting, Vice-President Shani Greene resigned from her position. He said that he nominated Parliamentarian Natalya Bodrick to be interim Vice-President and he also nominated Edith Tudea-Torboh to take her place as interim Parliamentarian. He then told the members the reasons why he nominated the candidates. The voting took place after the meeting was adjorned and by a unanimous vote Natalya Bodrick became the Vice-President and Edith Tudea-Torboh became the Parliamentarian for the remainder of the terms they were assuming.
*Shirts
T-Shirt Committee Chairwoman Tosha Homes collected all designs from members, and showed them the ones that were previously submitted. She said that voting for the designs will be done online and voting will be conducting until Wednesday, October 13. She said that members will be voting on front and back designs and the color for the shirts and the ink for the writing. She also reminded members that the prices for the hoodies are as follows:
Paid Members: S-XL $22 XXL-up $25
Non-Paid Members: S-XL $25 XXL-up $28
and that payments will be collected from October 14-22. She said that on October 14,15, 21, 22, members of the committee will set up a table at a designated location for collecting orders and that members will be notified via e-mail.
*Absentee Voting
Member Tunicia Walker said that the last day to register was on Monday October 4, but reminded members that it is not too late to turn in absentee ballots. The ballots need to be postmarked two weeks before the election.
